In very cold weather the 2.4 engines will blow the rear main seal out and cause rapid oil loss causing engine failure. This is the second time it has happened. First time was February 2022 and the dealer said they havent seen this problem before

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was oil leaking from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the PCV valve was frozen and caused oil to leak from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

It was Christmas weekend, the coldest days our area had seen this time of year in decades. Temperatures were around 0 degrees, with wind chills that were -25 below. The check engine light had come on the day before. My husband was literally driving to the mechanic to have it looked at, when the vehicle completely broke down across the street from his destination. Thank God he was approaching an intersection when it died, and not traveling at a higher rate of speed, where he could have been injured, or others on the roadway around him could have been injured. We had the vehicle towed to our GMC dealership where we purchased it just three years prior. Upon inspection from the mechanic, it was determined that the PCV valve was plugged causing pressure on the rear main seal, which then blew out, bending the valve covers, breaking the timing chain, the water pump chain, and damaging the head gasket. The whole bottom of the motor was covered in oil. Absolute catastrophic damage!! I’m told the cost to replace these parts to essentially rebuild the engine, would start at approximately $4000. A brand new engine would be about $11,000! This entire situation to me is just unbelievable! A five year old GM vehicle, with just 46,000 miles on it! This should not have happened. In researching, I’ve been made aware that this is a common issue with GMC Terrains. In fact there was Technical Service Bulletin made by GM for 2010-2013 models whose PCV valve would clog causing rear main seal blow outs. The holes were so small in diameter, technicians would use a 1/16 drill head to clean it out. This is an obvious manufacturer defect that apparently hasn’t been resolved in the newer model Terrains. How has this not been a safety recall yet?? Shame on you GM! This will be the last GMC vehicle I will own!

I was driving at night with my daughter on a two lane highway with no traffic. There was a sound like a gun shot or explosion in the cabin of the car. My panoramic moonroof literally exploded. The glass shattered but did not fall into the cabin. Had the glass fallen into the cabin it could have cut or blinded us or caused an accident as we were traveling at a high rate of speed. No indicators went off as the moonroof has no such indicator. We pulled over to inspect the damage and immediately saw the glass damage. I have contacted insurance for repair. Upon research it seems that this is quite common for vehicles but not enough for any type of recall or service bulletin.

timing chain issues resulting in a loss of power of the vehicle while driving. The vehicle stalls out and shuts off. Or it will go into power saving mode and slow down to only 20mph. It did this to me one a MAJOR HIGHWAY and I almost was in an accident. Way to many issues with gmc owners and the timing chain on their vehicles

The dealer has not been very familiar with the diesel option in this vehicle. Dealer has found nothing wrong with the engine in this regard. Now the car is out of warranty and will be very expensive to fix according to outside mechanics. The car is experiencing severe BLOW-BY When the oil filler cap is removed while the engine is running, the pressure coming out of the engine is very high. I understand this is a very bad thing to be happening. The car has an engine light on, and it will not go out.

The defroster/ radio control/ heating area stopped working. Upon visiting a mechanic was told they never seen this or heard of this happening before and quoted me over $1,000.00 dollars to fix stating that due to Federal Law they have to give an estimate but this problem not being in their system they came up with an estimate based on parts and labor. Upon searching online I found a recall for this issue dating back to 2009 recall number was 09V489000 but was never informed about this and while looking up my car it’s not listed but being a safety issue should still be current which it is not.

The rear tailgate on a 2012 GMC Terrain has auto lift and close. The tailgate opens, but wont stay open then closes hitting you in the head. The heavy tailgate comes down hitting you in the head, and it takes a lot to hold the gate up. I called the dealer who said it could be the power lift. He said there was a previous recall to fix the same issue, but that part is not holding. I spoke with the dealer and found issued on line. No warning lamps or messages appeared.

The contact owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving in inclement weather at an undisclosed speed, the driver’s and passenger’s side windshield wipers failed without warning. The contact stated that he then received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V165000 (Visibility). The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the parts were unavailable. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a week later and parts were still unavailable. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiper module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was denied reimbursement. The failure mileage was 29,569.

