2021-2026 Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator Filiform Corrosion TSB

FCA Caribbean Warranty Bulletin ID-25-11 Rev. Symptoms of Aluminum Filiform Corrosion

Aluminum filiform corrosion typically appears as thread-like filaments growing under the paint surface, often originating from a chip or scratch. Owners may observe flaking or pitting on various aluminum body panels. The bulletin specifically mentions concerns on inner door shells, door hem flanges, hoods, tailgates, and windshield frames.

Diagnosis and Vehicle Digital Imaging (VDI) Pre-Approval

Diagnosing aluminum filiform corrosion involves a visual inspection for flaking or pitting. The process for repair approval often requires Vehicle Digital Imaging (VDI) pre-approval, where dealerships submit photos of the affected areas.

VDI Pre-Approval Requirements:

• VDI pre-approval IS NOT required for outer surface corrosion or for JL/JT door repairs where flaking is present, provided the vehicle is still under active corrosion warranty.
• VDI pre-approval IS required for potential non-cosmetic repairs on inside panels (excluding JL/JT doors), or areas not visible from the exterior when the door/hood/tailgate is closed. This includes blemishes found on the seam of the panel.

For VDI submissions, clear photos of the corrosion and identification of the affected body panel are necessary. If corrosion is on the edge of the outer surface that wraps to the hem, photos of both the outer surface and hem are required for repair. A photo of the VIN placard, showing the VIN, paint code, and paint color, must also be included.

Important Warnings and Owner Information

Owners should be aware of specific conditions and exclusions related to this warranty bulletin:

• Timing: This updated process is effective for repairs opened on or after February 23, 2026. However, the prior decision tree (which permitted JL/JT door replacement instead of repair) remains valid for any repairs already in process and opened on or after August 18, 2025.
• Superseded Bulletins: This bulletin replaces Corrosion Warranty Bulletins ID-22-23, ID-23-03, and ID-23-25. Dealers are instructed to remove these older bulletins from their files.
• Non-Reimbursable Items: Several items are explicitly listed as not reimbursable under this warranty bulletin. These include hazardous material disposal fees, shop supplies, pre and post scans, cleaning/waxing/sanitizing supplies, body shop administrative fees, towing and storage fees, and additional labor/parts not supported by the Collision Service Bulletin.
• Warranty Goodwill Grid: For vehicles where the corrosion warranty has expired but are within the 6th year, a Warranty Goodwill Grid process is available. If a customer has valid documentation of the corrosion concern from before their warranty expired, they may not be charged a participation amount. If no such documentation exists, the customer will be responsible for their portion of the repair cost as outlined by the Goodwill Grid.

Repair Procedures and Labor Operations

The bulletin details various Labor Operation Codes (LOPs) for repairing and replacing panels affected by aluminum filiform corrosion. The decision to repair or replace depends on the extent of the damage, particularly if pitting is found after sanding the affected area.

JL/JT Specific Instructions for Hinges: A redesigned hinge for the Jeep Wrangler (JL) and Jeep Gladiator (JT) vehicles addresses corrosion issues. Due to the new design, hinges must be replaced as a set (upper and lower per component) to ensure visual consistency. Hinges on other doors should not be replaced if no signs of corrosion are found. For hinge corrosion, pictures are required both with the hinge on for repair and showing pitting once the hinge has been removed for replacement.
