This happened July 8th, 2022. I was 2 hours away from home. I was driving on the highway and the vehicle shut-off. Before the car shut off, I heard a knocking sound. I got the car started, it went a few miles, and shut off again. It did this several times. It never over -heated. The oil light and check engine light came on once after the failure, and abruptly went off. The car did not start again. My son had to push the vehicle off the highway. I did an oil check and it was extremely low. I had my car towed to the local Kia dealership. The mechanic there said my Kia Soul had a rod hanging. He also said I needed a new engine that would cost $6701.01. I was told that someone else had just brought a Kia in with the same problem. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure to alert me of any engine problems like low oil or overheating.

I want you preface I had no indications via lights or sensors prior to incident. Nor was I informed of the recall that involved my vehicle. August 15th 2020 I was on my way to chehalis WA, driving up the back of Stevens pass as I-90 over snoqualmie was detoured that day. As I was driving about 55-60 up the mountain I noticed my car was losing acceleration I attempted to give it more gas and noticed a noise. Like a revving but no speed was happening. Then all the lights lit up on my dash. Engine and temp and oil. My temp gauge needle shot up to overheat and my car abruptly shut off as I was driving on a 3-4 lane highway up the mountain. I was able to pull over to a “shoulder” where I turned to the key to shut off my car. I was kind of in shock and was not sure what to do. I had 2 passengers in my car at the time. I waited a few minutes to turn it over. It started but I had to punch the gas to keep it from stalling and it was choking and barley staying on but I had to move because my shoulder wasn’t wide enough for a small car and we were at risk of being hit by passing cars. I was able to limp the car a little ways up and saw a pull off to a gate that led to one of the summits. There I rolled it and it shut off no longer turning over and it was smoking. There we sat 3 or 4 hrs til my sisters fiancé was able to locate us and take us to our planned destination. I left my car there til a tow truck picked it up later around 9pm.

Purchased used Kia Soul 2017 and extended warranty in October 2020, in Niles, Michigan. Engine failed at 44,000 miles (approx. May 2022) in San Diego, CA. Towed to Kia Dealer, El Cajon, CA. Waited four weeks for new engine to be installed (Purchase of extended warranty covered cost of replaced engine). Drove vehicle for one week and then total engine failure on second engine. Towed to Kia, El Cajon, CA. Dealer provided no explanation other than "engines come wrapped to us, and we don't know if it is good or bad before we put it in the car." Totally unacceptable. Luckily, engine failure happened as it was exiting the freeway (San Diego) and was able to safely get to the curb on both occasions. Because vehicle was needed to drive from San Diego to Michigan (moving), and Dealer has had vehicle since second engine failure, Dealer agreed to buy vehicle, which we agreed on. Purchase 7-14-22. We are no longer the owners of this vehicle, but hope the situation is noted with NHSA. Thank you.

Vehicle is constantly burning oil. I have zero engine leaks, no oil spots on engine. Where is the oil going. I took it to Kia. They said it was a catalytic converter. Oil loss and p040 code are incorrect. Misdiagnosed. Possible pcv problem. Bought from widrick in Watertown NY.

- #11473690July 13, 2022ENGINE, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Speed Control may have misfunctioned. I do not really know. When driving, the car randomly drops down to 5 mph and continues on its own at 5mph. The only way to stop is to turn off the engine. The car is not safe to drive This defect puts me at risk and all the cars following me at risk. This defect has not been independently verified but it is easy to reproduce. Check Engine was on due to problems with a multitude of engine sensors.

Engine keeps burning oil Crazy that Kia wants me to pay $415 for an oil consumption test to prove to them my car burns oil. They should fix the issues with their Kia souls and any other automobile they make. They know it’s an issue but we have to pay out of pocket to get them to consider to fix it. Wish I had never bought a kia, life lesson learned.

On 7-3-2022, I was driving my 2015 Kia Soul on I-5 north with my daughter heading home from a short road trip to San Francisco. We where @ 70mph and started up the Shasta mountain when my check engine light started flashing, and I lost all power, the motor started knocking and smoke started to come from the exhaust. As a semi had to blow his horn and swerved to ovoid hitting us.

- #11473507July 12, 2022FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
My wife has a 2015 Kia Soul that developed a gasoline leak in the engine compartment. The Kia dealer said some of their other models have been recalled due to gas leaks and fires but this model has not. This model has the same engine and obviously has the same issue as the Kia model that was recalled. We were very lucky that her car did not catch fire or explode and that I was able to see the problem after she drove the car a short way. The fuel line was leaking gas where it connects to the high pressure pump on top of the engine and from the hose just behind the engine.

I bought vehicle in January 2022 Engine failed. Kia admits engine failed but denying coverage of replacement, due to previous owner not having a computer update done. Currently at dealership for 2 months. No warning lights came on. Driving on interstate at interstate speeds, car began losing acceleration. Eventually unable to move at all. Engine then began to knock. Also had an oil leak upon inspection.

On July 6, 2022 while in route to Virginia Beach with 4 of my younger siblings for a camping trip, my meticulously maintained 2014 SOUL suddenly lost power and the check engine light began flashing. Unsure what to do I pulled to the side of I-64 and called my father. He instructed me to drive to the nearest exit and call a tow truck, which I did. I had the SOUL towed to the nearest KIA dealership which was Williamsburg Chrysler - Jeep - Dodge - Kia. My parents in the meantime drove from nearly 3 hours away in two vehicles to leave one for us, while they drove back in the other. We drove back again today, July 11th, to pick my SOUL up and get a clearer explanation of what was precisely wrong. It was explained to us that the Knock Sensor Detection System related to a former recall had activated Diagnostic Trouble Code P1326 (as described in the KIA TSB 2002B for 2014-2016 MY Soul (PS) w/Nu 2.0L GDI). To the point, Service Advisor Canon Hughes told me a motor replacement was needed, yet KIA would not cover it because it failed a specific diagnostic test. Note this SOUL has been in our family since its beginning. It was originally owned by my grandmother who bought it new at a KIA dealership in Jacksonville, Florida. It then passed to me upon her death in 2018. I have since regularly serviced the SOUL and have kept a log of regular oil and filter changes. It has proved reliable until its recent sudden malfunction. Disappointed with the lack of concern shown by KIA through its representative dealer, we proceeded to drive the car home after Canon Hughes said it could be driven, which I did with my dad following behind. On the way home we stopped by another KIA dealership closer to home for a second opinion Safford KIA of Fredericksburg. We spoke with Service Director Tony Di Cino. Our disappointment with KIA only increased when Tony refused to perform a second diagnostic test with me agreeing to pay for it... ***See attachment for full account

good day my kia soul consumes excessive oil. I have noticed it since the last three oil changes and when you turn it on you can hear a slight knocking in the engine. I took it to the dealer but they demand a deposit of 300 dollars to check it and they do not guarantee original parts. I think it is unfair that they demand three hundred dollars to check it when my kia soul has 25,600 miles and has a guarantee and I demand that my guarantee be honored and my safety be guaranteed. thanks for your attention
