Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2021 Range Rover, 2022 Range Rover Sport, 2020-2021 Range Rover Velar, Discovery Sport, 2020-2022 Discovery, and Defender vehicles. The seat belt automatic locking retractors may deactivate early, which can prevent the child restraint system from securing properly.
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery, and Range Rover Velar vehicles. The Auto High Beam (AHB) system does not indicate through the instrument cluster when the high beams are illuminated automatically. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
On XXX at approximately 17,900 miles, a tire on my 2020 Range Rover Velar exploded suddenly while my wife was driving on the highway at approximately 50 mph. The blowout displaced the axle. The vehicle was brought to a stop without a collision, and no injuries occurred. The vehicle was towed to Galpin Jaguar Land Rover in [XXX], where the tire was replaced and the axle and wheels were realigned. The vehicle was purchased as a Land Rover Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in April 2024. A separate complaint (XXX) was filed for a Telematics Control Unit failure on this vehicle in August 2026. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The Telematics Control Unit (TCU) short-circuited internally while the vehicle was parked, draining the battery and leaving the vehicle completely immobilized. It would not start and had to be towed to an authorized Land Rover dealer. The dealer's diagnosis (RO 645537, JLR Technical Assistance case TA 4202195) found the TCU offline, the main battery tested good, and fuse RF20 blown. The replacement fuse also blew. Power and ground checks confirmed the TCU was internally shorted. The TCU (part LR091250) was replaced at a cost of $3,041.24. Before the failure, the infotainment system had persistent navigation and Bluetooth faults. Land Rover issued a software over-the-air update for the problem, which repeatedly failed to install. Land Rover advised a manual software update at the dealer, but the TCU failed before that appointment. The battery had also been replaced earlier after a low-battery warning despite low use. Safety concern: an internal module short that drains the battery can disable the vehicle without warning, leaving occupants stranded, and a component shorting internally raises a potential electrical fire risk.

"My 2020 Range Rover Velar (VIN: [XXX], 68,424 miles) has an electronic rotary gear selector showing signs of failure consistent with a widely reported defect in this vehicle line. The shift-by-wire module uses an internal circuit board known for weak solder joints, causing the dial to become stuck and unable to select or exit a gear (fault code P176C-11 in some cases). This is documented across multiple Land Rover/Range Rover models (2013–2023 Range Rover, 2018–2023 Velar, 2017–2023 Discovery). If a vehicle becomes stuck in Drive or Park unexpectedly, it poses a real safety risk, especially since this is a shift-by-wire system with no mechanical backup linkage. No recall currently covers this specific failure mode, despite it being common enough that it supports a thriving specialist repair/rebuild industry. I am filing this complaint to document the pattern for NHTSA's records." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I'm writing to report a serious safety issue with my 2020 Range Rover Velar's power tailgate. While I was inside the cargo area, the tailgate began closing on its own/unexpectedly. On a separate occasion, it closed on my [XXX] son while he was in the cargo area-I had to push him out of the way to prevent him from being crushed. Shortly after these incidents, the tailgate/latch actuator stopped functioning entirely. I took the vehicle to the dealer who quoted approximately $1300 to replace the latch assembly. Given that this malfunction has put my child at risk of serious injury, I'd like to ask: 1. Is there an open Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for tailgate latch/actuator issues on the 2020 Velar? 2. Would Land Rover consider a goodwill or policy adjustment to cover or offset this repair given the severity of the safety failure? 3. Can this incident be logged as a formal safety concern for review given the risk to a minor? The vehicle was purchased from Land Rover-Las Vegas on Roy Horn. I have also filed the complaint with Land Rover Customer Service. Thank you so much. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
