Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2025-2026 EX30 and 2026 EX30CC vehicles. The seat belt warning system may not activate the audible warning chime as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
I am reporting an unexpected automatic emergency-braking event involving my 2026 Volvo EX30. On XXX, I was driving uphill on [XXX] near [XXX]. The street was narrow because of parked cars on both sides, and a black SUV was approaching downhill in the opposite direction. I deliberately slowed down and was proceeding cautiously as the two vehicles passed each other. The EX30 suddenly applied the brakes very hard on its own and gave a loud collision/braking warning. The braking lasted only a moment, but the entire car jerked abruptly. There did not appear to be an imminent collision, and I was already slowing and driving cautiously. I am concerned that an unexpected hard-braking intervention like this could create a safety hazard, particularly at higher speeds or if another vehicle were following closely behind.
