POWER TRAIN
In late September 2026, at approximately 80,500 miles, my 2022 Toyota Camry SE (2.5L 4-cylinder, 8-speed automatic transmission) began making a whine under acceleration. The whine starts around 15 mph and fades around 65–70 mph, gets louder the harder I accelerate, and stops when I coast or shift to neutral. When I lift off the accelerator, it continues for about one second with a pulsing sound. Steering and a tire rotation do not change it. On October 13, 2026, at 82,206 miles, a Toyota dealer test drove the vehicle and confirmed a whining noise from the transmission on acceleration. The dealer noted “possible internal wear from bearing,” found no trouble codes, and recommended replacing the transmission assembly at a cost of $8,015.09. At my request, the dealer also performed a transmission drain and refill with genuine Toyota WS fluid the same day, even though Toyota’s maintenance schedule does not require transmission fluid replacement under normal driving conditions. The whine was unchanged afterward. No warning lights or messages have appeared, and the transmission has not slipped. However, owners of the same and similar Toyota models with this 8-speed transmission have reported sudden loss of power while driving after similar symptoms. I am concerned that the transmission could fail without warning in traffic or on the freeway, putting me and others at risk. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. I have opened a case with Toyota. The vehicle and transmission are available for inspection upon request.

VISIBILITY/WIPER
Driver side windshield wiper constantly streaks on the return stroke despite replacing the wiper blades several times. This creates difficulty seeing when raining. I have tried several different brands (including Toyota OEM) wiper blades and they ALL streak on the driver side directly in the line of sight. This apparently is a known issue and I would like it fixed but the dealer will not do anything about it.

Sudden Unintended Acceleration: I had been out doing errands in the morning. I returned home, pulling up in front of my townhouse which is on a cul de sac. After gently coming to a stop, I planned to back up just a bit to park my car along the curb. (I did not have my foot on the accelerator, as the car normally goes gently backwards when you put it in reverse.) When I put it in R, the car accelerated backwards and crashed into a car that was parked along the curb about 15-20 ft behind me. I instinctively put the car in D to stop going uncontrollably backwards. The car shot forward; the brakes did not work. The car was out of control, making very loud revving sounds and loud screeching sounds from slamming on the brakes. Somehow, it did finally come to a stop by itself ¾ of the way around the cul de sac. Wanting to get out of the middle of the street, I instinctively turned the car back on and drove it slowly to my driveway. The car functioned normally. I could have badly injured or killed someone; in my cul de sac, there is often a lot of activity involving people of all ages, including children and babies. A police report exists. The car I hit was totaled. I had the car towed to my mechanic. He said the car didn’t throw any codes. He inspected it, but did not find anything wrong with it. The local Toyota dealership refuses to touch it because it’s been in an accident. I called Toyota (Plano TX) on 10/5: filed a claim with them on 10/7. A 3rd third-party inspector from Engineering Analysis Associates inspected the car and did a Bosch download from the black box on 10/14. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. I don’t absolutely know which component or system failed or malfunctioned. I am wondering if it’s a "ghost" software glitch (see Bookout vs Toyota litigation). Something similar happened to my husband in April 2025 when he was parking in a parking lot. The car is available for inspection upon request.

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at approximately 20-25 MPH over gravel, the steering wheel locked, preventing steering control. The vehicle crashed center mass into the corner of a building. The air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Smoke was present following the crash, rendering the vehicle undrivable. The vehicle was towed to a service center. The driver and passengers sustained muscle injuries and received medical treatment from a Doctor. The insurance company inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

I have experienced on multiple occasions a delay or lack of immediate power when pressing the gas pedal from a complete stop. I have almost caused an accident because of this delayed acceleration when I’m trying to turn or merge into traffic. The car seems to do it randomly so there’s no telling when it’s going to actually accelerate or have the delay, but it has happened frequently enough that I am concerned. My car has barely hit 30,000 miles so I highly doubt that it would be linked to normal wear and tear of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact stated that the dealer had sold the vehicle in March 2026 without disclosing that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V869000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). The contact felt that the dealer jeopardized the family's safety by failing to disclose the recall prior to purchase. When the vehicle was later taken to the dealer for routine maintenance, the dealer informed the contact of the recall and performed the repair. The contact checked the Toyota application and verified the notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V869000 (Hybrid Propulsion System). The manufacturer was notified of the issue by telephone.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding a transmission failure in my 2019 Toyota Camry. I purchased this vehicle from a local Ford dealership in an as-is sale with approximately 133,000 miles. Only three months after purchase, the transmission began failing while I was driving. The vehicle stopped shifting gears properly, began slipping and jerking, and ultimately lost all ability to move forward. This occurred while driving on the street and created a potentially dangerous situation due to the sudden loss of vehicle propulsion. The vehicle currently has fewer than 140,000 miles. I have been quoted approximately $8,400 by AAMCO to replace the transmission. I was told the transmission cannot be repaired or rebuilt and must be completely replaced, with only a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty on the replacement. I have heard from multiple sources that transmission problems may be a known issue affecting this model. I am concerned that a potentially widespread defect could cause other vehicles to lose propulsion unexpectedly while traveling in traffic or at highway speeds, putting drivers, passengers, and others on the road at risk. A major transmission failure only three months after purchasing the vehicle is extremely concerning. My primary concern is not the repair expense, but whether this failure reflects a broader safety defect that could affect other 2019 Toyota Camry owners. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate reports of transmission failures in 2019 Toyota Camry vehicles, determine whether these failures present an unreasonable safety risk, and take appropriate action if a safety-related defect is identified. I am submitting this complaint to help ensure that other drivers are not exposed to a similar potentially dangerous loss of vehicle propulsion.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
The contact owns a 2023 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while attempting to exit the driveway at an undisclosed speed, the engine unexpectedly revved, and the vehicle accelerated forward, striking a trash bin. The contact stated that depressing the brake pedal caused the engine to rev higher. Upon shifting into Reverse (R), the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated at a high rate of speed, striking and knocking down three trees on the property. Depressing the brake pedal again while in reverse(R) similarly caused the engine to rev higher. The collisions resulted in heavy denting on all sides of the vehicle and significant undercarriage damage. The vehicle was towed to a body shop. The failure mileage was 12,000.

