The wheel becomes sticky/ jerky when driving at speeds over 40 mph and causes overcorrecting. It is worse around bends and makes holding the wheel straight difficult. The stickness is consistently present when on the highways making it incredibly dangerous to drive at these higher speeds as I am constantly having to overcorrect the wheel. The dealer and an independent service center have both said they have been able to reproduce the sticky steering and that it is the steering rack. There is not any warning on my dashboard to indicate this part is failing which is also problematic as I should be made aware before my steering wheel completely freezes when driving at high speeds.

Evaporator on the AC system has failed repeatedly Honda is aware this is a reoccurring issue as they offered a goodwill discount once but I’ve had to replace more than once. This is a major visibility issue as the moisture from the faulty evaporator fogs my windshield making it dangerous to drive and the defogger is much less effective

It was diagnosed by my mechanic as needing a new rack and pinion but my situation matches other safety reports made from what I've been reading about. The steering is very notchy, and jerky; especially, when I am steering to the left the wheel pulls and sticks. I have to jerk the wheel back a little bit to get it to go back to the 12:00 position. When I am driving on the highway I have to make little adjustments in order to keep the car where it's supposed to be, and although nothing has happened, thankfully, in terms of an accident, there have been a couple of moments where I really had to jerk the wheel in order to get it to stay in the lane and it was a really dangerous situation. The car has also been making horrible creaking noises that are similar to the other ones I have read about. No warning lights came on or have come on at all.

There is a problem with sticky steering that is a recall with newer models that seems to be the same with the 2019 models as well. However, they have not issued a recall with the 2019. Per searches on the internet, there a quite a few who have experienced this issue with the 2019 model as well. I have multiples of this vehicle in my family and 2 of them are having this issue currently.

The infotainment and connectivity system in this 2021 Honda Civic EX suffers from critical, persistent hardware and software defects regarding Android Auto. The system continuously and unpredictably disconnects during active operation when wired, and fails to establish or maintain any reliable wireless connection. Due to a personal medical condition (topographical agnosia), I am entirely directionless and completely dependent on real-time turn-by-turn navigation to travel safely. When the infotainment system abruptly cuts out, maps vanish, forcing an immediate, dangerous choice between driving blindly or dangerously diverting visual attention down to a handheld mobile device while navigating traffic. This recurring equipment failure creates a severe, unacceptable safety hazard and driver distraction risk on public roadways. This was undisclosed to me at time of purchase, and actively prohibits me from safely driving the vehicle. Additionally, I am unable to connect wirelessly, which was also undisclosed. This is appears to be a known issue with the model according to internet forms, but was never actively recalled by Honda. The dealership has not been responsive in my request to reprocess a deal on a model that does not have this safety defect.

- #11771943October 18, 2026ENGINE
My 2020 Honda Civic experienced engine overheating and a cylinder 3 misfire (P0303). Two independent mechanics diagnosed a blown head gasket with coolant leaking into cylinder 3. The vehicle underwent a head gasket repair under Honda’s extended warranty. Less than a week after the repair, the engine overheated again while I was driving. I pulled over, waited approximately an hour for the engine to cool, added coolant, and drove to the dealership. The dealership later reported that the cylinder head was cracked near cylinder 4, close to the exhaust valve. When I picked my car up from the dealership, I scanned the vehicle and found the P0303 cylinder 3 misfire code. I am concerned that the engine may have an unresolved problem that could cause it to overheat again, sustain further damage, or lose power while driving. The vehicle is still in my possession and available for inspection. I have an appointment with an independent mechanic on October 24, 2026, to have the engine and cooling system inspected and determine what may have caused the repeated overheating. I am submitting this complaint to bring attention to a potential engine or engine-cooling safety defect and ask NHTSA to consider whether similar problems may be affecting other vehicles.

Description of Incident and Safety Complaint 2004 Honda Civic Airbag Recall I am filing this complaint regarding a safety concern involving my daughter's 2004 Honda Civic and a recalled airbag. Weeks before the accident, we contacted Honda regarding the airbag recall affecting the vehicle. Despite our efforts to address this safety concern, we never received a follow-up call or instructions on when to bring the vehicle in to have the recalled airbag repaired. On Saturday, [XXX], my daughter was involved in a serious accident in Mobile, Alabama. According to her account, another driver swerved, causing her to leave the roadway and strike trees. The vehicles did not make contact with each other. During the crash, the airbag in her Honda Civic did not deploy, and my daughter sustained injuries. The vehicle was severely damaged and is believed to be a total loss. I am deeply concerned that we attempted to address the airbag recall before this accident but never received the follow-up needed to schedule the repair. I want this incident documented and investigated to determine whether the recalled airbag or any related defect contributed to the airbag's failure to deploy and whether the recall had any connection to my daughter's injuries. I am also requesting that the circumstances surrounding Honda's lack of follow-up regarding our attempt to arrange the recall repair be reviewed. My primary concern is my daughter's safety and ensuring that this incident receives appropriate attention so that other families are not placed at risk. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this incident and determine whether further investigation is warranted. The vehicle experienced a sudden component failure while driving, triggering immediate warning lights for the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), high-voltage battery system, and braking system. The failure of the Motor Power Inverter (MPI) causes an abrupt loss of hybrid electric propulsion, a loss of the high-voltage battery charging system, and poses an immediate risk of engine stalling or a sudden drop in vehicle power while traveling at highway speeds. This creates a severe, unpredictable safety hazard to the occupants and surrounding traffic. Honda is fully aware of this systemic manufacturing flaw. The company issued a 15-year / 150,000-mile warranty extension under Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 20- 030 to address defective internal solder joints within the intelligent inverter unit that cause electrical shorts. Despite my vehicle suffering from the exact component failure detailed in the TSB, and despite the vehicle being well under the 150,000-mile threshold, American Honda is refusing to cover the safety-critical repair based strictly on a narrow VIN list exclusion. Because this component defect causes unpredictable electrical and propulsion failure on active roadways, I am filing this complaint to request an investigation into VIN omission for this known hazard.

