2025 Audi Emergency Assist System Activation TSB 2079190/1

Audi has released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 2079190/1, effective September 9, 2025, to address concerns regarding the emergency assist system in certain 2025 models. This bulletin provides guidance for technicians when customers report that the Audi emergency assist activation occurs too early, without cause, or as an unintentional deployment.

The TSB applies to 2025 Audi A5, Q5, A6 e-tron, and Q6 e-tron vehicles equipped with PPE/PPC driver assist systems. It details the diagnostic process for understanding the conditions under which the emergency assist system activates.

Important Warnings

NOTICE: If the software version of the front sensors for driver assist systems -R242- (diagnostic address 00A5) is below SW0772, the system's activation history can only be read out with a suitable SFD (vehicle diagnostic protection) activation. In such cases, technicians must contact the Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for assistance. Failure to do so will prevent proper diagnosis of the emergency assist system's behavior.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may experience the emergency assist system activating unexpectedly. When this occurs, the instrument cluster may display one of the following messages:

• "Inactivity detected." (Figure 1)
• "Adaptive cruise control and a braking intervention are active." (Figure 2)
• "Adaptive cruise control, a braking intervention and lane guidance are active." (Figure 3)

These messages indicate that the system has intervened, potentially leading to confusion or concern for the driver regarding the Audi emergency assist activation.

Diagnostic Procedure Summary

This TSB focuses on diagnosing the conditions leading to Audi emergency assist activation rather than a specific repair. Technicians can use the emergency assist test program in ODIS-S to retrieve the system's activation history. This program is accessible via the following path:

Activation Reasons

The TSB outlines several potential reasons for the emergency assist system to activate:

• Rear-end collision prevention: Triggered when lateral guidance functions (like lane departure warning/lane center guidance) are off, driver inactivity is detected for a certain duration, and there's insufficient distance to a vehicle ahead.
• Lane departure warning: Occurs after several consecutive interventions of the lane departure warning without steering torque during the intervention.
• Adaptive cruise assist: Activates when adaptive cruise assist is active and driver inactivity is detected for a specific duration.
• Lane left: Triggered when lateral guidance functions are off, driver inactivity is detected, and the vehicle leaves its lane without the turn signal being activated.
• Fatigue and distraction warning: Activates if the driver monitoring system detects "Sleep".

Escalation Phases

The emergency assist system can escalate through four phases:

• E1: Involves slight deceleration, a visual warning, and a medium acoustic warning. Vehicle guidance and distance to the vehicle in front are maintained.
• E2: Includes medium deceleration, a visual warning, and a loud acoustic warning. Vehicle guidance and distance to the vehicle in front are maintained, along with multiple weak brake jolts, belt vibration on the driver's side, activated hazard warning lights, and an activated horn (below 31 mph or 50 km/h).
• E3: Features strong deceleration, a visual warning, and a loud acoustic warning. Vehicle guidance and distance to the vehicle in front are maintained, accompanied by medium-strength brake jolts, belt vibration on both driver and passenger sides, activated hazard warning lights, and an activated horn (below 31 mph or 50 km/h).
• E4: The system issues a visual warning, activates hazard warning lights, moves the vehicle to a parking position, activates eCall, and unlocks the doors.

Owners should also note that the sensitivity of the emergency assist can be adjusted, with settings for High (earlier activation), Medium (approximately 10 seconds after driver inactivity is detected), and Low (slightly delayed activation).
