Driving south on I-65 during heavy rainfall with windshield wipers on “auto.” Windshield wipers failed and became stuck in vertical position (picture attached). Immediately could not see the road, and had to navigate in heavy rain from far left lane to emergency lane. Could have caused a major fatality given the lack of visibility with no windshield wipers during heavy rain. Windshield wipers remain stuck, and will not go back to resting horizontal position. Wiper motor will click like it wants to engage, but no result, so does not appear to be relay/fuse issue. No warning lights or any indication of a possible failure. Service apt setup to have issue looked at.

I have owned this vehicle for under 6 months. The brakes stopped working and have had to have car towed into shop now twice due to the car not being able to be started due to error codes. When the brake issues occured you would press them and it would barely stop and create a very unsafe situation.

I purchased a 2024 BMW X7 xDrive40i VIN: xxxxx on May 1, 2023. I am pleased with the vehicle except for a serious flaw that in addition to compromising convenience creates a potential safety hazard. The problem resides in the Driving Assistant Professional Package which deviates from the somewhat industry standard practice of allowing the driver to select a mode where the vehicle reads speed signs and/or refers to a location speed limit map. If the option is chosen, software can select the posted speed with a driver programmed offset. As an example, if the vehicle enters a 55 mph zone from a different posted speed with a driver programmed offset of -5 mph, the vehicle will automatically begin traveling at 50 mph. During my vehicle selection process, I drove an early 2023 X7 at a dealer that operated as described above. The 2024 X7 I purchased does not follow the above functionality and if the speed limit changes the driver must push a Set Switch to enable the new posted speed. As an example, if the speed limit changes from 55 mph with a driver programmed +5 mph offset, to 40 mph the vehicle will continue to travel at 60 mph in the 40 mph zone until the driver pushes the "Set" button. If the driver missed the 40 mph sign, a safety hazard could ensue as well as a speeding ticket. Virtually all other manufacturers that offer a similar option allow a mode where a new posted speed limit is adopted automatically without the need to push a switch thereby eliminating the above hazard. I would appreciate an assessment and critique of my above concerns along with any corrective action(s) deemed appropriate. Thank you for your consideration of this matter and please let me know your conclusions. I have contacted BMW several times and no explanations or the opportunity to discuss the concern has been allowed. I can provide the many emails I have sent to BMW if desired.

No parts were replaced. only an update. if this would have happened in traffic , I would not have been able to stop for 1,000 feet.

The Soft Close feature of the car continues to close even if there is a hand or finger in its way, I crushed by thumb while getting out of the car. I am concerned about the safety of the feature especially if there are young kids in the car, the injury could have been much more serious.

- #11515642April 5, 2023LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
On multiple occasions since purchasing my vehicle in 10/22 the lane departure warning system on my 2023 BMW X7 has detected a lane departure and self corrected the steering wheel causing the vehicle to swerve when the vehicle was safely in the lane. The most recent event being 3/31/23. Sewell BMW in Grapevine Tx has attempted to fix this issue multiple times with no success. As of today, 4/5/23, my vehicle is currently at Sewell BMW attempting to fix this issue. Sewell BMW has been provided with a photo of the error message from my vehicle detecting multiple lane departures and turning off the lane departure system in my vehicle. On 3/31/23 I confirmed with management and service that my vehicle “should not be doing this”. Per Sewell BMW, BMW corporate is now involved with this issue. This is a huge safety concern and has the potential to cause an accident, injury, or death if not corrected properly.

When driving preparing to merge on to the highway I hear what sounded like a gun shot. It then sounded like my sunroof was open becuae I could hear the wind along wiht the sound of glass beraking an falling. My sunroof which was closed at the time exploded. The weather and road conditons were normal. The vehichle is available fo inspection if needed. I pulled over, opened the sun shade which was closed at the time of the incident and glass fell into the vehile and onto my wife and I. Had the sunhade not been closed at the time, the glass would have fallen directly on us or into our eyes. I then drove the vehicle home and parked it mu my garage. There were no existing cracks, chips or visible defects to the sunroof prior to this heepening. It has not been inspected by BMW, the police or an insurance represetative as this happened on a Saturday. I have a call into the BMW dealership where it was purchased. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

