Three times now, my steering wheel feels like it’s jerking out of my hands and difficult to turn. It has happened at low speeds while maneuvering in parking lots. I’m afraid it’ll happen at higher speeds as it gets worse.

The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it remained for approximately one month; however, the dealer failed to duplicate the failure. The dealer requested that the contact drive with a mechanic to pinpoint the failure experienced with the vehicle. The mechanic requested to drive the vehicle on the parkway, but the contact declined. The contact returned the rental vehicle and drove the vehicle back to the residence. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance, and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

- #11726640March 24, 2026POWER TRAIN, SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Note: The vehicle is totaled, and GEICO Insurance is in possession. A month ago, we received Brake warnings. We brought the vehicle to a mechanic to get checked and it passed. We did not get the warning again. 2 weeks ago, while turning into our driveway, as we were almost stopped, but still in the turn, the vehicle made a noise similar to the Auto Stop/Start feature. The power brakes and steering stopped working (everything was stiff). The car accelerated, and we hit the corner of our garage (because we did not complete the turn into the driveway). The vehicle then hit a tree where it came to rest. The collision avoidance, didn't kick in. Unsure about the final speed of the vehicle, but it was fast enough to deploy the airbags and total the vehicle. There is a police report with the Closter, NJ Police.

- #11726595March 24, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The infotainment screen in my 2021 Jeep Compass has developed a display failure where the screen is glitching and unusable. The issue persists after restarting the vehicle and appears to be a hardware malfunction. This affects visibility of navigation, backup camera, and vehicle settings, which creates a potential safety concern while driving.

- #11725057March 17, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
On February 18, 2026, while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system activated unexpectedly. There were no vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles present. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop, causing the tires to squeal and creating a hazardous situation. A second incident occurred on March 14, 2026, while traveling approximately 55 mph. Under normal driving conditions with no apparent hazards, the automatic braking system again engaged suddenly and without warning, bringing the vehicle to an unsafe and unexpected deceleration. This malfunction poses a significant safety risk, as it could lead to rear-end collisions or loss of vehicle control, endangering both the driver and other motorists. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership on March 16, 2026, for inspection. Initial diagnostic testing reportedly found no issues. At my request, the dealership retained the vehicle overnight for further evaluation. Upon pickup, I was informed that a software update was performed on the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) module; however, no definitive cause of the malfunction was identified. The dealership also indicated that the manufacturer is aware of similar issues but has not provided a resolution at this time. There were no warning lights, alerts, or prior indications of a malfunction before either incident occurred. The problem has not been resolved and may still be present. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

- #11724770March 16, 2026AIR BAGS
The contact owned a 2025 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH on the expressway, the traffic came to a stop due to a stalled vehicle in the fast lane. The contact slammed on the brakes to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front. When the vehicle behind the contact's vehicle could not stop on time and rear-ended the contact's vehicle, from the impact, the contact's vehicle was pushed into the vehicle in front, where it came to a stop. The driver-side and passenger-side air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing yard, and afterwards, the insurance company towed the vehicle to one of their locations to inspect it and deemed it a total loss. The day after the accident, the contact went to the hospital, where the doctor diagnosed that the contact had sustained four bulging discs due to the accident. The contact was prescribed medication: steroids, anti-inflammatories, and muscle relaxers, and the contact was scheduled for physical therapy. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 27,218.

- #11724485March 15, 2026UNKNOWN OR OTHER, ENGINE, STEERING
This first occurred on 3/10/2026 and then occurred again on 3/15/2026. When driving the coolant temp warning will randomly come on. This causes the car to lock up. After about 30-60 seconds it goes back to normal. This could very dangerous if I were on the interstate that I take every day to work. I am a mechanic, have hooked it up to a computer and there are no codes. I have tried to research it a learned that it is a consistent issue that seems to be common in the Jeep Compass, going back as far as the 2019 model.

We were driving on the highway when the car simply stopped worked. The steering wheel became hard and the gas stopped working while in the middle of the highway. Now the cars is driving but all of the safety lights are on and the safety features are not working. Last week the oil was changed and they reviewed the car and everything was ok, now I need to keep going with my roadtrip in a car I don’t feel safe in, until we can get to a dealership. It’s a car that has 8840 miles on it, less than 6 monte and was taken in to repair the park break 3 times.

- #11719163February 19, 2026EXTERIOR LIGHTING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Vehicle started show MULTIPLE errors on dash from blind spot not working , lane assist not working, AEB need to be checked, rear brake light not working, turn signal not work, lane assist not working and other errors. Went to dealership for these errors where they repaired a faulty sensor on the front for the lane assist and from collision. Said it was fixed...It was not. Within a hour leaving the dealership, if you pressed to turn off the power save button for when the vehicle when it comes to a stop and not idle, the errors all pop up one after another.. they did not correct any of the errors. I check back lighting and they are on and working but errors say they aren't. Front collison day is it not on but it works and alarms a sound. This is dangerous and if it will have dangerous outcome given it would not correct. Also was receiving notification.to pay into a program for future problem the moment it started again (i paid for extra coverage at signing) I don't know if it's electrical, auto start stop, the lights or something else. Car is barely 2 years old with less than 10,000 mi on it (straight for dealership). Dealership do not clear codes or correct the errors no matter me mentioning them to them.

- #11716183February 6, 2026STEERING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
NHTSA Safety Complaint Summary Component: Braking System / Electronic Stability Control / Electrical System Incident Date: November 5, 2025 Vehicle Mileage: 5,207 Description of Defect: While operating the vehicle at highway speeds on the Grand Central Parkway, the vehicle suffered a sudden and complete loss of primary braking function. Simultaneously, the dashboard displayed multiple critical system failures, including: "Service Electronic Stability Control," "Start/Stop Unavailable," "Service Park Brake," and "Dynamic Torque Service Required." The brake pedal became unresponsive/hard, requiring extreme force and distance to bring the vehicle to a stop, nearly resulting in a high-speed collision. This was a non-collision catastrophic mechanical failure of the braking and electronic control modules. Post-Incident History: The vehicle was held by an authorized manufacturer dealership (Hempstead Jeep) for over 60 days. Despite attempted repairs, the vehicle continues to exhibit electrical instability, including intermittent battery failure and charging system warnings. The manufacturer has been unable to provide a permanent remedy for the underlying electrical-to-braking system fault. This vehicle remains a severe risk to public safety and life. - #11715863February 5, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
1.) I own 2024 Jeep Compass Latitude 4x4. Several occasions where rodents have climbed into engine eating away at all the wire components. First time totaling about $4000. No other closely parked cars have been affected since we live in apartment complex. 2.) The automatic emergency braking light keeps illuminating and has activated at least twice during traffic unprovoked and always says to clean all sensors. We have done that but the light still comes on when it wants to.

- #11715728February 4, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Every time that I get into my Jeep there's an issue with the ADAS. Almost immediately once I pull onto the highway 3 warnings will appear on the dashboard display the first is: Blind Spot Temporarily Unavailable, then two orange triangles appear on my mirrors and will not go away. It also happens every time that I make a turn in my car. The next warning that appears is my Automatic Break System is available and "need servicing". My car has less than 12,000 miles on it and is practically brand new. After typing in these problems and doing a quick Google search along with a Reddit search it appears that this issue is widespread among Jeep Compass owners. Please fix this issue IMMEDIATELY! It's extremely dangerous as I have two children that I'm transporting every single day in my car.
