Vehicle experienced sudden engine malfunction including rough idle, hard misfire, and flashing check engine light. Vehicle was diagnosed with a collapsed lifter and internal engine failure. Metallic debris was found in the engine oil, including silver and gold/bronze particles consistent with bearing material. A Chevrolet dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the engine requires complete replacement due to internal mechanical failure. Vehicle is equipped with the 6.2L V8 (L87) engine. The failure occurred without warning and presents a safety concern due to potential loss of propulsion. This vehicle is not currently included in the existing GM 6.2L engine recall, despite exhibiting the same failure characteristics reported in other affected vehicles with the same engine and year that were included in the recall. Vehicle has not been driven since metal contamination was discovered to prevent further damage

I want to complain that my 6.2L V8 engine was “inspected” and they deemed it OK, then proceeded to make a requirement of thicker oil for its life. I was also given a long term warranty on the engine, however it is non-transferable, therefore the re-sale value of the vehicle is damaged beyond normal conditions. The engine is suspect, why else would it need thicker oil? The engine is all over the news with the recall, therefore why would anyone want to purchase my used vehicle based on that press and no further warranty? GM needs to make this right! That 10-year or 150,000 miles means nothing to re-sale value if is not transferable.

I have a 2021 Chevy Suburban with the L87 6.2L V8 engine. At 7k miles, we have lost propulsion, leaving the car undrivable. resulted in the dealer replacing all 16 lifters under a recognized bulletin. I never received extended 6yr 100k mile powertrain warranty as described in the bulletin. Since then, There have been 3 other issues with loss of propulsion, resulting in replacement of fuel pump modulator. belt pulley system, One of the incidents left us without power or control of our vehicle on the interstate, with no where to pull over or get out of the way of oncoming semi trucks. The last incident again left the vehicle undriveable at 84k miles, with the dealer currently reporting that it is a lifter and cam shaft issue. Resulting in a 10k bill. They state that it is not covered under the recall of these engines because it is the top of the engine versus the bottom. Clearly, the engine oil problem noted in the recall has contributed to these issues . and the crankshaft not syncing properly with the lifters.

The vehicle was purchased brand new from the manufacturer. Because the third-row seating was rarely used, it was not immediately apparent that the car was delivered without one of the required seatbelts. Once the issue was discovered, it was promptly reported to the manufacturer. However, the customer service representative refused to address the problem, stating that the warranty period had expired. This is a serious safety hazard. A missing seatbelt poses a significant risk of severe injury or death in the event of an accident, and it requires immediate corrective action.

Since purchasing the car in March 2023, the battery has died 5-7 times. We contacted our dealer and they claimed nothing wrong and the battery was fine. We have contacted them about this issue and there is no fix. They performed an update in June 2025 which was supposed to fix it but it didn’t. The latest it has died is November 25. There was nothing left on for the battery to die. I have 4 children and it’s starting to get very cold outside. I live in a rural area with poor cell reception. I am worried I’ll be stranded somewhere with a new baby and 3 younger children.

While driving a 2023 Chevrolet Suburban (VIN: [XXX] ), my [XXX] son was seated in the second-row center seat and was properly buckled in with the factory shoulder/lap belt. He turned around briefly to grab something from the back of the vehicle, and during that movement the seatbelt fully extended and then locked in the automatic locking mode. The retractor would not release tension afterward. The belt continued tightening around his torso, and no amount of slack could be pulled back out. The belt became so tight that he was unable to breathe comfortably or free himself, and the locking mechanism would not disengage even after the vehicle was stopped and turned off. The seatbelt remained fully cinched and would not retract or loosen under any circumstances. Because the belt created a serious entrapment hazard and my child could not safely be removed, I was forced to cut the seatbelt to free him. This appears to be a dangerous malfunction of the seatbelt retractor/locking system and presents a significant safety risk, especially for children who may shift or turn in their seats during normal use. Onstar, my vehicle's core safety communication system, stopped working without notice, without an alert on the dash. Nothing. I press the onstar button and nothing happens. What if I was in trouble? Didn't have my phone? The issue was not communicated to me through the infotainment system. This seems like a serious issue.

