Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I began experiencing serious performance issues. While driving, the vehicle suddenly lost power, would not accelerate properly, and warning lights appeared on the dashboard. The vehicle eventually shut off while in operation. The vehicle was inspected by a dealership, which initially stated there were no issues. However, the problem continued and worsened. The vehicle was then inspected by an authorized Infiniti dealership, where technicians identified a consistent knocking noise coming from the engine. The dealership indicated that the noise is consistent with internal engine damage and recommended further inspection and likely engine replacement. The issue developed very shortly after purchase, and there were no prior indications that the vehicle had been damaged or misused. The sudden loss of power and engine failure created a potential safety hazard, especially while driving in traffic, as the vehicle was unable to accelerate and could have led to a dangerous situation. The vehicle is currently available for inspection, and the issue has been confirmed by a certified dealership. The cause of the failure is currently under further evaluation.

The contact owns a 2021 Infinity Q50. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently purchased from a dealer. When the vehicle was purchased, the tires were replaced. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer for maintenance, and while at the dealer, the contact was informed that there were nails in the tires and that the tires needed to be replaced. The contact checked the sticker on the door panel for the tire information. The contact stated that the sticker indicated that the wheels were 18-inch rims. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to install the new tires, and the contact was informed that the rims on the vehicle were 17-inch rims. The vehicle was purchased at a CarMax dealer, and the contact asked why the 17-inch rims on the vehicle. The contact was informed that the ride would be better with the 17-inch rims and tires. The rims were not replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

While driving my vehicle on 12/06/2025, a wheel separated from the vehicle at the knuckle/ball joint area. This resulted in an immediate loss of safe operation and required the vehicle to be taken out of service. The failure involved the wheel/suspension/steering assembly. This event created a serious safety risk, as loss of a wheel while in operation can cause loss of control and endanger the driver, and other motorists. The vehicle became unsafe to drive and has not been operated since the incident. The vehicle has not been repaired. It remains available for inspection and is currently being held at an authorized dealership. No teardown or repairs have been performed. The issue has not been reproduced because the vehicle has not been driven since the failure. The failure has not yet been confirmed through repair, as no repairs or disassembly have been authorized. The manufacturer has been notified. No inspection or written findings have been provided by the manufacturer to date. Insurance representatives and dealership personnel are aware of the incident, but no corrective action has been taken. There were no known warning lights, messages, or abnormal symptoms immediately prior to the failure. The wheel separation occurred suddenly without prior indication.

MY CAR WAS DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL GOT EXTREMLY TIGHT AND THE CAR WAS HARD TO STEER, I HAD TO PULL OVER TURN THE CAR OFF AND THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON, I WAS LIKE 2 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE, TALKING TO A NEIGHBOR THAT HAS SAME CAR DIFFERENT YEAR, STATED TO CHECK RECALL HIS CALL DID THE SAMETHING YEARS AGO WHEN WE HAD A COLD (LOW TEMPERATURE) WINTER AND IT WAS REPLACED BY INFINITI DEALER. I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUE WITH THIS CAR UNTIL NOW.IT'S BEEN REALLY COLD. ALSO THIS CAR HAS ISSUES WHEN IT RAINS, IT DOESN'T WANT TO START, I HAVE CHECK OUT MANY VIDEOS STATING THE SUNROOF LEAKS OR TUBES FOR SUNROOF GETS CLOGGED AND LEAKS INTO THE BCM OR ECM SYSTEM CAUSES DAMAGE AND DASH LIGHTS. IM NOT A MECHANIC BUT I KNOW THAT THIS IS SOMETHING INFINITI/NISSIAN SHOULD HIGHLY LOOK INTO. JUST A GIRL,BUT I KNOW MULTIPLE PEOPLE SHOULDN'T BE POSTING THE SAME CONCERNS ON THEIR CARS AND IT'S NOT BEING LOOKED INTO

