SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
While I’m driving, usually while I’m on the freeway, my 2021 Nissan Kicks will think I’m about to get into a head on collision and try to brake for me. I get warnings that come onto my dash and my emergency brake light will come on. This happens about 2-3 times a week and seems to be happening more frequently. My car is still under warranty and I’ve taken it into the dealership three times now and they can’t seem to find an issue.

What occurs is the driver side door will not function properly when ambient air temperature is 25 degrees or below. When this first occurred, I reported the issue to the Priority Nissan dealership of Chantilly, Virginia. I had to climb over the center console in order to drive the car to the dealership and into their service bay (that was heated). The service manager tried to open the driver side door to let me out but the door would not unlock. Within two hours the service manager called and informed me the driver side door opens and works fine. When I arrived at the Priority Nissan dealership, I spoke to a sales manager and shared what had happened and he said it happened to him as well. On December 30, 2022, I called NISSAN service to report what I have been experiencing since December 24, 2022, when I brought my car in for the door not unlocking, as of yet the service manager has not returned my call. The NISSAN KICKs is a new car and if it had caught fire the safety issue is obvious. Would I have had enough time to escape from a burning car fire or for some other reason. God forbid if I had been involved in a car accident and the car caught fire and I needed to be pulled from the NISSAN KICKS to be saved. Sorry apologies just don’t get it. I hope you take my letter to the NHTS as a serious safety concern. thank you for listening to my concern. Purchased vehicle new and the dealership delivered it to the house the mileage was under 300. Drove the car approximately 100 miles and while driving on the Interstate on the return trip there was a slight wind under 10 mph. The vehicle was difficult to control as the slightest wind causes the vehicle steering to drift over and the steering is so temperamental that the slightest correction can make you overcorrect. Driving in windy conditions is very difficult and you have to hold the steering wheel tightly to keep the vehicle from leaving the roadway. Passing trucks also cause the vehicle steering to be a problem. I do not know if it is due to vehicle weight, the design of the body, or the steering system. I have a friend with a Versa that is almost identical to my car and she experiences the same problem with her steering in the wind - her solution is she never drives if there is the slightest wind. I wish I had not purchased the vehicle unfortunately it had already been a week or two since purchase when I drove it more than a mile from my home. It now has almost 5000 miles on it and with the recent storms and 20 mph winds, it is not safe to operate on any highway or interstate due to the steering issue. The car was bought outright from the dealership

We just leased the vehicle on 12/1/22. It’s only been driven 3 times. I was driving the car on 12/9/22. I had just gotten on the highway and when I got up to 50 mph the hood flew open. The hood and both front quarter panels are damaged. I’ve looked online and this has been a known and ongoing issue with multiple models including the Altima, Pathfinder, Rouge as well. The dealership has had the vehicle since day of incident and has not reached out to us yet.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER, ENGINE
Was driving on the interstate when all of the sudden any time I would hit the accelerator it would start to brake. I went from going 60 to 45 and realized I had to pull over and was able luckily to get to a median to call AAA. Once i got to the median my battery and oil change light appeared and AC stopped working. I attempted to turn my car off and it would just automatically restart. I did that three times and on the third time the lights turned off and ac was back blowing cold but still couldn’t move my vehicle. AAA then towed it to their facility and said it was transmission issues and he had never seen something like it before since no sensors were notified to the issue. It’s now being towed from the AAA center and is being taken to the dealership closest for repairs. I’m still waiting to hear back from Maus Nissan about my car and where to go from here. It’s very troubling to be traveling at such a fast speed to nothing at all and luckily I was able to pull over to safety.

The contact owns a 2022 Nisan Kicks. The contact stated that the parking assist would alarm the driver that they were coming close to something or someone. When the power assist was activated, the vehicle would suddenly stop as if the vehicle was about to crash into an object or a person. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal grinding noise coming from underneath the driver’s and passenger’s side front-end. The contact also stated that while in reverse or on an incline, the vehicle was making a popping sound underneath the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to identify the cause of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired and the failure persisted. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION
Sometimes, the blind spot warning doesn't work. I need to re-start the car to make it works. After I filling gas, the car can't move for 7 seconds even though the car is accelerated and the clock that measures the rotation go up to 4 - 4.5 and when it starts moving, this clock comes to 2. Also after a stop, the car doesn't move , doesn't accelerate, it has to wait for 7 seconds and starts moving slow for more few seconds. this problem was shown more than 10 times. One time, I accelerated a lot, and the car started jumping like a "crazy horse" . The battery was dead twice. it was recharged and works fine.

The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated while driving at 65 MPH, the steering wheel turned all the way to the left independently. The contact stated that upon steering, the steering wheel veered to the right and he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle veered to the right and crashed into a concrete barrier. The air bags deployed. The contact was transported to the hospital with the assistance of the emergency units. The contact sustained a fractured back and had surgery. The contact also sustained pain in the lower back and was currently hospitalized. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact did not recall whether the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 300.

SEAT BELTS, LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING
On June 16, 2022 I suffered a medical emergency and the vehicle drifted out of the lane into the guardrail to the right. No lane departure warning sounded or alerted me. The vehicle grazed the guardrail on the passenger side then veered left across the other 3 lanes with no warnings or alerts sounding. The seatbelt did not lock up during the guardrail incident or upon impact of the vehicle into a hillside where the vehicle eventually came to a stop. When I fully came to, I saw the gearshift broken off and I had a broken nose. Several other items from the dash were also broken off from my face hitting them. I suffered multiple injuries, one of which required surgery. I have a door panel shaped hematoma on my left hip, however all the medical records state "restrained driver" and can be provided upon request along with any other reports. The vehicle is currently at Monroe's Collision Center awaiting a determination on the extent of the damage. Several, if not all, airbags deployed. I had my car for 17 days. The windows are currently down and the vehicle will not start.

The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, she pulled over and put the vehicle in park. Once the vehicle was parked, it continued to roll forward. The vehicle hit a concrete light pole in the parking lot and damaged the driver's side front fender and headlights. No airbags deployed. There were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel which contact was aware of. There was a police report filed. The contact drove the vehicle safely home; then towed it to the dealer the following day. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 9,000.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Brand new vehicle purchased on 12/28/21. Forward Collision Warning System - This system has activated twice when there were no other vehicles near mine. Then on 3/15 returning home from an out of town trip it appears that it activated again with no other vehicles within distance and then my vehicle completely shut down and every light on my dash came on and a malfunction warning for it. The vehicle was towed back to the dealership where I bought it. The dealership is also where I am employed. The diagnostic has been completed and it threw 6 codes. Safety could be impacted in several ways. The vehicle started to slow and there was no power to accelerate. The car could have cut off in the middle of the highway broke down also putting other vehicles in danger of hitting the car and causing injuries and vehicle damage. I was driving alone at midnight when this occurred. If I did not have AAA I would have had to walk miles alone to the nearest exit possibly putting myself in danger. If this function would have failed when it was needed accidents and injuries would occur.

Brand new 2022 Nissan Kicks S, I was driving home from picking it up at the dealership with only 14 miles on the odometer when I was stopped at a red light and the car shuddered and stalled. The battery and oil dash lights came on. I had to place the car into Park, turn it off, and turn it back on to get it moving again. Once restarted, the dash lights went away and the car ran fine. There were no indications prior to the event that anything was wrong or that this would happen. This was incredibly frightening as I was worried traffic behind me would rear end me, even with the hazards on. I am taking it in to be inspected by the dealership this weekend.
