On [XXX], at approximately [XXX]., I was involved in a low-speed, front-end collision while making a left turn from [XXX] onto [XXX]. I was following a Toyota Tacoma that stopped suddenly for a pedestrian near the crosswalk. I immediately applied what I believed was maximum emergency braking pressure to my brake pedal. The pedal felt firm, with apparently normal resistance, but I did not experience the deceleration or braking response I expected. Despite my braking effort, my Murano continued forward and struck the rear of the Tacoma. My VIOFO dashcam recorded the incident, including GPS-indicated vehicle speed and time. The displayed speed was approximately 14 mph at impact. I experienced no noticeable strong deceleration before the collision. I did not observe a forward-collision warning or automatic emergency braking intervention. I subsequently had the vehicle examined by a collision repair facility on [XXX] and Tony Nissan in Waipahu on [XXX]. Electronic scans did not identify braking-system fault codes. Tony Nissan performed an approximately 18-mile road test and reported that it could not reproduce the braking concern. Its inspection included checks for hydraulic leaks, brake-fluid level, and brake-booster vacuum leakage. The dealership also found the front brake pads worn to approximately 2 mm. Although the braking problem has not been reproduced or diagnosed, I remain concerned that an intermittent mechanical, hydraulic, or electronic braking malfunction may have occurred during the collision. The vehicle previously received a replacement ABS actuator and electronic control unit under Nissan campaign R1809 in February 2019. I have opened a case with Nissan Consumer Affairs, Case No. [XXX]. Nissan has instructed me not to repair or alter the vehicle pending further contact. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