When starting the vehicle and shifting into drive, "hard" brakes are felt. Brake pedal is "stuck" in a high position and cannot be compressed. The vehicle is extremely unstable - the car lurches forward when brakes are slightly released. Excessive brake pressure is required to prevent the vehicle from moving inadvertently. This persists for 10-60 seconds, then the brakes relax into the normal position and no other issues are experienced. Confirmed NO lights on dash or warnings sounded. This has been experienced 4 times in 6 months. Issue has been reported to dealership. After second occurrence, dealership took vehicle for diagnostics and updated software. After third occurrence, dealership took vehicle and replaced ABS module, with software update. Feedback from BMW is that they think a diagnostic is running at startup and when the vehicle is shifted into drive it is not finished with the cycle. Most recent visit to dealership was late November 2022. Issue occurred again on 12/8 in the afternoon. Vehicle was parked in carpool line at school. When line began moving, vehicle was started and shifted into gear. Hard brake immediately felt (this is after repairs from BMW). This recurrence prompted this submission.

- #11494736November 23, 2022BACK OVER PREVENTION: AUTOMATIC SYSTEM BRAKING
The contact owns a 2023 BMW X7. The contact stated that after placing the vehicle in reverse with the back-up assist feature activated, the vehicle struck the other vehicle behind. The contact stated that the automatic brake assist feature failed to operate as designed, causing the vehicle to strike the rear tire of the other vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle was able to stop. There was no damage to the other vehicle. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was able to schedule an appointment. Additionally, the contact was concerned about water on the screen and a possible electrical fire after the vehicle had gone through the car wash. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed by an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was 200.

Sunroof exploded, just driving down the road, and BOOM! Most of the glass exploded outward, but it was definitely a hazard. The sunroof cover was open about 8-10 inches to let light in, but the glass sunroof was closed.

When applying brakes and releasing the brakes there is a grinding sound. The grinding sound is pronounced when applying the brake and turning the steering wheel at the same time. When I took the vehicle to Checkered flag BMW of Virginia Beach, I was told per BMW engineering it was norm operating characteristic. The Shop Foreman said he had several customers complain about the same problem and duplicated the problem while driving my vehicle. He was the person that showed me the noise was much louder when turning the steering while braking. The report I received from the Service manager named the issue as brake/pad rotor stiction and pad vibration. The invoice stated that the loud noise was not a flaw or defect, but normal operating characteristic. Simply put and 85,000 vehicle grinding noise is okay. I believe there is a problem that will get much worse over time and become a very serious safety issue. So much so that I will take a loss and sell the vehicle.

We bought BMW X7 in Nov.2021 (model 2022), the delivery was late for two weeks because of unavailability of touch screen software but then the vehicle was delivered without software installation for touch screen. Though this was mentioned by the dealer at the time of delivery but because we need to have a vehicle ASAP and that was already two weeks late, we accepted delivery without working of a screen by touch. As BMW X7 model 2022 is very highly advance & sophisticated in term of accessing driving features, we are experiencing too much distraction during driving to access features through other ways BUT NOT BY TOUCHING THE SCREEN which takes driver's concentration and eyes off of the road. In fact now we found this touch of a screen is very, very essential for a judgemental driving. As such, may we request to please bound the manufacturer and or supplier to please INSTALL THE TOUCH SCREEN SOFTWARE. Thank you.

BMW x7 has the start button by the stick shift and other buttons for navigation modes and others and I when not in park at speed of 25 mph if mistakenly you hit the start button it shut off the car losing power breaks and power steering. BMW told me that how it is designed and above 25 mph even if you are at 100 mph if you do it once the car will go into neutral, if you do it twice the car will shut off and you lose everything I think that is very serious This happened to me while driving. We hit the start/stop button and the car shut off, throwing us into neutral and i had to come to a complete stop to restart the car. I became a road hazard while stopped in a busy intersection and luckily we did not have an accident and no one was injured. When moisture gets into the cupholders of a BMW 2021 X7, it leaks into the electrical system for the airbag sensors and seatbelt sensors. This makes them USELESS in an accident. BMW currently has a lawsuit pending against this VERY ISSUE. A small amount of soda spilled in the cupholders by my daughter. It was quickly cleaned and dried- but this caused a leak and lead to the restraint system failure- which renders my airbags in the driver and passenger seats useless- along with the seatbelts. They will NOT work in the event of an accident. This was confirmed by Rick Hendrick BMW Charleston in Charleston, SC. BMW should recall the ACSM and make the area waterproof.
