I WAS GOING UP A STEEP NARROW ROAD, A BIG TRUCK WAS COMING DOWN SO I STOPPED AND HONKED SO HE WOULD BACK UP. WHEN HE DID, I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE MY SUV. IT FROOZE ENTIRELY, WOULDNT GO UP, WOULDNT GO IN REVERSE, JUST STAYED ON BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO GO BACK A LITTLE AND MOVE TO A SIDE AND THEN I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE UP THE ROAD. THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED SO I ASKED THE SERVICE SHOP AT THE DEALER TO CHECK IN DRIVING THE SAME ROAD. THE SITUATION DID NOT REPLICATE, THEREFORE THEY SAY THERES NOTHING THEY CAN DO OR CHECK, ALTHOUGH I HAVE READ THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN KNOW TO DO THIS, BUT THEY DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE PRINTED EVIDENCE I TOOK TO THEM.. THERE WERE SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT HAD TO BE CHECKED BUT THE MANAGER REFUSED TO EVEN READ THE INFORMATION. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED I STEP ON THE GAS UP TO THE END, ALTHOUGH THE MANUAL SAYS YOU SHOULD HIT GAS SLOWLY WHEN STOPING ON A HILL. EITHER WAY I TRIED BOTH WAYS....IT STILL FREEZES.

Honda hrv 2025 malfunctioning when brake hold system is activated. Brake hold system lets individuals use the brake whenever needed without your foot having to be on the pedal the entire time. You can come to a red light, step on the pedal and take your foot off the pedal and the car will remain stopped until you press on the gas. Over the course of leasing this vehicle sometimes the brake system problem message would show but it would disappear right away. I let the dealership know of this issue when I got my first oil change but since the message wasn’t currently displayed on the dashboard they did not attend to it. Earlier this week the car suddenly glitches when brake hold is activated and deactivates itself followed by All kinds of messages on the dash. I will upload them here to see. From brake system,TPMS, hill start assist all malfunction and when you turn the car off it doesn’t start back up automatically. This is a serious safety concern as the brake system malfunction and car not turning on can happen suddenly when driving causing injury to myself and those around me. A simple google search shows that this is common for this vehicle make, model and year however no recall has been filled.

I own a 2024 Honda HR-V. The vehicle developed a steering problem where the steering wheel becomes unusually stiff and difficult to control. Honda issued NHTSA Recall 24V-744 for defective steering gearbox components affecting 2023-2025 Honda HR-V vehicles. My vehicle was manufactured during the same production period referenced in the recall. However, my VIN is not included in the recall even though the symptoms match the defect described by Honda. A Honda dealership inspected the vehicle and indicated the steering system requires repair estimated at approximately $4,000. Because the defect matches the steering gearbox issue described in Recall 24V-744, I believe my vehicle may have the same safety defect but was excluded from the recall. This creates a potential safety risk because steering control can be affected while driving.

2020 Honda HR-V — OBD Monitors Fail to Reset After Battery Replacement. Dealer Refused Help. Cannot Pass MA State Inspection. Following a routine battery replacement, my 2020 Honda HR-V OBD monitors will not reset, making it impossible to pass Massachusetts state inspection. I have followed Honda’s recommended drive cycle exactly — driven 562 miles, completed 142 warm-up cycles — and the system still shows “not ready.” I have made multiple trips to inspection stations, waited in long lines each time, and been turned away every single time. I have lost significant time, wasted fuel, and face real risk of registration penalties — for a car that runs perfectly. When I contacted Honda of Newton Corner — my exclusive service dealership — they told me they could not help me. No escalation. No fix. No support. I am not a mechanic. I am a customer who followed every instruction, trusted the brand, trusted the dealer, and has been left completely alone to deal with this! This is a safety concern. If Honda’s OBD system cannot confirm its own monitors are functioning after 562 miles and 142 cycles, there is no assurance the vehicle’s emissions and safety systems are working properly. This issue is not isolated — multiple HR-V owners across 2019–2022 model years report identical problems. Honda has issued no software fix and no dealer protocol to resolve it. I am requesting NHTSA investigate Honda’s OBD monitor reset failure across HR-V models and require Honda to issue a remedy — including dealer-authorized in-shop resets and a software update. Honda created this problem and has abandoned its customers entirely.I should not have to choose between driving an uninspected vehicle and being stranded. This is a defect in Honda’s drive cycle reset logic. Honda needs to issue a software update and instruct dealers to perform monitor resets!A dealership that exclusively services your vehicle should have all the necessary tools and the obligation to help. Deeply disappointed.

