The transmission on our 2018 F-150 with Ecoboost had harsh shifting into 3rd gear and had difficulties with delayed shifting from 6-7, 7-8, and 8-9, with some occurrences of the transmission downshifting to 1st gear. Most noticeable when leaving a stopped intersection or merging on with traffic entering the highway. Cars behind do not expect when our vehicle slows down, resulting in close call accidents. Our truck has been to Ford multiple times and they said this is normal. In February 2025, the truck was returned to a Ford dealership. The service department stated our truck will need the transmission replaced for $11,000. I inquired about this being a known issue. They stated yes but Ford corporate has not acknowledged any issues. I contacted Ford corporate, who acknowledged to assist but then said no due to the mileage being greater than 107,000. The truck was moved to an independent repair facility, and they agreed and provided a cost of $9,500. Currently, I am waiting for the truck to be repaired.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 15–20 MPH, the transmission independently downshifted into first gear, the vehicle jerked, and lost automotive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over onto the shoulder and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was confirmed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The vehicle was taken to AAMCO, where the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but declined to provide assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

When in drive at any speed the transmission slips and/or jerks as it's switching gears. It is "sluggish" gaining speed at this time especially when accelerating from a stopped position making it dangerous to enter traffic. You never know if when it's going to happen. We have taken this vehicle several times checking for a recall and told there isn't one and it'll cost us thousands to fix. This started occuring less than 1 year after purchasing.

As is the way with a lot of f150s, the leadframe control module in my automatic transmission failed, causing me to suddenly go into limp mode on [XXX] ; I had no prior warning until the dash went blank and the wrench symbol appeared. I was able to get the truck completely off the roadway and had to wait for a tow. As it was later in the afternoon I had the truck towed to my house and contacted my normal repair facility in the morning. I had the truck towed to the repair facility that day. They diagnosed the leadframe failure, ordered the parts from Ford and I had my truck back within a few days. This part has been a known issue in these F150s - I had the software update "recall" performed on my truck September 2024 and it still happened to me. Our 2018 F-15 with 3.5 ecoboost has experienced known issues with the cam phasers, a loud rattle during startup. Ford service technicians report the problem to be from a pin coming loose on the cam phaser, resulting in the cam phaser slapping. Ford has acknowledged the issue and designed an updated cam phaser but has selectively chosen to replace the defective items only if a truck is under warranty. This said, the updated cam phasers were available after many trucks exceeded their warranty.

My 2013 F-150 suddenly downshifted (without warning) from sixth to first gear at 55 mph on March 21, 2025. My engine was at risk of blowing out because of that incident. Fortunately, no one was tailgating me at the time, also. A "recall repair" was performed at a Ford dealership on June 27, 2019. This vehicle is currently being diagnosed at a local transmission repair shop.

The same problem that is highlighted with the 1.3 million Ford F-150 truck investigation for the 2015 - 2017 models has happened to me. In 2024 my Ford F-150 would switch from 10th to 3rd gear without warning. This has lead to the transmission completely failing. I had to personally replace the transmission myself. I had just went over the warranty mileage. The incident was reported to Ford but nothing was done about it. At the machenic repair shop there were 2 other Ford F-150 that had the same problem.

While in traffic on the highway in St. Louis at 65 mph the transmission shifted from 6th gear to 2nd gear causing the vehicle to slow very suddenly. I came close to getting rear ended. Horns honking getting flipped off etcetera. I was not expecting the shift as I was neither accelerating nor decelerating until the transmission down shifted. Engine rpm went from 1200 or so to at least 6500 rpm as the rear tires broke loose and skidded. My own research showed cracking of the wiring and/or loose connections can cause this. Wiring harness replaced inside of the transmission and computervreflashes were required to fix it.

My transmission experienced the same issue that has affected millions of trucks. The transmission started downshifting from 10th to 1st gear while driving. I had it inspected at my local dealer and they informed me that it was a common issue with the clutch drum sleeve. It just cost me $6200.00 dollars to have it fixed. I only had 86,000 miles on the truck. I dont know how thete is not a recall on this, it's dangerous , if I was on the highway this could have caused me to cause and accident either die or get severely injured myself or even other drivers. Please look into this, this issue is beyond ridiculous and dangerous.

- #11650641March 25, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
The weather was heavy rain. The road was a two lane rural roadway with a 35mph speed limit. There were no other vehicles present and there were no obstructions in the roadway. As I slowed approaching a stop sign, the collision warning system activated. Traction control activated. The vehicle began braking. The transmission put itself in Park at ~15 mph. When the vehicle stopped moving it turned itself off. The vehicle came to a stop in the lane it was traveling in at the time it began to malfunction. The vehicle transmission would not come out of park. When I attempted to restart the vehicle it activated the horn until it was turned off again. Safety issue was the vehicle sudden stop and coming to rest in the travelled portion of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to Battlefield Ford in Culpeper VA on the date of the incident ([XXX]) and it was returned to me on [XXX]. I have had the gasket for the oil pan fix two times. It is leaking again and told by ford that it will happen again. It is 1200 to have it fixed plus they have to keep it for a few days to make sure the seal is dry. If you do not check the oil all the time it could be low and lock up. I know other people that have had this problem. It is on the 2.7 Eco boost.

Transmission overheated and started sporadically shifting out of nowhere. Going 70mph on the highway in 10th gear and suddenly downshifted to 3rd gear then back to 8th then to 5th then 1st and back to 8th. Truck jerked all around and took all i had to keep it on the road and pull over in a safe manner. Had an independent mechanic come look at it where i pulled over at. He couldn't find any issues. Took it to a local ford dealer afterwards and had them look it over as well and again, they couldn't find any issues.

While traveling on a local highway in the far left lane, the engine completely died (no engine light came on). I was trying to negotiate traffic while getting to the shoulder of the road, and the transmission began shifting itself into park. I grabbed the shift lever trying to prevent it from going into park; however, it did just as I reached the shoulder of the road. At this point, I had slowed to ~25 MPH, but it still locked the tires up and slid a few feet. After turning the key off, removing it from the truck, and opening the door, I was finally able to restart it and I went straight to my local mechanic. He attached a code reader; however, there were no codes displayed. He stated they probably cleared out when I restarted the truck. This happened a couple of months ago, but my wife has been fussing at me to report it.