- #11711898January 19, 2026WHEELS, SERVICE BRAKES, SUSPENSION
I experienced an ongoing grinding/rattling noise from the wheel/brake area. The vehicle was serviced multiple times by a franchised dealer, which diagnosed the issue as brake-related and performed brake repairs. The noise was not resolved, and the vehicle was returned in the same condition. Shortly after service, an independent mechanic discovered a cracked/broken brake pad installed on the vehicle. Due to safety concerns, the manufacturer authorized inspection at a separate franchised dealership under different ownership. That inspection confirmed aftermarket brake pads, rotors, and related components of unknown origin installed on both the front and rear, missing OEM hardware, improper lubrication, and wheel bearing issues contributing to the noise. The inspecting dealer documented that the braking system must be returned to OEM specifications before safe operation and further diagnosis could continue. Despite this, the manufacturer has declined to require OEM remediation, and the vehicle continues to operate with unauthorized aftermarket brake components. The grinding noise has continued and has since shifted toward the rear. The condition is reproducible, documented by video, and confirmed by independent inspection. I believe the vehicle was returned to service in an unsafe condition involving a critical braking system.

Filing this complaint regarding a safety-related defect involving the turbocharger system on my 2018 INFINITI Q50. The vehicle has approximately 46,000 miles and is 8 years old. INFINITI/Nissan has acknowledged through its own Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that turbocharger failure on 2016–2018 Q50 3.0T vehicles is a known defect. Nissan’s documentation identifies issues such as turbo oil seal leaks, reduced engine power, smoke, and potential catastrophic engine failure, and provides an extended warranty of up to 10 years or 120,000 miles due to the safety risks associated with sudden power loss. My vehicle experienced turbocharger failure consistent with these known defects, resulting in loss of engine power, which presents a serious safety hazard, particularly during highway driving, merging, or intersections. Sudden loss of propulsion increases crash risk and endangers vehicle occupants and others on the road. In some cases, turbo failure can occur with little or no warning, further increasing risk. The failure was confirmed by INFINITI/Nissan service departments, and the vehicle remains available for inspection. CarMax insurance approved the engine repair, acknowledging mechanical failure; however, they declined to approve turbocharger repair specifically because INFINITI has issued a known TSB and extended warranty covering turbo failure, deferring responsibility to the manufacturer. Despite the vehicle being within the extended warranty limits, Nissan denied coverage, claiming the vehicle has a “branded title.” This claim is unsupported by VIN reports, the loan originator, and CarMax’s own title search prior to leasing all confirm the title is not branded. Nissan has provided no documentation supporting its assertion. Nissan N.A. reviewed and closed the matter despite the known safety defect and lack of evidence for the title claim. Represents a safety-related defect and improper denial of a manufacturer-recognized safety remedy, warranting NHTSA review.

The door lock of the driver's door is stuck in the locked position and the door cannot be unlocked or opened. It will not unlock using the key fob, nor with the manual control inside the door, nor with the emergency key from outside the car. This could trap an inured driver inside the car in the event of an accident. The car has not yet been inspected by anyone. There was no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. Earlier that same day the door failed to open while in gear but did so when I shifted to park. As this car was very recently purchased by me and I am still learning about it, I failed to recognize this a symptom of an impending failure. Regardless of that warning, total failure occurred the same day. As a graduate engineer who has worked in engineering related fields for more then 50 years I can recognize that a failure mode such as this is both a health and safety hazard to occupants in the event of an accident and a design defect that should not be allowed to be sold to the general public. Thank you for any consideration you give this complaint.

The serpentine belt on my 2018 Infiniti Q50 Sport became contaminated with oil immediately after dealer turbo replacement at the end of August 2025, causing the belt to slip, shred, and be pulled into the engine. This resulted in sudden loss of essential engine functions and poses a significant safety hazard. This failure was caused by improper repair at the dealership.”

I had a passenger seat belt light on and took it to Jim Coleman Infiniti in Bethesda,MD. They then were going to charge me a diagnostic fee to fix it, but instead proceeded to perform a zero point seat reset and got the error code B00A0 and then the passenger air bag light came on. They subsequently said that the vehicle was not covered under any recall or warranty and said that the seat needed to be replaced and informed me that it would be around $8000 at that time. Now it must be more. Looking at the recall campaign 16V244000 my vehicle does not qualify since it is one model year later, but I have seen others have the same issue that I have with the 2017 Q50. There is infact one in Florida that has a similar experience as mine. Talking to the dealer and Infiniti neither wanted to do a goodwill jesters and would only reduce the cost by a few thousand dollars. That still meant that I would need to put out more than $4000 to get a safety issue that should be covered. The symptoms and error codes are exactly the same. So I ask that you extend the recall campaign to the 2017 model year as well for the Q50. It is a safety hazard that will be present on the streets. The dealer also refuses to do the module reset saying that it will fail again. Pleas ask Infiniti to cover the cost of ensuring this critical safety for the passenger side is resolved for all model years that have the error code from the recall.

