The contact owns a 2015 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, the vehicle lost power, the engine revved abnormally, and the transmission failed to shift as intended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

Fuel gauge erratically and inaccurately showing different levels of fuel- sometimes full, empty or anywhere in between. Potential risk of running out of gas and not knowing. Recalls are listed for other vehicle model years but not this one. No warning messages appear on dashboard. First noticed the problem Feb 2025 and continues to worsen. It has not been seen by a mechanic or dealership yet since first experiencing.

AIR BAGS
A lady driving a Honda Fit pulled out in front of my wife while she was driving her Infinity QX80. My wife was driving about 40-45 MPH at the time of the crash. The driver at fault in the Honda Fit I noticed all air bags deployed. My wife's QX80 had none of the air bags deployed. The officers at the scene were shocked to see the amount of damage to my wife's QX80 while not triggering the air bags to be deployed. One in particular told us to make sure we reported this to the insurance company.

VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY
The contact owns a 2016 Infiniti QX80. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 50 MPH on the interstate, there was an abnormal booming sound coming from the sunroof, and the driver discovered that the sunroof glass had shattered. The contact called the Insurance Company for assistance. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the sunroof needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the dealer was in the process of ordering the part to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 27,448.

Vehicle will not shift pass 3rd gear. Valve body issue, diagnosed by dealership. Many of the same model have the same problem. Vehicles have very low mileage with a problem like this. Dealer refuses to replace part or compensate. Vehicle poses a potential safety issue on the road.

AIR BAGS
Airbag light keeps coming on and we take it in to be serviced and they say hey it shows low voltage so we tighten down your battery and that fixed it. Then we drive 100 miles and it's back on. Took it to a different dealer and they said the same thing. Another few hundred miles airbag light is on again. Putting my families lives in danger. When we bought this vehicle from Carmax that the same issue and took over 6 weeks before we could pick it up.

Sunroof exploded. There is a sunshade which protected passengers. Infiniti dealer and it is my understanding that the Company are aware that it happened. Repairs have been made. Three appeared to be no reason for the sunroof to explode.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, UNKNOWN OR OTHER, SUSPENSION
New QX80 should be taken off the road. The Infotainment system is the central computer system to the car. Countless times where the system reboots WHILE DRIVING yielding electronics cluster (Speed control, Heads up Display, etc) blacked out. Upon "reboot", the stereo system is blaring loud, without ability to turn down volume, creating a dangerous driving environment. Only resolution, to date, is to press and hold for 10-15 seconds the powerbutton to shutoff. Having to do this while driving is dangerous. Other isntances where the car pneumatic suspension system - connected to said infotainment system - faults and creates the car to go up/down while driving. This is similar to a friend who has the same exact car, who's having the same exact issues. There is no resolution. This car NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD UNTIL INFINITI CAN PROVE STABLE COMPUTER FUNCTIONALITY. IT WILL CREATE ACCIDENTS/DEATH. This has happened numerous times. AIR BAGS
The air bag light started flashing. The only thing that I did was have the vehicle oil change and air filters changed. Per the warranty Air Bags are excluded. If the airbags have not deployed or been serviced, there would be no reason to blink unless defective. It costs $2500 for a possible fix and if that doesn’t solve the problem it will cost for the next step and so on. Why is this not a manufacturer issue?

I am writing to report serious safety concerns regarding my 2017 Infiniti QX80. The vehicle has exhibited two primary issues: 1. Unintended Braking: The vehicle has a tendency to suddenly and unexpectedly brake, particularly when driving over specific road surfaces, such as brick-paved intersections. This behavior is extremely dangerous as it can lead to accidents, especially in high-traffic areas. Such abrupt braking can cause the vehicle to lurch forward, potentially leading to rear-end collisions. 2. Frequent Battery Drain and Failure: The vehicle's battery drains rapidly, requiring frequent replacement. Despite multiple visits to the dealership and attempts at repair, the issue persists. This problem significantly compromises the vehicle's reliability and can leave the driver stranded, particularly in emergency situations. I have taken the vehicle to an authorized Infiniti dealership multiple times to address these issues. While the dealership has attempted repairs, the problems have persisted. The frequency and severity of these issues pose a significant safety risk to myself and other drivers. I urge the NHTSA to investigate these issues and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all 2017 Infiniti QX80 owners.

I have come to notice that when I put gas in my 2015 Infiniti (V8 engine vehicles only), QX80 vehicles. The fuel pressure sensors may not have been sufficiently tightened during production. As a result, the fuel pressure sensor may loosen with vehicle usage and cause a fuel leak.

The brakes automatically engage without cause. The problem occurs at both city and highway speeds, from 20-75 mph. It is particularly bad when passing underneath a bridge. The car will abruptly stop. This has been ongoing for monthes. Sometimes, the vehicle will act inappropriately when the brake is applied by the driver. The car will attempt to accelerate. Other times the car will hard brake as if slamming the brakes.

I have been noticing intermittent gasoline smell outside of vehicle. It has been smelling stronger and more often so I decided to inspect it for the second. I removed the carpet and fuel pump cover and discovered the fuel pump is leaking gas. Now I cannot drive vehicle due to gasoline leaking every time the ignition is on. It is a serious safety and fire hazard. I have not contacted the dealer because it is not under warranty.

The primary instrument gauge for the QX80 starts to lose illumination from around the speedometer and tachometer. The vehicle has 55,000 miles and is a 2018 model. This is the SECOND time this has happened, with the instrument gauge being replaced first at approximately 32,000 miles for the same reason. Currently the instrument gauge is continuing to lose lighting - making the speedometer impossible to see at night (SAFETY ISSUE). Infiniti Dealership reports that there is a +/- 2 YEAR waitlist for replacement instrument clusters, and that this is a known problem. The same dealership that replaced it a few years ago. This 2nd instrument cluster started going out in the 20-45 mph segment, then 6500-8000 rpm tach, then 0-20 mph.

STEERING
The plastic trim on the steering wheel that is colored to match the other plastic trim in the car has cracked at the 2:00 clock position. The cracked plastic sometimes lifts when turning the wheel which I feel may cause an accident. I have not had it inspected by the dealer of manufacturer as I'm aware they won't repair it currently. There were no symptoms before it happened, it was just cracked/separated one day. Nissan/Infiniti should be required to repair this potential safety issue.

The most glaring safety issue caused by below is the SUV will try to move forward on its own while stopped and the brakes pressed that can potentially cause a fender bender. Infiniti/Nissan 5.6L engines have a history of failed or failing viscous cooling fan clutches. This goes back over a decade based on the TSG released by NISMO. When the viscous fan begins to fail, the most glaring symptom is that ECM will compensate by revving up the engine RPM...specially with the AC on. This can cause the RPM to go from around 500 to 1000 RPM during an RPM surge. The surge is enough to move the SUV forward at a stop unless the brake is firmly pressed. On hot weather days, this risk is frequent and significant at a top. This viscous fan issue also puts signficant load on the engine and causes significant power loss to the drive train. This issue does not cause any type of "check engine" light since it is strictly a mechanical failure of the mechanism containing the fluids in the viscous assembly.
