SummaryAutomated Activation of Navigation System During PDI/QC1. INFORMATION Important: The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1, the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system. Note: This VIN-specific NAV enabling code is then also automatically stored in the Repair Kit in the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). The automated INITIAL NAV enabling code request and activation of the navigation system will take no longer than 1 minute. After finishing "Delete Transport Mode," the navigation system in the vehicle will be active without entering the 20-digit INITIAL NAV enabling code manually or in ISTA. If the navigation system is not active and asking for the enabling code, turn off the ignition and wait for the head unit to enter sleep mode (approx. 3 minutes). After that, turn on the ignition again. The head unit will start up and the navigation system is activated. If the INITIAL NAV enabling code for first-time activation of the navigation system is not requested or delivered automatically, it still can be ordered manually through the Parts department and activated in the vehicle by entering the 20-digit enabling code manually.

SummaryDual Mass Flywheel: Diagnosis and Inspection. INFORMATION The following three criteria must to be checked, evaluated and the resulting findings documented on the repair order prior to replacing a dual-mass flywheel as defective: 1. Total rotational angle at no load condition (with applied torque less then 20 Nm) 2. Secondary plate longitudal axial play 3. Friction surface appearance changes due to thermal overload. PROCEDURE Refer to the attached "Dual-mass Flywheel Inspection" document for the complete inspection procedure. The dual-mass flywheel replacement is justified only if one or more of the following criteria are met: 1. The total rotational free-play measured at the flywheel gear ring is: Equal to or greater than 3 tooth gaps on N14/N18-equipped engines; Equal to or greater than 14 tooth gaps on B38/B46/B48-equipped engines. 2. The secondary plate total axial bearing play measured at outside diameter of the flywheel is: Equal to or greater than 3 mm on N14/N18-equipped engines; Equal to or greater than 5 mm on B38/B46/B48-equipped engines. 3. Significant discoloration in the adjoining area outside the friction ring, or a severe ablation/erosion of the friction area, is present. WARRANTY INFORMATION Warranty claims for replacing a Dual Mass Flywheel are subject to denial or debit when it is determined that the diagnostic procedures outlined above were not followed. SummaryService Action: Retrofit of the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Internal corrosion could form in the engine coolant temperature sensor which is integrated into the thermostat housing (not replaceable). This corrosion leads to internal bridging of the contacts, which can cause an inaccurate engine temperature reading. This false reading could lead to difficulty in the engine starting or a "Service Engine Soon" lamp being illuminated.

The yellow "Service Due" warning message lights up in the instrument cluster, even though the brake pad thickness is more than 4.2mm (above the thickness at which the pad sensor intervenes). The calculated remaining service life for the brake pads (front and/or rear axle) from the CBS data does not match the actual brake pad thickness. SummaryN18: Service Engine Soon Lamp (MIL) May Come On at High Altitude. The Service Engine Soon lamp (MIL) is illuminated and engine power output is reduced. This could only occur only in areas high above sea level (greater than 5,000 feet) and more frequently with colder outside temperatures. The following faults will be stored in the DME, and no engine mechanical problems are found. * 2C56 - Charging pressure control, plausibility Pressure too high * 2C58 - Charging pressure control, switch-off: pressure build-up blocked Unfavorable DME software

Summary"N14 and N18 Engine: High-pressure Pump Repair Instruction. INFORMATION The current version of ISTA/D Repair Instruction 13 51 017, ""Removing and installing or replacing high-pressure pump (N14, N18)"" has a procedure error. The current version of the Repair Instruction states to replace the high-pressure supply hose on the N14 engine. The Repair Instruction also states not to replace the high-pressure supply hose on the N18 engine. The N18 portion of the Repair Instruction is incorrect. As an interim solution, follow the procedure outlined below until this portion of the Repair Instruction is corrected. https://www.minitis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/bulletin.aspx?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/159...2/5/2014 Page 2 of 2 Bosch High-pressure Pump (1): All vehicles equipped with the N18 engine and produced from 3/2012 and later When the engine is fitted with a Bosch High-pressure Pump (1), the highpressure supply hose (2) MUST NOT be replaced when making repairs. The remaining portion of the Repair Instruction and tightening torques is correct. Refer to EPC for the applicable part numbers when making repairs."

SummaryN16 and N18 Engine: Engine Ventilation Heating Faults Stored in DME Fault Memory After Programming. After reprogramming the vehicle to integration level R056-11-11-503 (ISTA/P P45.1.3.0) or higher, one of the following fault codes are stored in the DME fault memory: Vehicles with N16 engine: * 2F42 Engine ventilation heating, Control The Service Engine Soon lamp is not illuminated. Vehicles with N18 engine: * 37DE Engine ventilation, heating, triggering: open circuit The Service Engine Soon lamp is illuminated. CAUSE Due to a DME software change, the diagnostic monitoring capability is improved for the engine ventilation heating system. However, a fault will be stored in the fault memory because the engine ventilation heater circuit has a malfunction currently present. One of the following may be the cause: * Loose or defective electrical connection * Missing or defective crankcase ventilation heater relay.