I own a 2017 Honda HR-V with White Orchid Pearl paint (NH-788P) that has experienced significant paint peeling and flaking on the roof, hood, and upper panels despite normal care. This appears to be a known manufacturing defect affecting many vehicles with this paint code. **Honda Motor Company acknowledged the issue in Service Bulletin A19-064 and extended the warranty for paint failure, but Honda refused assistance because my vehicle is slightly outside the warranty period. The defect significantly impacts the vehicle’s appearance, value, and could eventually lead to corrosion. Additionally, my vehicle has had a long-term water leak from the rear hatch/roof area, with water entering the tail lights and interior. The leak has worsened and is now soaking the seats, seatbelts, and headliner inside the vehicle. The dealership says they must remove the headliner and wants to charge $1,500 just for diagnosis, which I cannot afford. I believe this is also a manufacturing defect, as similar roof and water leak problems have been reported by other Honda owners. I am requesting that this issue be investigated and that the manufacturer be held responsible for these defects.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while stopped, the ABS, Brake, traction control, and several other warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was safe to drive to the residence, but not for regular daily use. Once the contact was at the residence, the contact repeatedly restarted the vehicle after the warning lights turned off; however, the warning light returned after additional restarts. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the mechanic discovered DTC: 3211, which was related to the ABS solenoid valve malfunction. The contact was informed that the failure did not need immediate service, and the vehicle could be driven for short-range trips; the vehicle was reset, and the warning lights were cleared. The contact stated that upon driving to the residence, the warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven back to the dealer where a reset was attempted but failed. The contact was informed that the solenoid valve needed to be replaced; however, the part for the repair was on backorder. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.

There is premature belt deterioration that ultimately caused the transmission to be a complete failure. It has been confirmed by the dealership. On September 17. 2025 I was at a red light on Normandie Avenue and Exposition Blvd the light turned green and as I was entering the intersection going southbound my doors on the vehicle started locking and un locking, my dashboard went black and the car shut off, The Braking system malfunction, the airbag did not deploy, my knees hit the bottom part of the dashboard and my mouth hit the steering wheel knocking out several teeth. The dashboard only had an airbag code, a brake code and a vehicle with the doors opened on the screen. I had the car towed to my home and informed my insurance company of the incident, they referred me to a body shop who held my vehicle for 5 months after doing the body work, they labeled my vehicle unsafe to drive because the codes are still on the vehicle, not knowing that this body shop doesn't do electrical work. I reached out to Honda several times because they were the last ones to work on my vehicle for the fuel pump recall, but they noted VSA\ABS for the last couple of weeks I finally talked with Service Manager Marvin Cabrera and he directed me to American Honda Motors and after reaching out to them since the 3rd of February, they keep telling me about appointing an investigation inspection with the FTS (field technical specialist) and I have not received any updates about my vehicle. These are the codes that came up while using the scan tool U0416 Invalid Data Received from vehicle Dynamics Control Module, B00D5 Occupant Classification System Sensor Fault, B0090 Left Frontal Restraints Sensor Incorrect Component Installed

My transmission went before the car hit 100 thousand miles. It put me at risk because I was in the middle of the road and my car wouldn’t move. The problem was confirmed by the Honda dealer. There were zero warning signs before this happened.

I've been the only owner to this 22' Honda HRV and I have serviced it at the dealer 90% of the time. All oil changes, coolant flush, transmission services etc. done on time. I recently got it diagnosed at my local Honda dealer because it was starting to make a noise when you stepped on the gas. The noise started at about 95k miles and becomes louder as you increase the speed of the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed it with an internal transmission failure. There were no warning lights or messages ever. No prior check engine lights on or mechanical issues prior to this. I am very disappointed with this vehicle. Hopefully this issue is looked into. I do not hope for this to happen to anyone with this vehicle.

2019 Honda HRV with 14,539 miles has been showing on the instrumentation brake failure; this warning only lasts 1/2 to 1 second with a chirp warning . Took to vehicle Honda dealership twice under warranty and could not be replicated. August 2025 took the vehicle to a local repair garage; replaced the two rear caliber motors and the electric power parking brake after the local garage conducted research on this problem on the internet. All replaced equipment are OEM equipment manufactured by Honda Motors. Solve the brake failure warning for 6 months before the brake failure warning appears on the instrumentation counsel.