My vehicle has been stalling and burning/leaking oil internally for some time now with white smoke coming from the rear. Well Infiniti sent a post card and stated that the emission warranty is extended for 120,000 miles which my vehicle has had the issue for some time and it was already over 120k miles at the time of the loss. The issue Infiniti reported in their postcard is, you may experience issue with the turbocharger, Overtime there is a possibility for the turbocharger thrust bearing to wear and leak oil internally. The most likely conditions you will experience are excessive white smoke from the exhaust, MIL-On an in rare cases reduced engine power or damage to the internal components. My vehicle is experiencing all these issues reported and the company, Infiniti, knows this is an issue and did not issue a recall the extended warranty instead, most people will not qualify for which will require people to thousand of dollars replacing the turbocharger assembly and engine control model. I got a quote and was told 8000 dollars unfortunately I cannot have repairs done. I believe it was January 2025 when the post card came from Infiniti identifying the issue

The contact owns a 2014 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel felt loose and made an abnormal knocking sound while making a turn. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to manually move the steering column from underneath the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved DTC: C1130 and C1138. The mechanic informed the contact that the failure could be related to the steering column, but a more detailed inspection of the steering system was needed to confirm the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,850.

The engine and turbo system failed in my 2017 Infiniti Q50 Signature Edition (VIN [XXX] ). The vehicle remains at CarMax Naperville, where it has been since March 2025. Internal repair orders show CarMax performed two failed inspections in August 2020 before selling the vehicle as “CarMax Certified” on September 3, 2020. The vehicle should not have passed certification. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I noticed it was pulling hard to the right. During my first tire rotation and oil change, the technician informed me that all four tires were severely dry-rotted and unsafe to drive on. CarMax had represented the vehicle as fully inspected and road-ready. These conditions suggest the vehicle had sat for an extended period after a prior four-point accident and should have never been certified for sale. None of this was disclosed to me at purchase. In March 2025, the engine failed. CarMax later reported that a replacement engine was installed, part #10102-6HN3A (single-turbo) instead of the required #10102-5CH2D (twin-turbo VR30DDTT). This engine does not match the original factory specifications for my VIN. Infiniti of Naperville confirmed that my vehicle qualifies for a free extended turbo and engine warranty (TSB P4A05/P4A06), but CarMax declined to use the required OEM one-time-use parts, voiding that coverage. CarMax has refused to provide inspection reports, diagnostic data, emissions test results, or engine serial numbers despite over forty written requests. I have no documentation confirming what work was performed or whether the vehicle is safe or compliant with emissions standards. The car has now been sitting at CarMax for over seven months, with rusted brakes and unknown mechanical condition. They are just concerned about me coming to get the car. This raises serious concerns about safety, emissions compliance, and potential consumer fraud involving improper certification and undisclosed prior damage. Car is showing a p0720 code which is an issue with the valve body. The car will not go past 3rd gear. This is a known problem with this vehicle. Infiniti is not issuing a recall. The car won't run and the consumer is having to foot the bill for the repair when they know it's an issue with the vehicle and the transmission.

The contact's son owns a 2018 Infiniti Q50. The contact stated that soon after purchasing the vehicle, there was an abnormal screeching sound coming from the brakes while depressing the brake pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact's son took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the brake pads and rotors replaced. However, less than one month after the replacement of the pads and rotors, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the front passenger’s side brakes. The mechanic was notified of the issue, and the contact was informed that the brake calipers might also need to be replaced. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine temperature gauge indicated that the engine was hot(H), with white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, but the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to another independent mechanic and the contact's son was informed that the head gasket had failed, and an engine replacement was recommended. The dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that there were no recalls or warranty on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and provided the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
