I own a 2014 Volkswagen Passat. I received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V834000(Air Bags) dated December 2024. For the past 6 months, I have attempted to address this issue but the part to do the recall repair has not been available available. In fact, I even brought my car into the dealer today, advised that the part was available, but in fact it was not. SIX MONTHS! Is this a critical issue or not? The dealer was contacted. The manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair.

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that shortly after refueling the vehicle and driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the road and the vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was diagnosed on scene by an independent mechanic with metal shavings inside the fuel lines. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that a high-pressure fuel pump and fuel system replacement was needed due to metal shavings. The vehicle was not repaired due to the costs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.

We just purchased this vehicle for my daughter and when I called the manufacturer about scheduling to perform Recall # 24V834 they said the parts were on back order. I asked when they may have the parts and they claimed they didn't know, but the recall wasn't something I would have to worry about unless the air bag light came on. I asked what if in an accident and the air bag deploys would it cause harm and they said it wouldn't. I am not so sure considering the safety risk was an inflator explosion that may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or occupants resulting in serious injury or death. The manufacturer claimed that they type the recalls up in a scary way to scare you into getting the recall done. This is not enough for me when it comes to my young daughter or any passengers safety in the car. I contacted the VW dealer in Fate TX and that is the best place for us to get the recall done. I am requesting that something to be done to expedite this part or parts for my daughters vehicle to get this recall completed in a timely manner before something bad happens. Thank you!

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
There was a recall reported by the manufacturer, Volkswagenm in 2008. There were multiple Fuel System issues: A Heat Shield that may contact the exhaust system and result in a vehicle fire; a fuel leak from a fuel line or fuel tank ventilation valve, in the presence of an ignition source, can lead to a vehicle fire. In 2008, my car was inspected and the recall was deemed "complete." However, the car was only 4 years old at the time and no repairs were made. Only a visual inspection was done. I bought the car used 6 years ago, and it has been diagnosed as having a defective fuel tank ventilation valve. VW should pay for the parts and labor to have this fixed because it was never fixed. I've been told there's no statue of limitations on recalls. VW claims that because the recall was deemed "Complete" that they "fixed" the issue but they didn't.

I contacted two separate VW dealers since then and both said they would get back to me and now we are almost in June and it is my family's main transportation vehicle and I have two babies under [XXX] and with the temperatures rising more and more it's extremely stressful when my wife and daughters are in the car with me. While backing into a parking spot there was a crunching sound in the steering column. Following this noise the air bag light came on and all steering wheel control buttons nonfunctional including the horn. I reached out to a Volkswagen dealer as I had seen recalls for the clockspring, I was told my vehicle was not included in the recall. This is a 2017 Passat and had approximately 130,000 miles when this occurred. The closest dealer is over 2 hours away, and the service department is only open Monday-Friday.

Received Important Safety Recall letter dated December 2024 from VW. NHTSA: 24V834. Safety Recall 69EG. Today is May 16th, 2025. Dealers have no parts, BUT this is a safety recall. How can this be remedy asap, before accidents occurs? No ETA as to when parts are available according to 2 dealership I've contacted. Thank you for your help.
