I purchased a used Honda from a Toyota dealership in May of 2024. Shortly after, I began experiencing issues with steering, particularly at higher speeds. The steering wheel began sticking in place (when turning the wheel to the left) and became more difficult to turn, making it unsafe to drive. In order to keep the car within the lane, I often have to overcorrect and the car jerks. This is the result of a known issue with the power steering rack, which is part of an ongoing investigation and has directly caused several accidents. The issue has not been confirmed or inspected by a dealer or any other party, since I purchased it from a Toyota dealership and it is not under manufacturer warranty as it has higher mileage. I am considering all options before taking the car for a diagnostic, as I do not believe I should be responsible for the costs associated with a faulty, factory part installed by Honda. The parts are also currently on a backlog. The system does not indicate any issues with the vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the steering wheel pulled slightly in the opposite direction and made a clicking sound. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Please help. I have purchased my 2024 Honda Civic last year in 2023. I’ve had my Honda Civic for a year now. I recently noticed my steering wheel “sticky” as some other 2022-2024 Honda Civic owners have reported and stated on all media’s after researching. This mainly occurs to me after the car has warmed up and or its at its normal temperatures and driving. The steering wheel can feel some “fight” even at 2 degree adjustment while driving. I feel unsafe to drive my car. I have read and discovered some have recalls for this matter of steering rack problems. Honda contacted me weeks after purchasing my Honda Civic and scheduled me to bring in my Honda to have it checked for the recall and apparently my Honda does not have a recall. I have called Honda today, 8/26/2024, and I explained what I am experiencing with my steering and they said due to my car being over 36k miles it’s no longer under warranty even though this problem seems to be more of a recall type and should not require to be under warranty. Perhaps this recall has not been called for yet or discovered and I am reaching out to get help. As I am concerned and I am worried about my safety the safety for others as I am driver and transport passengers on daily basis as part of my job. Please once again help with my case and please investigate. As part of researching I did discover a rough cost of the steering rack and it is expensive and it was just for the part not including labor. This is unsafe and unfair. I hope whoever reads my description can understand my situation and help me. I am willing to cooperate with any information needed for this investigation as I believe it to be a future recall especially since the car has not had any accidents nor damages whatsoever. Please help my case.

When driving on the highway the steering wheel gets sticky and requires extra effort. It won't return to the center position. Yesterday I almost had an accident and went out of my lane because I was trying to turn right and it took extra effort. The Civic has big safety problem.

Vehicle is stalling and not moving forward when pressing accelerator, resulting in almost getting hit at intersection on [XXX] in Ogden Utah at intersection of [XXX] and [XXX] [XXX] When starting vehicle, the engine turns over and won't start for several attempts and then randomly starts when tapping accelerator. I believe my vehicle has a bad Fuel Pump and needs to be replaced in accordance with NHTSA 23V-858. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The air conditioner does not blow cold air. The heating and fan work just fine, but no cool air. I was told by Honda that if it’s not because of the recall, that I would have to pay, and that just wasn’t feasible at the time.

The steering does not allow for smaller adjustments making it difficult to keep the vehicle continuing in a straight line in higher speeds (highways, freeways). When attempting to pull the wheel, it will not move until more force is used, causing the wheel to jerk and making the vehicle difficult to control. After checking with the Norm Reeves Honda Center, they suggested it was an issue with the power steering rack, however many others report they've had a similar issue but discovered it was the gearbox at fault. This problem has been occurring after around 40,000 miles but the condition worsened over time.

Steering wheel gets "stuck" between 11 and 12 o'clock position and requires additional effort to free steering wheel from "stuck" position. This occurs after driving for several minutes and at moderate or highway speeds.

I have noticed recently that almost every time when I start the car, it stalls for a second then turns on. There were many times that the car will jerk when I accelerate after being stopped at a red light. The car seems to not have as much power as before. I feel as though I have to step on the gas more to keep up speed especially on the freeway. Fortunately, no accidents have occurred. I have not had the vehicle inspected because when I called my local Honda dealership, they said they did not have the parts to replace it. There are no warning messages or lamps. I cannot pinpoint the exact date I have noticed these occurrences but most likely for a few months now since January 2024.

Electronic power steering was checked at Honda Jeff Wyler.Cost me $179.00. They are charging me $3200.00 and I have to fix this because this has been going on for a yr and has become increasingly difficult to drive. I am fixing it this week, with our savings. The steering sticks and then over corrects constantly. I am an UBER DRIVER, so driving others. Someone asked me if I was ok because they saw the jerking and was concerned. No warning lights. I searched Google and saw the beginning of a class action for the 2022 and 2023 civic. But not for 2020. We have to do something before I risk my and others lives. Another concern is that my wife and 2 daughters have 2020 Hondas as well. The cost is extremely high for cars that normally take 6 yrs to pay for. We are [XXX] and don't have an income that can easily afford this. AC on these models is a complete failure. It is well know that 2016 Honda Civics have had issues with the AC system and the source of the malfunction lies in the refrigerant, specifically the R-1234f, which appears to be incompatible with the AC system components. As a result, leaks have developed, contaminating other vital AC components and causing unnecessary strain on the system. Refrigerant leaks have a cascading effect, leading to cross-contamination of other AC components and increased strain on the entire system. The fact that the condenser, air compressor, and evaporator have to be replaced due to the refrigerant leak is a clear indication of the severity of the problem. Other main problem is that whenever you take these vehicles into Honda dealerships with or without warranty they clearly do not go through all the issues. They find the first issue, they patch and send you on your way. You can feel they are have been trained to be money hungry and upsell wherever possible
