First noted dimming low beam headlights in Oct 2019 with ~80K mileage. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms (visual observation during nighttime driving). I replaced the OEM halogen bulbs with Sylvania SilverStar Ultra higher intensity halogen bulbs, but no discernable improvement in brightness and continued to dim over time. In Jan 2021 with ~93K mileage, I purchased and installed LED low beam bulbs which are brighter than halogen bulbs to no avail. There was no significant improvement in brightness. Dimming was now becoming a significant safety issue for night driving. In July 2022 with 110K mileage, I had independent master mechanic (not affiliated with manufacturer or dealership) check LED bulb and headlight unit alignment. The mechanic also tested a few additional bulb types all without success. The mechanic indicated that the low beam reflectors must have deteriorated and only option going forwards is to replace entire headlight units. As it was no longer safe to drive the vehicle at night, I had mechanic replace both headlights with aftermarket units with LED low beam bulbs swapped over from the defective units. I am now out of pocket for the cost of the replacement bulbs, headlight units, and installation charges due to a defective design by Honda. Reflectors should not fail during the lifetime of a vehicle irrespective of warranty and in the case of my vehicle it was well under 100K mileage. As I am sure you are aware, Honda has issued recall in Dec 2014 for 2014-2015 RLX sedans for the same issue. I have the defective headlight units in my possession for inspection upon request.

Despite recently replacing bulbs and cleaning my headlights, my low beams are very dim. I do not feel safe driving at night without high beams on because they are so dim. Other Acura’s have had parts recalled for this issue.

Headlights are so dim they are unsafe for driving. Replacing the bulb does not fix. Acura said I need replace both headlight assemblies because the inside of the projector lens is foggy. Cost quoted is $2255.54

I recently purchased a 14 Acura RDX about a month ago not realizing it would almost cost a possible fatality due to its poorly designed headlight. It was day time when I purchased the vehicle so I was not aware I would only be able to see approx 3-4 feet out at night using my low beams. That issue almost got me in a very horrible situation. A few nights ago I was leaving my nieces 5 year old bday party in a residential area that does not have street lighting, it was then that I turned my low beams on for the first time. I thought something was wrong with them because I could barely see. It was a clear night without rain but I was still unable to see anything further than approx 4ft in front of my vehicle (I cant imagine how dangerous it is when raining). As I started to accelerate to the speed limit I was approaching what looked a shadow of parked cars on the left side of the street. Just as I was approaching those cars to pass, a man walked onto the street from in between the cars, Im assuming to cross the street to get to a house. I did not see him and he did not see me until he was feet away from the corner of my car. I slammed on my breaks and he jumped out of the way in impeccable timing. Luckily, I was not going too fast since it was a residential area however, had he not seen me in that exact matter of time, he could have got seriously injured or killed. This was the first time I ever had to use my headlights, had I known how bad the lighting would be, I would never have drove that vehicle at night nor would I have purchased it. What’s the point in purchasing a vehicle you can only drive in the day and lose your freedom of choice to drive at night. That’s ridiculous. Not to mention, I had my 4 year old daughter with me that night who was also at risk in this situation. We all got very lucky nothing serious happened. So apparently after looking into the issue I discovered this model includes low beam projector lens that fail to function.

From the time purchased there has been a hesitation/sputtering during acceleration. I took the car in during the warranty period and they said nothing could be found. It has continued for 6 years. I have read of similar problems with this model and year.

One week ago 6-20-22, my car started to ‘chug’ and slow down as I was accelerating up a hill on a highway. It was almost as if my car was losing power. When this happened about 10 warnings signs came up on my dash. I drove it directly to the dealership. They replaced my oil saying the pressure was low. All was well for the day after 6-21 when driving it home from dealership. On 6-22 I went to merge onto a local highway from a stop sign with traffic coming at 55-65 mph. My car would not accelerate over 25 and I was unable to pull of. Thankfully I pulled off onto the next exit. I could have easily been rear ended and hurt. This issue since will go away if I shut off my car and turn it back on, but not every time. It is still chugging and losing power when I drive and all the errors on the dashboard are coming up randomly. I drive A LOT everyday for work and this problem is really scaring me knowing I or others could get hurt.