Was in a major car accident on freeway a van hit me from behind going 65mph or more made me spin into oncoming traffic & was hit again from the front side head on either side car going 65mph or plus. Airbags did not deploy. I’m lucky to be alive. Major head concussion, neck, shoulders, whole back, arm, wrist, my knee, my hands. More than month now out of work, dizziness, random unconsciousness just terrible

I was hit in the driver side back quarter panel by the back tire by a semi and it pitted us and spun us in front of the semi, which drove down the road with drivers side of car against his grill and then once he started stopping, we turned and hit his driver side door and then spun three times before coming to a stop. No airbags went off in this collision.

Refused a warranty repair on a nearly new Camry. The driver's side sun visor on my Camry failed and wouldn't stay up, which blocked my view of the road. A Toyota dealer in Kansas City had already inspected it and ordered a replacement under warranty before I moved to Atlanta. I booked a service appointment here on 10/10/2026 to have it fixed. The service department declined to cover it. I was told they had no record of the Kansas City visit, and that because I had used a sticker to hold the broken visor up so I could drive safely, my warranty was void. The sticker went on after the visor had already failed. It didn't cause the problem. No one offered to look up the prior visit by VIN, contact the other dealer, or check with Toyota before turning me away. I've opened a case with Toyota corporate. This was at Toyota Cobb in GA.

SAFETY RECALL - 25TA15 (Interim Notice 25TB15) - Certain 2025–2026 Model Year Camry HV, Certain 2025–2026 Model Year Corolla Cross - Loose Inverter Bolt Recall Code: 25TB15 A bolt inside the inverter in the hybrid powertrain can become loose and could lead to a loss of motive power or could lead to a fire when the vehicle is on. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of a crash or an injury. Complaint -- This recall issue was made known since 12/2025 and there is still no fix for my vehicle.

The contact owned a 2011 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, the vehicle hydroplaned and the front driver’s side crashed into the highway median, and the vehicle spun around and the rear passenger’s side crashed into a highway guardrail. The air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Due to the failure, the vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow yard before the insurance company took possession of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the insurance company's designated location, where it remained. The contact had a strained neck, a sprained right ankle, and a bruised left knee. A female and a male passenger inside the vehicle sought medical attention for their injuries. The female passenger had whiplash and bruising to the right leg. The male passenger, seated in the rear driver’s side of the vehicle, sustained cuts to the left side of his back after the rear windshield glass shattered upon impact. The Police were called to the scene, and a Police report was filed; however, the contact had not obtained a copy of the report. The vehicle had been deemed a total loss. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

I own a 2010 Toyota Camry, and the dash in my car is outrageous and ridiculous. You can not lay anything down on my dash because if you do it's not coming off. It's so sticky, that not only does it create a glare and interfere with your visability, any bug that gets in your vehicle sticks to it and makes the car look really bad and there is no cleaning it because if you try your dash will pill off. So it's impossible to clean. Not only does the sun affect it but driving at night with other vehicles lights shining on the windshield also makes it hard to see. I believe the NHTSA should do something about this, it could cause vehicles to crash or cause injury or possible death. It should be fixed before it has a chance to cause any injuries or deaths. This has obviously been a complaint about certain models of camrys for quite some time now.

My 2018 Toyota Camry LE went into Limp mode while drive on the highway causing jerking while driving and tons of error codes on the dash, and issues with safety systems shutting off and accelration. After towing to a dealership, dealership gave me the following description of the defect: Coolant is coming through the cylinder walls due to a hairline fracture in the cylinder causing 2 of the 4 cylinders to misfire and coolant to mix with usual contents. We aren't able to identify where the cause of this problem is but it makes the most economical sense to replace the engine with a lower mileage engine and replace the neighboring parts to support the less old engine. I was quoted $8300 approximately. the same vehicle just a few years older are recalled already for the exact same thing - NHTSA Recall 20V064000. The NHTSA Recall states: "The subject vehicles are equipped with a 2.5L 4 Cylinder engine (A25A) and may have been produced with engine blocks containing higher porosity levels. Higher levels of porosity could create cracks in the cooling passages, resulting in coolant leaking internally and/or externally. This may lead to engine noise, engine smoke, warning lights/malfunction indicator illumination, an audible chime sounding, and/or, in some cases, engine overheating and possible internal mechanical engine damage (e.g. seizing of internal engine components). If engine overheating or internal mechanical engine damage were to occur on involved conventional gasoline vehicles, a vehicle stall while driving at higher speeds could occur without prior warning to the driver, increasing the risk of crash."
