VISIBILITY/WIPER
The windshield is damaged very easily when a small rock hits it on the road. It's been hit before the recall and the new windshield is damaged. It's a hazard especially if it can be easily cracked. I've had other vehicles that can handle small rocks on road ways. These are damages from tiny rocks. This windshield is very weak, the Crack continues to spread all over day to day.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The high beams failed and Hyundai will only say that my VIN isn’t part of the recall. Service Campaign T5G covers the exact same symptoms that my car is experiencing. Since Hyundai refuses to acknowledge that the safety issue in this campaign affects more than what they’ve previously admitted, myself and other owners are left to repair the defect at our own expense. A Google search brings up more than a few posts of owners that were also denied the recall because Hyundai says that their 2020 Elantra VIN isn’t included in the recall. This shows that Hyundai refuses to acknowledge the full scope of the vehicles that have defect. Proper headlight function is absolutely necessary. High beams not working even cause state inspections to fail. Hyundai needs to be forced to fix this major defect in a safety critical lighting system, as it is clear that they have no desire to keep the owners of their 2020 Elantras safe.

ENGINE
The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and releasing the accelerator pedal to come to a stop, the vehicle sputtered, made a clicking sound, and stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V301000 (Engine) and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

The Pearl White paint falls off of the vehicle, exposing the primer to the elements and reducing the life and usage of the vehicle. Paint has also flown up and stuck to the windshield, obscuring visibility.

My husband filed a complaint about the lighting on his Hyundai sonata and I have a Hyundai Elantra that is doing the same thing. Twice now while I’ve been driving at night, my headlights have gone off an and come back on by themselves. They were off about 15 seconds each time. Then this week I had my back break light (the one close to the windshield) and the passenger side headlights go out suddenly. My car is a 2018 Elantra with 70k miles on it. I just got through replacing both headlights about a year ago when my car had 60k miles on it.

ENGINE
Original catastrophic engine failure in Sept. of 2022 while exiting the highway, was able to safely leave roadway. Determined that the motor had suffered symptoms shared with models related to Recall 203. Hyundai honored "goodwill" repair, but the repaired motor began suffering substantial and sustained loss of power with evidence of cylinder scoring 1 year/20,000 miles after replacement. Secondary incident occurred while merging onto highway and required evasive maneuver to avoid collision. Car is now parked and cannot be driven due to inability to operate safely on the road. Summary of events, related correspondence to repair, goodwill repair sheet, and original purchase documentation attached.

STEERING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
We were on our way home from the beach on [XXX]. Coming through Birmingham on [XXX] in the far left (fast) lane traveling 78-80 mph with traffic flow, the car starts sounding a loud alarm with red flashing lights on the dashboard. The notification flashing said to “Check Hybrid system HEV BATTERY, Stop safely”. The car began to power down with no acceleration. I was unable to get across to the far-right lane to pull over, we had to just squeeze in between the concrete barrier and the cars flying by. Not to mention no flashers – nothing. The car is DEAD. We started to google hoping someone else had this issue and posted what we could do. There was a video for this exact issue stating to push a button on the left side of the dash that would reset the battery. We did that and it began to power back on. We rode in the far-right lane for the rest of the ride home, worried it would happen again. It did. On [XXX]., I was able to move over while it was powering down and get out of traffic. We received a notice from Hyundai around this time stating there were 3 recalls that needed to be fixed and one involved the HEV battery. We assumed it would fix this issue. We got another notice about 3 additional recalls (one also involved the HEV battery) and we called to get it scheduled but they were already booked out until Sept. So, we scheduled that appointment for the 2nd week in Sept. Fast forward a few weeks after making that appointment and after the recalls were done, it did it again 2 days in a row on my way home from work. One of these times it powered down and the only place to pull off was in a turning lane. The turning lane happened to be for oncoming traffic, but I thought I could hit the reset fast enough to be safe. It took a little longer than expected and I have many videos of this and cars were having to go around me to make their turn. I have one other I can go into more detail another way. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The soldering of the end cap in the engine fuel rail failed and allowed gas under pressure to leak out. Fuel sprayed out in the engine compartment and the smell was evident inside and outside of the vehicle while in operation. Not sure how it did not start an engine fire. Repairing was a simple task that I handled as this is the only vehicle available to me. Ordered a new fuel rail which was only available from a dealer without issue and completing the repair went without issue. Did not have anyone else look at the problem as once I figured out the problem, did not want to drive the car anywhere. I have the old fuel rail for anyone who needs to inspect it.

ENGINE
The engine seized up completely and the car would not start. The car ran fine prior to this on the same day and there were no warning lights or warnings when a portable code reader was plugged in to assess the problem. It was towed to a mechanic who said it looked like excessive oil consumption as the oil was changed only 6 weeks prior and the level was assessed to be perfect then. This is a safety risk due to the engine seizing without warning. If this were to happen while driving, it could cause a fire or cause the driver to be stranded on a busy road, causing accidents. The car is being looked at by a hyundai dealer currently.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
While driving vehicle the black nylon fuel line started spraying fuel over the top of the hot engine. At highway speed the passenger compartment filled up with gasoline fumes. Pulled over to open the hood and saw fuel streaming from the fuel line on top of engine. Vehicle was shut down, and AAA towing called to tow vehicle 85 miles from StAugustine Fl, to Gainesville Florida to Hyundai Dealership of Gainesville. The vehicle has been in the shop on [XXX], for repairs. This vehicle only has 44000 miles on it. Hyundai states that they don’t have the fuel line in the USA and had to order the part from Korea. I was stranded 352 miles from my home. I called Hyundai corporate to notify them of this issue with the defective fuel line. They said there is no recall on this part, and not covered under the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. They told me it’s going to cost me $1124.26 for the repair. I almost lost my life potentially being barbecued in this vehicle, not to mention other innocent people getting hurt. I have owned many cars in my lifetime and this is the most dangerous vehicle I ever had. Potential to explode and catch fire while driving on expressway. I think NHTSA should look into this vehicles safety before other innocent people get killed. An extremely dangerous road hazard. Note this vehicle only has 44,000 miles and is maintained properly. Hyundai doesn’t care about safety, and their customers. When I purchased this vehicle they told me how safe it was and the best auto warranty in the world. At approximately 67,000 miles the airbag light on the instrument cluster has become permanently illuminated. This appears to be a common issue, causing Hyundai to extend the warranty on the clock spring; however, the GT model is not covered by this technical service bulletin. This issue may impact the deployment of the airbags and so should be a safety recall rather than a TSB which doesn't even cover all affected models.

A fire started in the passenger headlight assembly. The car had only been running for about 7 minutes directly prior to the fire being noticed. At the time of the fire it was parked & turned off. No injuries. It burned thru/melted part of the bumper & damaged something with the windshield washer fluid. Several people were at risk due to there being a fire! The car was parked at a gas station when the fire broke out. I don't think they have done a thorough investigation yet. It is current at Hyundai of Metairie in Metairie LA. According to the service technician my car is not the only one they have there that had the same thing happen. No warning signs, sounds, or anything else.

For the now 2nd time for the SAME problem as before, I was on the highway and the car just cut off mid drive on 8/17/2024 @70mph!! Engine light came on. Later that day while on the street, 35-40 mph, ALL OF A SUDDEN NO ENGINE LIGHT ON... the car cuts off again mid drive!! I purchased the car with roughly 15k miles on it and it's been absolutely nothing but issues back to back. The daytime running lights constantly blow out also. The shop supposedly repaired this issue when I put it in the shop the first time, but it's doing the exact same thing again.
