Remote Software Update (RSU) Process

1. Check Available RSU Version: Open the System Settings vehicle app and select "Remote Software Upgrade". The current and available software versions will be displayed. If the RSU software version to be installed is 03/2024.40 or higher, proceed with the installation. If the RSU version is lower or not available, the ISTA method (Step 2) must be used.
2. Install Available RSU: If the correct RSU version (03/2024.40 or higher) is available, start the RSU installation in the vehicle and follow the prompted instructions in the Central Information Display. The vehicle will display a message such as "READY TO INSTALL" and "Upgrade 03/2023.90 to 07/2023.14".
3. Verification: After approximately 30 minutes, verify that the RSU installation was successful and that software version 03/2024.40 or higher has been installed.

ISTA Programming Process

If RSU is not downloaded or is lower than version 03/2024.40, the vehicle software must be updated to I-level U006-24-03-540 or higher via ISTA. This requires ISTA 4.46.4x (released April 4, 2024) or higher.

1. Preparation: Connect a BMW-approved battery charger to the vehicle and connect the programming system (ISTA 4).
2. Programming: Determine the measures plan, accept and fully work through it with the control units to be programmed/encoded and enabled.
3. Post-Programming: Follow any rework list, perform a vehicle test, and delete the fault memory if needed. ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.

• Work Pkg #2 (00 76 591): Programming and encoding performed in conjunction with another campaign/repair, where the vehicle is already at the specified Target integration level or higher, and no repair is necessary. Labor Allowance: 1 FRU.
• Work Pkg #3 (00 76 781): Remote Software Update performed (RSU status: Ready to be installed). Labor Allowance: 2 FRU.
• Work Pkg #4 (00 76 074): Programming and encoding the vehicle control units as the main work, including a vehicle test (00 00 006/61 21 528). Labor Allowance: 9 FRU.
• Work Pkg #5 (00 76 075): Programming and encoding performed in conjunction with another campaign/repair as the main work, where the vehicle is already at the specified Target integration level or higher, and no repair is necessary. Labor Allowance: 1 FRU.
• Work Pkg #6 (00 76 169): Remote Software Update performed (RSU status: Ready to be installed) as the main work. Labor Allowance: 3 FRU.

Only one flat rate labor operation code can be used per claim. If control modules fail during reprogramming, consequential repair work (e.g., IRAP Control Unit Recovery) can be claimed. Reference SI B01 01 20 or B01 07 20 for procedures on documenting diagnosis and repair work time.
