I am not sure if you would consider this as safety issue but with the amount of drivers using phones while driving I see it as a major safety issue. When asking the vehicle to read a text message aloud via CarPlay it starts off extremely loud for half a second then goes so quiet it cannot be heard making it useless. Obviously it would be advise for the driver to not pick up their phone while driving to check the text message but that is not reality these days. This has been a problem since the day I bought the car and was told by the dealer they couldn’t do anything to fix it until Honda did a software update. Three years later and still nothing. It seems there are tons of drivers who have reported the same issues but still no fix 3 years later. It’s a major safety issue in my opinion for both the drivers of 2022 civics and innocent drivers who probably have gotten hit or could get hit from a distracted driver because they are picking up their phone and taking their eyes off the road to read a text because the read out loud function doesn’t work. I ask the dealer every time I take the car in if there has been a fix yet and the answer is always no. Thanks for taking this into consideration! Honda has known of this potential safety issues for three years and has done nothing to fix it.

I'm filing this complaint regarding my 2017 Honda Civic Touring (VIN: [XXX] , ~75,000 miles). The AC condenser failed, which Honda covered under an extended warranty (TSB 19-091). However, the AC compressor also failed, and Honda denied coverage, even for goodwill. I believe the compressor failure is a direct result of the leaking condenser with a possible compressor seal leak. Refrigerant loss causes the compressor to overwork and lose lubrication, leading to premature failure. The car mechanic had noted how low our refrigerant fluid was. A compressor should last well beyond 73,000 miles, typically 100,000-150,000+. This early failure, linked to a known condenser defect, points to a systemic manufacturing flaw. Furthermore, the dealership's "blue light" test for leaks might have been inadequate. Honda's TSB 23-012 specifically requires a "calibrated sniffer" for compressor shaft seal leaks, a more rigorous diagnostic that may have been overlooked. This means a compressor seal leak, caused by the condenser issue, could have been missed. Widespread AC component failures (condensers and compressors) in 10th-gen Civics are well-documented, leading to class-action lawsuits. This is not an isolated incident but a pervasive defect. A sudden AC failure affects driver comfort and can be a safety concern, especially in extreme heat, by potentially causing distraction. I urge NHTSA to investigate this systemic issue and compel Honda to cover the compressor replacement, acknowledging the direct link and apparent manufacturing defect. We started having trouble keeping it on the road. Then on the highway, at about 73, I thought the car was going to go off the road. The steering felt sticky, and It's awful trying to hold it straight. You can also feel it when car is parked. Once parked and in park, keep it running and just turn the steering wheel. The steering wheel jerks either direction we turn it. We took the car over to our garage, so they can look at it. We were told it had to with the steering rack. Something regarding a magnet inside the gear box. Our mechanic stated they could not even do the work. With a look online we found a safety recall that my car matches all information, except, the VIN number. So our local dealership can fix it, but the cost is crazy at about $4200. My Civic has 49,000 miles, and to pay that amount is foolish. My VIN number had to have been overlooked. I don't know anyway to fight this, except this website. This car has become very dangerous.

The AC Compressor failed and has been leaking refrigerant. I went to Honda of Chantilly to get it fixed. They contacted American Honda who stated that on my Carfax I have a branded title. I called the Maryland MVA who confirmed that my Title for my car is clean. American Honda has a recall on The Ac Shaft compressor and is refusing to replace it. I ended up passing out because it is 105 degrees here and the AC system is failing. When calling Honda of America multiple times I was told that they cannot do anything because that they believe that the title is branded. I offered to show them proof and they are refusing. They still will not service my car and they will not fix the safety issue.

The steering wheel "sticks." When driving in a straight line or a wide turn angle (like a freeway exit), attempting to make small adjustments to maintain direction results in a jerking motion. The steering wheel feels stuck until it suddenly overcorrects. I have attempted to manage this better by keeping a very firm grip on the steering wheel in order to personally "control" the issue, but it is not effective. It is extremely stressful driving longer distances and on narrow roads. I have difficulty staying in my line and was even pulled over by a state trooper as they thought I was driving under the influence. Quick research on the Internet indicates many 10th Generation Civic owners experience the same issue, and that this may be due to faulty rack and pinion.

There is a steering issue with this car and there are numerous complaints of this online. The steering as become very "sticky". This causes the need for constant steering corrections to be made often times causing over corrections because of the sticky nature of the wheel. This is very unsafe and can lead to accidents on the road. I have read this is an issue with the EPS system on the car.

I would like to request a SAFETY INVESTIGATION on my 2016 Honda Civic - My steering wheel is sticking as I drive. I thought it needed an alignment and have taken it to get an alignment twice (7/29/2021 and 3/4/2025). However, it is still sticking to the point I am scared to drive it as it seems I may lose control of the steering wheel trying to keep it in the road. This is a serious safety issue / hazard for me and other people on the highways. I called the Honda dealership to tell them of my issue, they said it was a SAFETY RECALL and to take it to the nearest Dealership, however upon googling the SAFETY RECALL it stated that there were recalls on this very same issue for the 2021 - 2024 models, it is occurring on models year much earlier than that, as my vehicle is a 2016. I only have 121,608 miles on my vehicle; this vehicle has never been in an accident. It is available for inspection upon request; the sticking of the steering wheel is a safety hazard for me and others on the highways that I travel. No, this problem has not been confirmed or inspected by a dealership or service center. There were/are no warning lights to assist me in figuring out the problem.

Clutch failed at 45000 miles due to early wear. Clutch failed on interstate and resulted in full power loss of vehicle requiring a tow. Honda had previously identified a manufacturing defect with the friction plate as noted in SB-22017 issued in Sept 2022 covering MY 2020 and 2021 vehicles. My vehicle was built in late 2021 and was equipped with the same part as identited as failing in SB-22017. Per Honda dealer, repair of my vehicle is not currently covered by SB and therefore all costs are responsibility of owner. As the SB was issued months after my vehicle and transmission were built, the failed part is likely in MY 2022 vehicles as well.

After turning off the vehicle and locking it the vehicle continuously turns on to accessory mode on its own. On a few occasions I came out to a dead battery or have been woken up more than once to my alarm blaring in the middle of the nite and when I came out to check my vehicle it was usually turned on to accessory mode upon researching the internet I found that many owners with the 2016 and 2017 have the same problem which is a result of a faulty Body Control Module within the keyless entry system. I have taken my car to honda to be fixed it's been 3 days now with no solution on repairs yet.6/7/25

When driving on the highway (over 40mph) the steering wheel sticks making small corrections difficult. It feels like once the steering wheel is left in an orientation for more than 1 second something grabs the steering column and holds it. I’m sure it’s supposed to be a “feature” but it causes me to have to put in effort to make the small driving corrections and they end up looking like I’m swerving inside my lane.