Brake hold disengages and the car starts to move forward often. The manual states it should stay engaged for 10 minutes. Car pulls away at stop lights and towards pedestrians and bikers while brake hold is engaged. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-rdx-problems-fixes-458/brake-hold-issue-977762/

Under heavy acceleration, the vehicle began "bucking" and then lost all power. The check-engine light began flashing. The engine was still running but did not provide power. I Had to pull off the road, shut the engine off and then restart to clear the problem. This has happened twice in two days. The Acura dealer says it is an issue with moisture entering the turbo-charger but did not have any suggestions to correct or prevent this from happening again.

On Friday May 10, 2022, as I was merging from a local road to the highway, I tried to accelerate to complete a safe merge however, the car stated loosing power and jerking, I had to floor the accelerator to get the power needed to avoid a collision with the vehicle behind me. About 1 mile later, the care started loosing power again and cut out. I restarted and continued driving, a few yards later, the car jerked and all the warning lights came on. Given the serious safety issue and the fact that I happened to be near the an Acura dealership, I slowly drove to that dealership. Since it was close to the end of the business day on a Friday, I knew that I'd have to wait until the next day or week to get a report on the problem. I previously filed two complaints on June 19, 2019 and July 28, 2019, on this same issue. I spoke with a representative of Honda several times and they assured my that the problem was fixed after the dealer kept this car for several weeks to work on it. At this juncture, given that this is an issue that could cause serious harm, I am ready to sell this car. Honda needs to fix this.

Headlights seem to be defective. So dim, you cannot see at night. This has been a problem with several years of RDX from what I am reading.

My car has 80,000 miles. My headlamps do not provide adequate light to safely drive my car at night. They have gradually gotten very dim over the past 2-3 years and now I can barely see the road when I drive at night. I work 7AM-7PM so I must drive to and from work in the dark during the fall-spring. The dealer said it is $2800 to replace the headlamps. I do not have the money right now so I am putting it off and trying not to drive at night but at times it is unavoidable. Sometimes I drive with my brights on but that is dangerous to oncoming vehicles.

on 2/3/22, after only 12 hours of owning the vehicle, I merged onto 287 South and upon speeding up and merging into the center lane, I lost all acceleration and my dash lit up like a Christmas Tree. An 18 wheeler was coming behind me in the middle lane at 65 mph while my car slowed down to 25 mph. I was thankfully able to get over to the side of the road without being hurt or even killed. Upon bringing it into the dealer, the codes showed that it was a bad engine coil and spark plug. This was repaired under warranty. Fast forward to 5/16/22, I exited the highway, came to a complete stop at a red light. Upon the light turning green, I went to accelerate and limp mode activated again. I have video of the incident and dealership is unable to find any issues with the vehicle. Both times it was either raining or had just stopped. I have asked that the Intercooler be replaced as part of Bulletin 20-053 however the dealership states my vehicle is not part of this bulletin although it lists the model and year. This is a serious problem that requires a recall. I hope Acura is not waiting for someone to get hurt before they take action!

There is an issue with the windshield. When driving into direct sun the total windshield appears to be pitted and visibility is hampered. I reported this to Southern Motors in Savannah and the service manager photographed the windshield and said he would follow up. I went back about a week later and was told that Acura had him photograph all RDX's on the lot. All of them had a similar issue, including his personal vehicle. I called Acura and they did not appear to be concerned. It appears as the issue is with the material sandwiched between glass layers that is defective (my opinion). On a recent road trip I found it extremely difficult focusing on the road due to the reflections off of the little "pits" all throughout the windshield. I believe combined with normal road hazards (bugs) could cause temporary loss of visibility and potential accidents at highway speeds. I feel that Acura needs to recall and repair these windshields.