I am writing to formally report a recurring safety defect regarding the infotainment system in my 2022 Honda HR-V. For over a month, the system has remained completely non-functional (blank screen). Prior to this total failure, the unit exhibited intermittent power cycles since the date of purchase around February 2024. Upon inspection by an authorized Honda dealership, technicians confirmed that this is a known computer hardware issue frequent in this model year. Despite their admission that they "see this a lot," there is currently no active recall to address the defect. Safety Implications This failure is not merely a convenience issue; it creates several significant safety hazards: • Loss of Driver Assistance: The rearview camera and LaneWatch™ camera are completely disabled, significantly increasing the risk of collisions during reversing or lane changes. • Distracted Driving: I am unable to use integrated navigation, forcing reliance on handheld devices for directions. • Emergency Communication: The internal USB ports have failed along with the unit, preventing phone charging. This leaves me at risk of having no communication during a roadside emergency or breakdown. Evidence I have documented video evidence of a certified Honda technician stating that this is a pervasive and "very common" issue with this vehicle's architecture. I urge the association to investigate these systemic failures. A safety-critical component like the rearview camera should not be subject to such widespread hardware instability without a manufacturer-led remedy.

While stopped at a traffic signal, the vehicle failed to restart when the light turned green. On another occasion, the vehicle stalled during operation and would not start. The engine would crank but there was no ignition. This created a safety risk because the vehicle was disabled in traffic and unable to move out of the roadway, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other crash. The vehicle was towed to a dealership for inspection. The dealer diagnosed a failed Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The diagnosis indicated no spark and that the ignition coils were not receiving signal, although the crank sensor signal was present. The PCM was replaced, and the vehicle started and operated normally after replacement. No additional wiring, fuse, or grounding issues were identified. There were no prior warning lights, dashboard messages, or drivability symptoms before the failure occurred. The failure happened unexpectedly at approximately 52,889 miles. The replaced PCM is available through the servicing dealership if inspection is requested.

Hello, I am reaching out with extreme dissatisfaction of my recently purchased 2016 Honda HR-V. This car was part of the extended warranty via service bulletin 21-046 Warranty Extension: 2016-20 HR-V CVT Premature Belt Deterioration. My car has been cared for extremely closely, and we planned to be a Honda customer for life up until this past week. On [XXX], my wife and I were driving on the highway when all of a sudden the entire dashboard lit up with warning signals and went into "Limp" mode. We were able to get off the highway, although it induced GREAT stress as we did so. Upon taking it to the Honda Dealership (Fred Beans of Abington), we were told the CVT has failed and would cost an estimated $8,400 to repair. The car is 9 years and 3 months old, with 117,000 miles. We submitted a goodwill request through Honda Americas where the Honda team came back and stated that the car is outside of the timeline and denied our claim. I spoke to Jocelyn and she was pleasant while delivering extremely upsetting news. I am not disputing the fact that the extended warranty clearly states 7 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. I am disputing the fact that Honda has basically admitted that the CVT will fail early, and if you don't drive as much as Honda deems "average", then you are [XXX]. The extended warranty should be up to 150,000 miles, period. We are a one car household and are now basically stuck between a rock and a hard place trying to decide what to do. This car is effectively totaled even though we conducted regular maintenance. I am appealing to your better judgement to re-open our case and get somebody else to re-evaluate the circumstances. The contact owns a 2024 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while the contact's daughter was driving at 42 mph with the cruise control engaged, the collision mitigation sensor independently activated. The contact's daughter noticed that the steering wheel had almost seized, and the vehicle's speed abruptly decreased. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. Another vehicle was making a turn and crashed into the contact's vehicle. In addition, the "Brake" message was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact mentioned that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The contact's daughter was taken to the local medical center. The contact's daughter sustained muscle pain in the back, neck, both shoulders, both jaws, and severe headaches. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

- #11719550February 21, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, STEERING
While driving on highway under 40mph, the brakes and steering wheel locked simultaneously. I was unable to control the car—pressing the foot brake and emergency brake did not stop the car and I could not steer as the wheel was locked. I ended up on the side of the road alongside a wall of snow. The dashboard was lighting up throughout this time with rotating emergency messaging—TPMS, transmission, brake system, flat tire, etc. There were no warning messages displayed and complete control of the car was taken away without warning. It was 530am so I was lucky there was no one else on the road or else this could have led to a fatal accident. The car was towed to the dealer and they said it was an electronic brake booster that went bad, but are unsure if this caused both the brake and steering failure. The dealer has not been transparent or helpful. They initially said there was nothing wrong with the car and that it was safe to drive. I reported it to Honda corporate and they have not gotten back—triaged as level 1 incident due to severity.