Sticky steering has returned after the safety recall repair. The steering intermittently sticks and requires extra effort to turn, mostly at highway speeds after driving for a while. No warning lights or messages come on. This is the same defect covered by safety recall 24V744 (Honda bulletin 24-119), and the recall repair (worm gear spring kit and grease) was performed at a Honda dealer in July 2025. The symptom has since come back. The vehicle was taken back to the same Honda dealer. The technician test drove it and could not duplicate the condition, found no codes, and found the wiring to the EPS motor OK. The dealer still recommended replacing the complete EPS steering gearbox under Honda Service Bulletin 23-037, which describes this exact condition (steering effort complaint at moderate/highway speeds with no warning light or stored code). The dealer says there is no warranty coverage and quoted about $2,275 plus tax. A goodwill request has been sent to American Honda and a case was opened with Honda customer service; no decision yet. Safety risk: the car is driven daily by a young driver, and a sudden increase in steering effort at highway speed could cause a lane departure or overcorrection. The recall remedy does not appear to have fixed the defect on this vehicle. The steering gearbox is still installed and available for inspection.

My 2022 Honda Civic Sport is affected by NHTSA Safety Recall 24V-744 (Honda Campaign SJS) for the steering gear. On SXXX, an authorized dealership (Honda City Chicago) officially diagnosed my vehicle with an "INTERNAL FAILURE CAUSING A KNOCKING TYPE OF SOUND" within the steering rack assembly, indicating it requires a complete replacement estimated at $4,680.27. Despite having an open recall for this exact steering gear defect, Honda Corporate (Case Manager [XXX], Case #XXX) formally denied covering the repair, falsely claiming that the problem is not covered and that the vehicle is out of warranty. The vehicle experiences a permanent knocking noise when turning the steering wheel from a stop. This defect has caused severe, uneven, and premature wear on all 4 tires (Walmart purchase less than a year old), completely destroying them and making the vehicle lose alignment immediately after service. Honda is refusing to perform the mandatory safety recall repair. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Power steering rack needs replacement. No damage cause by myself. Later models of the same vehicle have recalls on the power steering rack. The steering wheel will “stick” when driving and i’ll have to use excessive force to turn the wheel even just slightly causing the vehicle to jerk around.

Dear NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint Team, I am submitting this complaint regarding a recurring and unresolved hybrid-system issue with my 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid. Vehicle Information Make/Model: 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid VIN: [XXX] Current Mileage: Approximately 144,000 miles Diagnostic Trouble Code: P1440 Reported Symptoms: IMA warning light illuminated, battery/charging warning light illuminated, and vehicle starting problems. Description of the Problem My vehicle has developed a serious issue involving its Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system. The IMA warning light is illuminated, and the vehicle has stored diagnostic trouble code P1440. The battery/charging warning light is also illuminated. I have experienced a no-start condition in which the dashboard lights illuminate, but the vehicle does not start. Attempting to jump-start the vehicle did not resolve the problem, and the vehicle also would not start when shifted into Neutral. I have contacted multiple Honda dealerships to investigate this problem. However, I have been informed that my vehicle does not qualify for Honda Service Bulletin A20-030, despite the P1440 trouble code and symptoms that appear consistent with the reported issue. This has left me without a clear resolution to the problem and concerned about the reliability and safety of the vehicle. I am particularly concerned about the potential consequences of a hybrid-system or electrical-system failure that could leave the vehicle unable to start or operate unexpectedly. Request for NHTSA Review I respectfully request that NHTSA: Review whether this condition is associated with a broader defect affecting the IMA system or related hybrid components in 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid vehicles. Investigate whether the reported symptoms and P1440 diagnostic trouble code may be associated with the defect addressed by Honda Service Bulletin A20-030. Review Honda's eligibility criteria for the service bulletin and determine whether add INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION
