The contact owns a 2020 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that after securing her infant child inside the vehicle, his wife started the vehicle and then exited the vehicle. After closing the door, it was discovered that all the doors had erroneously locked causing the child to become trapped inside the vehicle until her husband was able to open the door using a second key fob. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. Prior to the failure, the contact indicated that the key fob auto start feature had malfunctioned and failed to start the vehicle. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000.

The engine shut off while driving. This has happened with my wife and myself over 20 times. I can shift it into neutral and restart the car. Sometimes it takes 2-3 times to start the car (again). One time I was going down a hill on a curve about 30mph and it shut down. I could barely turn the steering wheel manually to prevent me crossing the double yellow lines into another car. This could be very dangerous! I have not gotten around to taking it to a dealer 60 miles away. My car has not been inspected by anyone yet. There were no warning lights or messages or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the failures.

The component that failed are the passenger sliding doors. The actuator has failed. Both passenger sliding doors do not close automatically. Sometimes the door will lock and remain stuck. Sometimes the doors do not lock at all. This poses a safety threat if door can not be closed properly. Vehicle can not be driven until doors close. The failure of the mechanical issue also poses a higher theft risk since I can not lock my sliding doors at times. This is sliding door issue is a well known issue according to research via web. Many Grand caravan owners are experiencing the sliding door actuator problem. YouTube videos has acknowledged this problem. I have been to Ontario, CA Dodge dealership and had my driver door actuator repaired as this was also the cause of my driver door not locking. Dodge denied this is a issue. As of 2021, Dodge has discontinued the Grand Caravan model.

The driver's side door will no longer open, whether automatically or manually. You cannot manually unlock the door from the inside or open it from the inside, which poses a safety issue, in my opinion.

The driver side rear door failed to unlock and open and is available for inspection. This happened about two weeks ago 04/12/2022. When this started, my grandson was unable to get out that door, but fortunately, the other door opened fine. If there was an accident, and the other door got damaged, passengers would be unable to exit without climbing to the front of the van or out the backdoor. I noticed if I manually assisted the unlock process, it would open. Currently it's working but when the door locks either manually or with the automatic locks, it makes a loud buzzing sound. That is very concerning and sounds like it's about to fail. The passenger side door failed last September 2021 to lock and could not be locked manually. We were able to get the repair done under our extended warrantee. The serious problem with the door not locking was you could open the door while the car was moving.

On 4/22/22 a lady hit my van so hard and no air bags deploy. I hit my head on the steering wheel and it never came out. No air bags in my van came out. Also the seal belts didn't hold anyone into place.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The TIPM has failed. It causes the fuel pump to randomly engage and drain the battery. It drained so low the key fob would not work and I needed a locksmith to get inside the vehicle to pop the hood. Our van has been at Lynwood Dodge since February 2022. it took over a month to diagnose and now they can not get the part. The estimate they have given me is around $2,300. That does not count two tows, a locksmith and replacing the fuel pump and a fuel related module around a month prior. The inspection was by the Dodge dealership. To my knowledge no manufacturer representative has checked this vehicle.

Van will shut off without warning while driving on the freeway. Loss of power steering and brakes is a major safety issue! My wife had this happen twice now, both times in a near-miss accident on the freeway. There are no codes.

The passenger door interior handle cracked off on July 3, 2021. I was exiting the vehicle normally and did not use much force to try to open the door. The lack of an operational handle made it impossible for me as the passenger to open the door myself from the inside. What if there was an accident or the vehicle ended up in the water? I would not be able to exit from my side. I would be trapped. I felt very unsafe. There was no warning of imminent part failure. We ordered a replacement part on July 5th and performed the repair ourselves. The broken part was never inspected or documented. We noticed the part was offered for sale in pairs, which was disconcerting. We ordered a pair a few days later as a precaution. Within a week's time, the driver's side interior door handle also broke off. The handles appear to be shiny, silver, and metallic but in reality are incredibly cheap plastic. Both front interior door handles lasted less than 3 years under normal use. A main concern is that in the event of any emergency, in a panic, a person inside the minivan may use a lot of force to attempt to rapidly exit the vehicle. But you can't pull hard on these interior door handles because they obviously are not very strong and break easily. After the driver's side handle broke, we bought an additional replacement part so that we have a pair in reserve for the next time either one cracks and breaks. My vehicle in the middle of the night got on fire and completely burned. After a week without turning my car on . I'm out of town and my neighbors call me at 3am telling me the vehicle got on fire . The fire department arrived and turn off the fire . They said the fire started on the front inner part . No one was near my vehicle. The vehicle got on fire by it self. I lost my car completely 😫 .

Several times in past year after filling the gas tank, shortly after driving away from gas station the engine misfires and stalls. This has been a safety hazard when merging into traffic. This problem is widely noted in forums on the internet for Chrysler minivans, for many other model years including the 2005. The best explanation being given (link follows) is that the vapor/liquid separator valve on top of the fuel tank has failed, a part that is not replaceable--the entire fuel tank must be replaced. Both sliding doors started making buzzing sounds when they were locking or unlocking. Then they would open halfway and then suddenly close- when it closed it would not reopen and we could not exit the rear of the van. I had to wait a month to get it into the dealership, now they are saying that it will be at least a week to figure out what is wrong with the vehicle???? I have read numerous other complaints online regarding this very problem, please have it addressed!!! This has been going on for over a month. It is currently at the dealership for repairs.

The contact owns a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road, where he successfully restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact stated that after the vehicle had been repaired, the vehicle would fail to start intermittently, and would only start after several attempts. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there were no open recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING THE INGNITION SWITCH. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED AN IGNITION SWITCH RECALL THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN DUE TO THE MODEL YEAR. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, AS IT DISPLAYED THE SAME FAILURE DETAILED IN THE RECALL NOTICE.

The rear driver's side door is stuck closed in the lock position. We can't open it at all, even from the outside. This is a major safety issue. Our other door has a very loud buzzing sound when unlocking, so I'm sure we're about to not have any working rear doors at all.

The left side passenger door stopped working and is stuck in the lock position. It will not unlock even manually. At first I assumed this was just something with my van but after checking online I now see this is a massive problem that has affected many people. This issue is a huge safety problem as someone will not be able to exit the van in an emergency. People have said they have complained to both Dodge and the NHTSB for years and no recall has been issued. How is that possible when the problem is so widespread? Do people have to actually die before a recall is finally ordered? Please do what you can to get this problem solved before something bad happens. I’m already prepared to pay to get this fixed but it seems to me Dodge needs to be forced to do something about it.
