On XXX, while driving on a public roadway, my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee suddenly lost propulsion without warning. The vehicle stopped moving and refused to accelerate. The dashboard displayed a flashing red “D” and instructed me to shift into park. I genuinely feared for my life because the unexpected failure placed me at risk of a serious collision. This was the second occurrence of the same malfunction. Within the preceding year, the vehicle stopped moving and refused to accelerate in a parking lot, displaying the identical warning. I do not recall the exact date and did not report that earlier incident at the time. The vehicle was brought to the authorized Jeep dealership at [XXX], on the morning of October 1 and has remained there since. The dealership informed me that no diagnostic fault codes were found. On XXX, dealership representatives reported that they had driven approximately 68 miles attempting to reproduce the malfunction without success. They stated that additional driving was necessary. Jeep Customer Care subsequently advised me that regional engineering would not evaluate the vehicle unless the dealership reproduced the failure. The dealership has repeatedly offered to return the vehicle to me, although I have not been provided with a diagnosis or confirmation of corrective action addressing the reported loss of propulsion. On XXX, Jeep Customer Car informed me in writing that Stellantis was declining my repurchase request at this time. She asked whether I intended to pick up the vehicle or leave it at the dealership for further attempts to reproduce the malfunction. My concern is that this recurring, intermittent loss of propulsion remains unexplained and could occur again in traffic, resulting in a serious or fatal collision. I request that NHTSA review this, investigate whether similar failures have been reported in otherJeep Grand Cherokee vehicles, and determine if there is safety defect INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving 45mph along a straight, open highway my vehicle suddenly shifted itself to park and stopped itself abruptly. I was then unable to shift the car out of park or move the brake or gas pedal or turn off the vehicle. This lasted for approximately 15 minutes and the car would not let me open the doors. All the dashboard lights were illuminated and my driver display screen stated if I took my foot off the brake the car would reverse. Eventually after 15 minutes of trying to shift and turn off the car it did shut off.

Upon starting my vehicle, my dashboard began flashing errors. All the indicator lights were lighted up (power steering, engine, collision detection, traction). The mileage began blinking on and off. Both of the light indicators on my side windows (for blindspot detection) were continuously illuminated even though I was parked and no vehicles were next to me. The error messages that were flashing on my dashboard were: Service Electronic Stability Control, Service Power Steering, Active Lane Management Limited, and Blind Spot Alert Unavailable. I have pictures of all of this. Additionally, when I put the vehicle into reverse, another error message displayed but I didn't get a picture of this message. When I drove the vehicle down the road (less than half a mile), it sounded louder as if I was revving the engine but I was not. I pulled off to the side, turned my vehicle off and then back on again, but the same error messages and lights continued to happen. I am being told by the dealership that I am responsible for this electrical issue because my vehicle is out was warranty. This is a leased vehicle and there is 43k miles on my vehicle. I have kept up with all maintenance and shouldn't be responsible for the cost of fixing this issue because it's leased and not my fault. The manufacturer should be responsible for fixing issues with their vehicles.
