Symptoms

Owners of 2021-2022 Audi vehicles equipped with the MIB3 infotainment system may notice that their navigation data is sporadically lost. The primary symptom reported by customers is that "Last destinations, favorites, and home/work addresses are sporadically lost."

Diagnosis and Trigger Conditions

This issue stems from a software bug that can cause user data to be lost during vehicle boot-up. Due to its sporadic nature, the problem may not always be reproducible when the vehicle is brought to a dealership for inspection.

Important Warnings for Owners

Audi has provided a critical instruction regarding this issue:

• "Do not replace any components for this condition since this will not resolve the customer's concern."

This means that replacing hardware components will not fix the underlying software bug causing the Audi MIB3 navigation data loss. Dealers are advised against unnecessary parts replacement.

Workaround

While a permanent software solution is under development, a workaround is available for affected vehicles. As of CW 50/21, all affected vehicles have been migrated to a new connect backend that supports "Personalization 2.0".

To utilize this workaround, ensure the customer is logged into their myAudi account and does not have active privacy settings. When these conditions are met, the vehicle will store favorites and other user-specific settings on the myAudi backend system. If data is lost, it should be recovered from the backend shortly after the MMI system powers on and establishes its connection to the myAudi backend.

Repair Procedure Summary

Currently, there is no repair procedure involving parts replacement or immediate software update. Audi expects a permanent software solution to be available in the third quarter of 2022, though this timeline is subject to change. Technicians are instructed to explain this to customers and note that no repairs are necessary at this point.

If you are experiencing Audi MIB3 navigation data loss in your 2021-2022 Audi, it is recommended to:

1. Ensure you are logged into your myAudi account and that privacy settings are not preventing data synchronization.
2. Contact your authorized Audi dealer to report the issue. The dealer should create a PSS (Pending Service Solutions) record to document your concern.
3. Understand that no immediate repair is available, but a software fix is anticipated in Q3 2022. Do not authorize any component replacements for this issue, as it will not resolve the problem.