Ok so my 2011 GMC terrain just went over 150,000 miles I bought this vehicle used from a dealership not knowing that there was a big lawsuit or that GMC continuted making this make and model knowing that it had a oil usage problem. So mmm mmm with that being said let's start with my vehicle uses oil, my vehicle idles high low and always rough at times, my service stabilitrak flashes, my motor sounds like a HEMI kock knock knock instead of a 2.4, doesn't matter where I'm at or where I'm going I let off of the gas and my car dies.... Let me clarify on that last one me and my 9 year old daughter we're headed home today let off the gas to go around a curve and a hill and you guesswd it my 2011 GMC TERRAIN died I lost all control and all power had no power steering and no brakes... I just thank Jesus I wasn't speeding and that there was no oncoming traffic cuz I don't think me nor my 9 year old would have made it out ok. So thanks to whatever faulty motor engine or power train GMC has with this make and model putting people's safety and lives in danger due to these issues and only choosing certain VINS eligible instead of all VINS from 2011 GMC TERRAINS in my opinion is just choosing which owners survive because this make and model is dangerous to whoever drives it and to whoever meets it on the highway.

While driving in the rain at about 25-30 mph I noticed a loss of propulsion and before I could turn off the main road the vehicle came to a rolling stop and would not recognize any gears. causing us to block the roadway and had to have it towed home. Took to local car dealer they said it RDCCM abnormal errors like u0422-00 and brake control module errors. Further diagnostics were need to figure out the cause and it possible that the Transmision is having problems now! This should be recalled.

A loud popping noise was coming from the middle to back of vehicle. Upon inspection by independent repair shop a hole in side of transfer casing was found. No warning lamps came on to indicate any problem even after noise was heard. Once problem was determined it was felt that if vehicle had not been taken out of operation when it was and continued to be driven that a possibility could exist of the transfer case gearing becoming bound up and causing loss of control of vehicle due to various wheels possibly binding or maybe locking up. Transfer case has been replaced. The transfer case was disassembled and found to have intermediate shaft bearing (if I have identified it correctly) completely destroyed causing shaft to come out of alignment and all attached gears to mesh incorrectly causing gear damage. In reviewing this site it was noticed that this problem has occurred three to four times over the past few years to other vehicles as well. It would appear that there may be an issue with the bearing associated with the intermediate shaft on the side of the transfer case where the hole in the case is found and could possibly be associated with something in either the design of the transfer case or quality of the bearing itself.

Driving in heavy rain south on the I-5 at 545p. In peak traffic and wipers suddenly just stopped while going 60mph in the carpool lane. As we past the exit for I-405 There was no shoulder to pull off of on my left. I had to cross over 5 lanes until I could safely get off the freeway. Then drive another 5 miles on side streets getting out an manually moving the wipers every few blocks so i could see. I'm female and over 50 yrs old. There was not a place I felt safe to just pull over at night. I stopped at a friend's. I can hear the motor moving but the wipers are not. I do not recall ever seeing the recall on the ball bearings and nor the wiper linkage but found one. However I'm have 72k miles and have owned it for 10 yrs.6 months. So it may not be covered, which I believe is not fair. I almost died and could have caused other deaths just trying to safely maneuver off the freeway, which I felt was safer than sitting on the side of a very dangerous section of the freeway. I know people with cars over 40 yr old that were left outside with over 200k miles and the wipers have never just died. I am the original owner and my car has been garaged for over 95% of the time when not in use. I will call the dealership in the morning but trying to get ahead of this since articles are saying there are no parts. Scared and frustrated.

The contact owns a 2011 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH with the windshield wipers in use, the contact attempted to use the high setting for the windshield wipers and the driver’s side windshield wiper detached and struck the driver’s side mirror. The contact stated that the windshield wiper was replaced. The failure recurred three times. The dealer had not been informed of the failure. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 139,000.

While driving on the highway at speed limit 75mph, the vehicle (without warning ⚠️) suddenly went into (Reduced Power Engine Mode/ Service Stabilitrack) jerked and slowed down to 35mp almost causing a pile up as cars behind and next to me where still driving above 70mph. If not for my quick reaction to turn on emergency lights cars behind me would have hit me. Immediately after I got off the highway I drove the car (at 35mph as fast as it went) to my nearest Pepboys. Here the vehicle was serviced for nearly a month until the problem was fixed. The cost was almost $6500 GMC has failed to notify customers if this potential issue which not only risks the lives of the drivers and passengers of the 2013 Terrain but those driving alongside it. This is not a new issue as I found the testimonies of many other GMC owners tell a similar dangerous experience. Please help! I have detailed invoices of the repairs.

I’m crying out to you because I bought a 2019 GMC Terrain in April of this year with about 14,000 miles. The suv ran great for about 2 months and since then I’ve been dealing with nothing but a nightmare. We’re dealing with a situation where the suv goes into park while driving. We’ve brought the suv multiple times to GMC dealership and even reached out to GMC, and had no luck resolving the issue. Last night, while driving to a family event, the suv went into park while I was driving. This is the 4th time since we got the suv. I’m scared for my safely in this suv, if you could please assist
