2025 Honda Odyssey has completely shut down at a traffic light and stop signs. This has now happened multiple times. When waiting at a red light the car fails to restart the car when I take my foot off the brake and I get a message “to continue to drive depress brake pedal and push switch” . The red battery light comes on and the car puts it self in park. The car fails to turn on or turn all the way off. The car is stuck in park in the middle of traffic.

while running in expressway, van lost it's power and went to parking mode while driving x 3, have to turn on and off the engine in order to restart in the middle of expressway. this put myself, 2 toddlers, and other family member in the car to get hit by the vehicle that is with us especially in the express way, and could have resulted to death at worst. Luckily able to take to the dealer and they said that the battery was dead and not holding any charge at all, this happened 6/10/26, we bought the car 4/2025 brand new, and currently have 8500miles on it. Dealer replaced the battery the same day. there was no warnings on the dashboard that was telling us that the battery was getting low or having any issue. this incident could have killed us in an instant with no warning at all. this is very dangerous.

This event has happened multiple times in various situations. While sitting at a red light the auto idle stop feature was engaged and the engine turned off as normal. Upon lifting my foot off the brake, the car fails to restart leaving me stranded in the middle of the intersection. This caused an unsafe situation as I was unable to restart the vehicle until after a few tries, leaving cars having to navigate around me in busy intersections. I have also had situations where I was unable to start the car while in park. It would start after the second try. This car was purchased in Fall 2024 and started showing this issue less than 1 year after purchase. Given the age of the vehicle, it should not have battery or starter issues this early on in the lifecycle of the vehicle. Looking online, other 2025 Honda odyssey drivers have posted similar issues. At first I thought it was just a fluke, but lately I have been having more frequent occurrences. A recall must be issued on the battery/starter to prevent future accident that is just waiting to happen. Being stranded in an intersection is incredibly unsafe.

While having the idle-stop system in use our van had shut off three times at a red light when we took our foot off the brake to press the accelerator. This left us at an intersection with a dead engine. Not knowing what was going on it took us a few moments to get the van turned back on and into drive. I had the van in for routine service and asked them to look at it with no issued found. It will go in again next week for additional checks. The only warning light is the battery icon comes on. Battery was checked at the dealer with no issues found.

Electrical restart feature failures, battery dash indicator comes on and the restart feature won’t engage. This has happened on several occasions on busy roads with lights vehicle won’t move without manually turning off vehicle and putting into park to restart. Was almost rear ended by large truck after being unable to restart vehicle after being stopped at a red light.

My 2026 Honda Odyssey was stopped at a traffic light with Auto Idle Stop engaged. When traffic was ready to move, the engine appeared to restart for about half a second and then shut down. The vehicle then shifted itself into Park and would not resume normal operation. The battery warning light was illuminated. Pressing the engine Start/Stop button caused all of the screens/displays to turn off briefly, but they came back on in the same failed state. The vehicle was disabled in traffic at an intersection. The component or system that failed appears to be the Auto Idle Stop / engine restart system, possibly involving the starter, starter relay, battery/charging system, or engine control software. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the vehicle unexpectedly failed to restart and became disabled while stopped at a traffic light, creating a traffic obstruction and risk of being struck from behind or causing other drivers to maneuver around the vehicle. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. UNKNOWN whether diagnostic trouble codes were stored. The vehicle/component has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure that I noticed. The battery warning light appeared after the engine shut down and the vehicle would not restart normally.

Had the starter & battery replaced November 2025. It’s now June 2026 and it still is having trouble starting. It will sometimes not start and then just make a clicking noise and all the lights in the dash come on and air, but engine won’t well start. Then you take foot off break, then turn it off and try again it will start. The dealership ran tests and said everything was fine. When we first had this problem the car would stall out and shut off in traffic.

Sitting at a stop light. The car stopped the engine with the auto start stop system. When I released my foot off the brake. The engine didn’t start back up. I had to put it in park. Press the start button multiple times and it finally barely started. This was in traffic right while the light turned green.

