Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 26-2391, released on September 1, 2026, addresses various driver assistance system warning messages and Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in 2021-2023 Ford F-150 vehicles. This bulletin supersedes TSB 26-2206 and provides updated service procedures, including revisions to steps 19-21 and the addition of step 22, along with new figures to clarify connector C316's location. The primary cause for these issues is often a problem with the coaxial cable connecting the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) camera to the IPMA.
Symptoms
Owners of affected 2021-2023 Ford F-150 vehicles may experience one or more of the following conditions, often accompanied by a Ford F-150 driver assist fault C1001:31:
- A "Front Camera Fault Service Required" message displayed.
- The pre-collision assist system becoming inoperative.
- The adaptive cruise control system becoming inoperative.
- The front windshield camera alignment routine failing to complete.
Fault Codes / DTCs
The Image Processing Module A (IPMA) may store specific Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to these issues:
- C1001:31
- U3000:89
- U3000:49
Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions
Technicians will diagnose the issue by checking if DTCs C1001:31, U3000:89, and/or U3000:49 are currently stored or were recently stored in the IPMA. This can be verified through the vehicle's 60-Day Vehicle Health Alert (VHA) or DTC History, accessible via PTS > Connected Vehicle > Connected Vehicle Home. Initial inspection involves checking the coaxial cables between the IPMA and the IPMA camera for loose connections at C900 and C9128 connectors using a wiggle test.
What Owners Should Know
It is important to note that this technical service bulletin, 26-2391, does not alter any existing requirements for component replacement related to RVC (Rear View Camera), Prior Approval, or Warranty and Policy. Additionally, during any repair involving coaxial cables, technicians are warned: "Do not kink or route the cable in such a way that it bends greater than 90 degrees over 30 mm (1.2 in). Sharp bends could damage the cable."
Repair Procedure Summary
The repair process for the Ford F-150 driver assist fault C1001:31 involves several steps, starting with inspection and potentially leading to cable or module replacement. The procedure is as follows:
- Initial Inspection: Check coaxial cables between the IPMA and IPMA camera for loose connections at C900 and C9128. If loose, reconnect. If not, proceed to the next step.
- DTC Verification: Start the vehicle, wait 30 seconds, clear and retrieve DTCs. If C1001:31 and/or U3000:89 are present, proceed to cable replacement. If intermittent, replace both sections of coaxial cable.
- Coaxial Cable Replacement (IPMA Camera to A-Pillar): Lower the headliner and overlay a new coaxial cable next to the existing one, cutting off the old connectors. This new cable runs from the IPMA camera to the A-pillar.
- Headliner Reattachment and Connector Installation: Reattach the headliner, install a new C9128 connector to the IPMA camera, and reconnect the C900 electrical connector in the A-pillar. Ensure old coaxial cable connectors are cut off to prevent reuse.
- DTC Re-verification: Start the vehicle, wait 30 seconds, clear and retrieve DTCs. If C1001:31 and/or U3000:89 are still present, proceed to the next cable replacement.
- Coaxial Cable Replacement (A-Pillar to IPMA): Remove the left instrument panel trim panel, left front scuff plate, left lower cowl trim panel, and insulation between the A-pillar and dash. Overlay a new coaxial cable from the C900 connector in the A-pillar to the C242F connector at the IPMA, securing it with zip ties.
- Feature Code Check and Jumper Installation: Determine if the vehicle has minor feature codes HJGAX, J3KAH, or J3KAB by reviewing VIN build information. Depending on the codes, an additional jumper cable may be required from the C242F connector at the IPMA to either a female C2563 connector at the APIM (for HJGAX/J3KAH) or to pin 5 of the male C316 connector in the engine compartment (for J3KAB).
- IPMA Camera Replacement: If DTCs C1001:31 and/or U3000:89 persist after cable replacements, the IPMA camera (Image Processing Module A (IPMA) Camera) should be replaced.
- IPMA Module Replacement: If DTCs C1001:31 and/or U3000:89 are still present after IPMA camera replacement, the IPMA module itself (Image Processing Module A (IPMA)) should be replaced.
- DTC U3000:49 Resolution: If DTC U3000:49 is present, technicians must download and run the "IPMA - Reset the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) Learned Values" application in the FDRS, followed by the "IPMA - Image Processing Module A (IPMA) Alignment" application. Clear and retrieve DTCs afterward.
- Final IPMA Replacement for U3000:49: If DTC U3000:49 persists after the reset and alignment procedures, the IPMA module should be replaced.