Car initially started stuttering on the high, check engine and traction control lights came on. I immediately went to the nearest Chevy dealership a mile away. Initially I had 20 error codes. The problem was the Left side lifters 4 of 8 stop working. Dealership recommended Replace Left lifters, 2 push rods, valve cove, head gasket. $5000. After starting the work. The technician could not repair the lifters because my camshaft is pitted and the RODS were rotating. Their recommendation is to replaced the whole engine to fully fix the problem. $12000 with 3 yr warranty. My SUV just 100kmiles.

Went into limp mode on 11/6/25, took to the dealership where they found metal shavings in the oil due to a “stuck solenoid ‘A’”. Originally said that I’d need a whole new transmission, decided to do the cheaper easier repair and just replaced the valve train (not my choice) got it back on 11/13/25. On 11/24/25 I was on a very busy highway, at a red light, hit the gas when the light changed and the car didn’t move. Just revved the RPMs, then it suddenly lurched/surged forwards. Took it back to the dealership and they said “it doesn’t have any codes showing”. This is not normal behavior for a 4 year old vehicle with less than 40k miles on it.

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban High Country (VIN: [XXX] ) suffered a sudden and dangerous engine failure while my wife was driving 70 mph on the interstate returning from our child’s sled hockey tournament in Ohio. The vehicle gave no warning lights, alerts, or diagnostic messages before the failure. While driving in the right lane, the vehicle began losing power and making a loud noise. My wife exited the highway and contacted OnStar, who told her the tow would take over an hour and only cover three miles to closest dealer, leaving her stranded in an unsafe area. She attempted to carefully reach a nearby dealership. During this attempt, the vehicle completely shut off and she lost all engine power. The vehicle lost all power making the final turn into the dealership coming to rest in the middle of oncoming traffic of a four lane road. The Suburban would not restart. A tow truck arrived and transported the vehicle to a dealership. When they arrived, the tow driver noticed smoke and a strong burning odor coming from the engine compartment and told her to move away from the vehicle because it could potentially catch fire. The vehicle was left in the lot with the hood open and positioned away from the building for safety. The dealership has determined the engine suffered a catastrophic failure and requires complete replacement. Multiple related components may also be affected. This occurred on a vehicle with only 54,000 miles that was purchased three months earlier. This incident created a serious safety risk for my wife, who was nearly stranded on an interstate and had to maneuver a powerless vehicle across several lanes of traffic. I am reporting this to NHTSA due to the sudden failure at highway speed, lack of warning, and potential fire hazard. I was driving and then the vehicle started running rough. There was no indication or warning lights before this happened. This is a huge safety issue because I could have had a wreck and injured people and my very own family. I took it to a Chevy dealership. They inspected the suburban and number 4 cylinder had a pool of oil in it. And they told me it need a new engine. Which it has the L87 engine that all the GM recalls are on. However, they are telling me mine isn't on the recall. They don't know if GM is going to cover it because it has 111,000 miles and it's out of the power train. It's the same engine they're having trouble with engines failures on. And I believe mine should be under the recall.

I was driving the vehicle and without warning it just stopped shut off and immediately shot an error code that there was a critical issue with the engine and that the oil pressure was low, and the vehicle would not start and was not drivable. It had to be towed to a dealership.

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban with the 5.3L V8 engine has experienced lifter failure twice within less than [20,000 miles]. Both times the vehicle developed a misfire, engine belt like noise and was diagnosed by the Chevrolet dealership as having collapsed AFM/DFM lifters. All oil changes have been done at the dealership using GM-approved oil. The issue appears to be a known problem on 2021–2023 GM vehicles with the 5.3L L84 engine. GM has a technical service bulletin (PIP5776H) regarding lifter collapse, but no permanent fix has been provided. I am concerned this could lead to engine failure or stalling while driving, creating a safety hazard.

The contact owned a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the engine running, the front of the vehicle began to shake violently, with a knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The check engine, traction control, and collision warning lights were illuminated. The contact called an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact later visited the dealer and was informed that the vehicle needed to be brought in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.
