Engine failed on highway while my wife was driving with 3 kids aged 5 and under. Had to pull over on shoulder. Called GMC roadside and they said they would be there in 2 hours. Then a police officer came by, told her she was in too dangerous of a spot and that the police would be towing the vehicle in 20 minutes if she didn't move it. Police then towed the car while my wife, on the shoulder of a busy highway, had to frantically move the 3 kids and their car seats into a friends car. Got car towed to GMC and they did a full engine replacement. No warning lights, no signs of malfunction, and car had about 4k miles on it at the time.

In September 2023, mere months after purchasing this vehicle, I was driving on the Mountain Parkway in Eastern Kentucky. Traveling the 70 mile hour speed limit, everything in the vehicle shut down, including my ability to use my breaks. Luckily, I was able to safely coast to the side of the road, which left me quite vulnerable as patrons passed at 70+ miles per hour. There were no advanced warning such as lamps, messages, or other symptoms of a problem. I had the vehicle towed to Hutch Chevrolet in Paintsville, KY where they indicated to me that the crankshaft locked up due to a crank bearing failure. They had to replace the engine and I was out of pocket $12,631.79.

On [XXX] driving to Las Vegas Nevada from Garden Grove California, coming down the hill north on [XXX] just 12 miles from state line our GMC shut off and went into Neutral. The Engine completely shut off and we were lucky to pull over on the side of the road with no power. Our Vehicle was towed to Auto Nation GMC in Henderson NV. The Vehicle is still there due to no engines available. My GMC case number is [XXX]. I have agreed to a repurchase from GMC and accepted their offer, however now they are stalling. On [XXX], I was driving approximately 70 MPH on [XXX] when the engine stopped without warning. I had the vehicle towed to Causley GMC where it was repaired. I was on the way home from Causley driving on [XXX] when the engine stopped again. I had it towed back to Causley. The next day they called me and said that the engine was destroyed and needed to be replaced. Both times it stalled I was on the expressway and if I were not able to coast to the side of the road, I would have been in a very dangerous position for me and everyone else on the highway. There was not a warning before the engine stopped, so it was very fortunate for me that I had enough momentum to be able to coast far enough to get in a safe position.

Had to replace an engine due to a main bearing failure, not the connecting rod failure thats being investigated. We pulled into the driveway with zero issue and zero suspect of issue, changed the oil as routine 5k miles, went to start it, and it blew the 400A starter fuse. It friction welded the crank to the bearing when I ahit the engine off. It looked like it flaked the coating off the bearing, then due to the recommended 0-20 thin oil, it didn't have the proper protection for metal on metal. Hoping that the main bearings get added to this investigation, because they are the same coating. Same manufacturer.

I was driving on an expressway in Chicago heading to work at 5am on [XXX] morning. While driving my engine shutdown and I lost engine power to my vehicle while doing 70mph. There was no warning, no warning lamps and no noise to indicate there was any issues. The vehicle just died while I was driving. I had to coast to the shoulder with traffic all around me. Luckily I was able to avoid other vehicles and they were able to avoid me when they realized I was having trouble. Though there was a very close call where I almost got into an accident. When I pulled onto the shoulder the vehicle completely shutdown. It would not restart. I had to call a tow company to have my vehicle towed to the Dealership. Luckily, I was able to find one nearby that was open at that time on Christmas Eve. The dealership mechanics went over my vehicle and determined that I had complete engine failure. The bearings on the bottom end of the engine spun out. I now need a complete engine replacement along with whatever other components were also damage. This incident was a major safety issue. I was luckily that I did not end up in a major accident due to the loss of complete engine power. This is a major issue that needs to be looked into and GM needs to be held responsible for not only my vehicle but all others that this is happening to. My transmission began having problems the day it was delivered to me. After the oil change which they delivered to me at low percentage was completed the motor was ticking. It has had a burning smell and has been in and out of the shop and going back soon. I was on the expressway and the speed declined with error messages on the dash almost resulting in an accident. No one is listening to my concerns and now the motor has a metal clinking noise

The GMC dealer said the engine needs to be replaced and GMC said they would pay for the majority of the cost. But that was 46 days ago and they still don’t have a replacement engine. So I have been stuck without a vehicle

While driving, with no preliminary warning, the engine shut down and I lost power. System showed a "PRESS START" message on the dash. I coasted to a stop blocking traffic on a neighborhood street. After two weeks at dealership, I was notified it was engine failure, and I need a new engine. As of now, engines are on back order and there is no ETA.

The engine started making a rattling sound while on an interstate. The vehicle was able to make it to the next exit before it immediately lost power leaving it on the shoulder of a narrow road just past the exit ramp of the interstate. The vehicle was towed to a local GM dealership where technicians confirmed the engine was no good. This is the second engine that this vehicle has had replaced one at 18000 miles and one at 20000 miles. The engine failed with no clear warning signs, no check engine light, and no obvious causes like low oil.

- #11638837January 27, 2025SERVICE BRAKES, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I took my SUV (Yukon SLT 2023) to the GMC Dealership 4/5 months ago because of 2 recalls, Failed Brake Fluid Leak Detection and Serial Data Gateway Model. The car was repaired according to the dealership. About 2 weeks ago, I entered my garage to auto start my vehicle and my SUV would not auto start. I waited a few minutes and tried to start it again from inside the vehicle and it started. When it started, the engine light was on and on the dashboard, brake system failure was displaying. It was very strange. So, I let my vehicle idle for a couple of minutes and tried to move the car in the garage. The car started jerking when I put it in drive and a message displayed on the dashboard telling me not to drive my SUV over 40 mph. The brake system failure and engine light were still on. It was very strange. I parked my SUV and let it sit. I'm taking my SUV back to the dealership on Thursday. I'm thankful I wasn't on the highway traveling to work, who knows what could have happened. There are massive problems with these vehicles, brakes, engine, computer systems, etc. I do not feel safe driving my SUV. I drive 41 miles each way for work and I don't feel safe driving this vehicle now with all the recalls, including the engine.

While driving at highway speed we experienced a bearing failure that let to an engine replacement. The engine was subsequently replaced for galling from the piston arm. No warnings or engine malfunction notices occurred prior to the incident. It is my understanding there is an investigation into this specific problem with the 6.2L GMC engine. We were fortunately able to exit the freeway and immediately stop the vehicle to avoid any further safety risks.