Bad starter. When utilizing auto start/stop, the engine would fail to restart at stop. The car would need to be shifted back to park, turned all the way off, and then back on to restart, resulting in a delay - an unsafe practice at an intersection.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Auto Start/Stop function only works intermittently on our 2021 Honda Odyssey. Occasionally, when the Auto Start/Stop function does shut off the engine when the vehicle is at a complete stop, the engine fails to restart on its own. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This malfunction occurs intermittently and without warning when the vehicle is at a complete stop in traffic. The vehicle cannot be driven under its own power in this condition, often leaving it disabled in a traffic lane with other vehicles stuck behind and/or passing by at normal travel speeds. As such, it endangers both the occupants of my vehicle and the other vehicles in the vicinity. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. My local Honda dealership acknowledged the problem and completed a PGM-FI software update. However, this update did not correct the issue, and Honda refuses to take financial responsibility for the repairs necessary to correct the problem. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes. The following timeline details my interactions with my local Honda dealership regarding this issue: 4/13/23 - The dealership inspected the vehicle and claimed the Auto Start/Stop system was "operating as designed"; 9/6/24 - The dealership completed a PGM-FI update as directed by a Honda product update campaign; 2/12/26 - The dealership inspected the vehicle, suggested battery replacement (which tested good on 3/3/26), and if still not corrected, advised replacement of the starter at my expense. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The problem has occurred without notice since purchase on 3/11/21.

Auto Idle Stop system engages (turning the engine off in highway traffic and at a red light or stop sign), the engine occasionally fails to restart on its own. I have to put in park and restart. Almost causing accident started when van had 25k now I have 46k on the odometer and Honda said no longer covered.

-Engine fails to restart on its own from a complete stop at a traffic light or road intersection with the AIS function engaged. -This issue presents a significant safety hazard for my two small children and me. On multiple occasions, we have been unable to move due to severe traffic congestion, leaving us vulnerable to aggressive and hostile behavior from other drivers. The resulting situation is both stressful and unsafe, particularly when traveling with young children. -Issue has happened several times -No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure -Reported the issue to the dealership as the vehicle is still under warranty. Per service technician, there is not alarms or issues with the vehicle. Nothing is being done by Honda to address this issue. Please help

The vehicle’s auto stop-start randomly does not start the engine when releasing the brake. The vehicle is temporarily disabled on the roadway and it puts itself into Park. The vehicle requires intervention to restart the engine and the delay takes several seconds and poses a safety risk by blocking the roadway.

Engine start/stop feature is not working properly and it nearly caused a few accidents. I am getting rid of this car and going to purchase a Toyota Sienna. Android Auto doesn't work either which is a known issue as well and it is a basic safety feature to keep driver's attention on the road and not on their phones.

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was driving down a 35mph road, the car in front of me slowed down, I was about 2 car lengths behind it. No notice, no warning, my Odyssey SLAMMED on the brakes and brought me to an abrupt stop with no notice and no need. Everything in the van flew forward and in the floor. Luckily there was no one directly behind me. It gives me serious whiplash when this happens and it is uncalled for, the car in front of me did not stop it only slowed down, there was plenty of room between our vehicles (we were only going about 30 mph) and there was absolutely no warning- just BAM! and my van was stopped in the middle of the road. Something needs to be done about this, someone is going to be killed! I took it to the dealer the last time and they said the van did not record it. So another easy out for Honda! And nothing they can do...

After stopping at a red light behind a few cars in a left turn lane, the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system turned off the engine. A moment later the light turned green and I let my foot up from the brake pedal. The engine failed to start. The hazard lights turned on automatically. I reapplied pressure to the brake and pressed the Engine Start/Stop button, which had no effect. Electrical systems remained active (i.e. the car did not turn off completely), but the engine also didn't start. I ensured the vehicle was in park and stepped out to verify the fuel door was closed (I had just filled the tank) and check the battery connections. Cars were going around us on the passenger side, and oncoming traffic was very close to me on the driver's side. I was concerned for myself and my passengers. No one was injured, nor was there a collision. After returning to the driver's seat, I tried the Engine Start/Stop button again. This time the car shut down. I waited a minute, then started the car. The engine started successfully. The vehicle is available for inspection. The problem has not been reproduced. We have been disabling AIS since the incident, so it's unlikely to happen again. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center, nor has it been inspected by anyone yet. I noticed the engine being slightly slower to restart after AIS stopped it in the few weeks leading up to the incident. There were no other symptoms I noticed.

Idle Stop issue- We were at a stop light and the engine idle stopped. When the light turned green and the foot was taken off the brake, the engine did not turn back on. We had to turn hazards on and turn van completely off. We tried several times to restart the vehicle and the engine did not respond. We finally got it to turn on a couple minutes later but the engine sounded as if it was struggling to turn on.
