BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA, VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM
While driving, the information LED screen on the car flickered and went black within a second. Other electric components malfunctioned as well, e.g. radio, air conditioning/heating. Obviously, the cameras and safety systems associated with the screen also did not work. There was no warning that this was going to happen and, without these safety features, I felt that I was at a greater risk. The next day, I took the car to a BMW dealership, and was told that the Head Unit High was malfunctioning due to corrosion. The car has just under 51,000 miles and the unit should have been insulated against any moisture (the car was never flooded). I feel that this is a manufacturing defect that has put me, as the driver when it occurred, at risk.

I have had an open recall for BRAKING since February 12. Both BMW USA and my local deal say they cannot or will not fix the issue. Again, this is for braking. BMW USA has not responded to multiple emails. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. It is on a lease and I wish to terminate the lease with no penalty.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, POWER TRAIN
A drivetrain malfunction warning, chassis warning, auto level suspension was locked, and check engine light was on while driving on the freeway. We made it home safely and parked the BMW X5 45e inside the garage. I plugged in my charger and was not able to charge. Went to start on electric mode/hybrid mode but was not able to turn on. Then I switched to sport mode via gas and engine started but stuttered, and was unable to switch gears from parking to reverse or to forward. Engine continued to shut studded and then engine and electrical completely shut down. I will contact BMW Riverside on Monday.

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
I have recently experienced sudden phantom braking on my vehicle on three separate occasions, following a recall on a brake module that was taken care of at the dealer. Each time this happened at highway speed for no apparent reason. The dealer, BMW of Buffalo has had the car for over a week without finding the problem. They have been in constant touch with corporate, trying to diagnose this. No luck! I will not drive this Vehicle, nor can I in good conscie nce trade it in to another dealer. I could be held liable. I'm wondering what you may have on record since there are reports on the web of similiar occurances

POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
The drive train failed on the car and left the car without power as the transmission disengaged and was revving in drive mode. This happened when I was making a right turn. Oncoming traffic had to dodge us making it a very dangerous situation. The shoulder was narrow so half of the car in the number one lane. The car had been back into the dealership many time for similar issue but this time the car actual hard warning signs flash on the screen and loss complete power and maneuverability. A few different lights came on the dash. Prior to the car completely shutting down, the car would down shift really hard and the computer says the car was trying to go in reverse. I’ve loss all confidence in this car and feel unsafe getting back into it.

BRAND NEW X5 BMW 50E CAME TO A STOP AND ENTIRE CAR WENT DEAD. NO START, LIGHTS, IN TOTAL DARKNESS WITH NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS. DASH SCREEN DID SHOW A DRIVE TRANE MALFUNCTION BEFORE IT TOTALLY DIED. CAR WAS REPAIRED AFTER 2 MONTHS AND REPLACEMENT PARTS MALFUNCTION. CAR STILL HAS ELECTRONIC ISSUES AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES SINCE MAJOR FAILURE. SAFETY ISSUE WITH NO EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING AND VEHICLE WENT DEAD I WOULD HAVE HAD A CRASH.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
On [XXX], while my 2024 BMW X5 was parked and stationary in an uncovered lot in Fort Lee, NJ, a large crack suddenly formed on the windshield. The crack originated at the top edge and extended approximately 8 inches. There was no impact observed, and the windshield had no prior chips or damage. The vehicle was exposed to sustained outdoor temperatures near 100°F for multiple consecutive days due to an extreme heat dome over the region. I suspect a thermal stress fracture possibly related to glass quality or installation. This type of failure raises safety concerns about the structural integrity of the glass. During the final incident the vehicle was again towed to the dealership where it’s been there for over a week and power supply issues persist. They are changing the whole high voltage box due to some unfixable errors.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
On July 23, 2025, at around 10:50 AM, shortly after leaving my community and driving onto a main road, my BMW X5 suddenly experienced what felt like an emergency braking event and completely lost power. I was driving at approximately 40 mph when this happened. It caused surrounding vehicles to honk and make sudden maneuvers to avoid a collision, creating a dangerous situation. I was extremely frightened and shocked, and for a moment I panicked because there were cars all around me. With the help of a friend and my family, I contacted BMW Roadside Assistance. It took nearly five hours before my vehicle was finally towed about nine miles away to the Irvine BMW dealership for service. This incident has caused me extreme emotional distress, sleeplessness, and serious concerns about the safety and quality of the vehicle. I am seeking help and an official investigation into this issue.

SERVICE BRAKES, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Formally reporting a serious and recurring safety issue with my 2021 BMW X5. Over the past five months, I experienced three separate incidents where the vehicle abruptly stopped while driving, each time displaying a red car warning light on the dashboard. The red malfunction symbol was similar to the below image (found online) Description of the Issue: Each of these terrifying safety experiences occurred while the vehicle was in motion—all on surface streets—the car suddenly came to a jarring and immediate stop on its own without my input or applying the brakes. There were no cars close to or in front of me or debris in the road that would require the car to stop to avoid impact. The red car icon appeared on the dashboard (commonly associated with collision warning or automatic emergency braking systems). The abrupt stop caused my seatbelt to constrict, jarring of my neck and ongoing concern that it will happen again. Thankfully, no accident occurred, but the abrupt stops could have easily caused a serious or fatal accident, especially under highway conditions. My Concerns: This represents a serious safety hazard not only to me and my passengers but to other drivers on the road. The issue appears to be a malfunction in the automated safety or integrated systems, possibly involving the forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking systems. My local BMW dealership (Gwinnett Place BMW) has given me an estimate of $480 to perform 2 hours of scans/diagnostics to inspect the vehicle. No loaner car or transportation offered. This is a known issue and documented in online forums and comments. I have lost confidence and trust in my vehicle and feel unsafe. For a $70k automobile that should not be the case. Requested Action: I am requesting BMW investigate this matter urgently, outline next steps at no charge since multiple reports exist of similar incidents, and provide a clear resolution, including any necessary recalls
