We were going down the highway when the engine suddenly stalled. We had to shift lanes during heavy traffic without assisted steering or braking and no way to accelerate. This almost caused an accident just to get the car off the main traffic lanes. We were able to coast out an exit where the car came to a stop and had to be pushed of the road. When trying to restart the engine, it immediately seized. There were no warning lights or any indicators before the incident. The engine had been running perfectly fine before with no abnormal oil consumption, overheating problems or any other issues. The car was towed to a shop where the next day a terminal engine failure was diagnosed and we were informed that the engine would have to be replaced for about $8,000. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

I was driving at approximately 20-25 mph when both side curtain airbags deployed. There was no collision or sudden stops. There were no warning lights or symptoms before or after the incident. My battery had been replaced at a local shop 4-5 hours prior to the incident. My child was in the car in her car seat and appears to have no apparent issues following the event. The hearing in my left ear is deteriorated and I have a ringing sound and it makes a distortion sound when the noise levels reach a certain level.

The contact owns a 2007 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, she was informed that smoke was emanating from the vehicle, after which she observed flames emanating from the engine compartment on the driver's side. Bystanders were able to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher. Local emergency services arrived. The ABS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the wiring harness. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had already been repaired. A fire report was filed. A police report was not filed, and no injuries were reported. The contact also stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the hood suddenly unlatched, opened, and smashed into the front windshield. The contact was able to safely pull to the shoulder of the roadway, and attempted to close the hood, but the latch failed to remain secure. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the secondary hood latch assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V389000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had already been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Since shortly after buying the van we have been getting airbag warning lights. Just about every part of the system has been replaced, but the airbag light still comes back on. Just got the van back from the dealer today for the 9th time, and after about an hour of driving, the light is back on again.

July 5, 2024 Engine started to make a noise, had inspected at a local repair shop July 9, 2024, they diagnosed it as "crack in the front valve cover due to what seems to be something internal to engine coming apart. This vehicle is going to need a new engine." No warning lights were on, no service needed lights. yes, available currently for inspection as long as I don't trade it off. safety could have been at risk if it seized up while on interstate Insurance said it wasn't covered and have not warranty insurance no symptoms, no warning lights, nothing. Driving home on Friday the 5th when 5 miles from home it felt like it was loosing power and didn't want to accelerate. then I noticed the noise. Still no lights on dash

The contact owns a 2007 Kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ESC and ABS warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that on several occasions, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the brake light independently activated while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed stop light switch. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched and discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V088000 (Electrical System, Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the recall was not associated with the VIN. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

I was driving my 2018 Kia Sedona on [XXX]. I had all 4 of my kids with me in the van, I heard a click, click, click, then the car went dark, in the middle of the road no warning nothing. There was no light or anything that came on as a warning. It just died. It was scary to go through that with my kiddos. We are devastated as the car is only 6yrs old and it wont work at all. Had van since new oil changed on time check engine light came on for cam shaft sensor crank sensor replaced all sensors and van still runs like crap ive been told by many shops to take to dealer and tell them… there are many other cars with same motor getting recalls but this van doesnt get any??? Can you help us out… the van well taken care of and taken to dealers for oil and tires and etc they never state nothing wrong

The engine seized suddenly and put my family in danger. There are recalls on other kia engines and it is clearly an issue but KIA is not taking responsibility for it and has told us we must pay 13K for a new engine or they will give us $500 to "take it off our hands" --- this is wrong. We have kept the vehicle well-maintained and have all the records to prove this. It has just over 100,000 miles on it and we still owe money on it. KIA is putting families in danger but not acknowledging that there is a possibility of engine failure in the Sedona van. There have likely been deaths and injury as a result of this and yet, nothing is being done! Please hold KIA accountable and insist they do a nationwide recall for all engines that are affected by this defect.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night going downhill, the headlights to the vehicle shut off inadvertently and the contact to almost struck a pedestrian. The contact stated that the vehicle struck a curb, and he became disoriented. The air bags had not deployed. A Police report was filed by the Sacramento Police Department. The contact later sought medical attention with their primary care physician. The contact also stated that the rear driver’s side sliding door failed to lock or unlock. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who was not able to diagnose the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Airbag warning light stays illuminated when the vehicle is on. KIA mailed me a 2017-2018 MY KIA SEDONA VEHICLES ILLUMINATION OF AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY EXTENSION letter. Dealer (Dyer KIA, Lake Wales, FL) refuses to honor the warranty. Made complaints online to the dealer and KIA and they refuse to fix my vehicle. The airbags do not work.

KIA SEDONAS HAVE KNOWN HEADGASKET ENGINE COOLANT LEAK ISSUE THAT CAN RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE AND IS DANGEROUS. ENGINE COOLANT LEAK HAD BEEN CONFIRMED BY SMELL INITIALLY, AS WELL AS WHITE SMOKE, LOW COOLANT IN RESERVOIR. THEN TOOK TO 2 SEPARATE MECHANICS WHO BOTH VERIFIED ENGINE COOLANT LEAK. FIRST SAID DID NOT FIX THESE. THE 2ND MECHANIC REFUSED TO FIX DUE TO DIFFICULTY REMOVING THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE TO REPAIR, WOULD NOT TOUCH IT. GOT LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM KIA DIRECTLY SAYING "WARRANTY EXTENSION ON 2015-2016 KIA SEDONAS WITH ENGINE COOLANT LEAK" "TAKE TO DEALER IF ABOVE SYMPTOMS, AND WILL BE DIAGNOSED AT NO COST, FIXED AT NO COST ETC"... KIA OF ASHEVILLE, NC DEALER, WANTED MONEY TO DIAGNOSE DESPITE SHOWING LETTER. PAID THEM. THEY VERIFIED ENGINE COOLANT LEAK W RELATIONSHIP TO HEADGASKETS. NOW WANTS APPROX $1000 TO "LOOK INTO IT MORE" AND KIA CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NOT SUPPORTING DEALER TO FIX THIS KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2015-2016 KIA SEDONAS REGARDING COOLANT LEAK. MY ENGINE COULD HAVE CAUGHT FIRE OR SEIZED IF I HAD NOT BEEN SO CAREFUL WITH IT AND IMMEDIATELY STOPPED DRIVING. I HAVE EVIDENCE VERIFYING THIS FROM INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AS WELL AS KIA. THERE IS A SERIOUS RISK OF DEATH OF DRIVING THESE VEHICLES, WHERE A MAJOR RECALL NEEDS TO HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY. WITHOUT COOLANT, LOOSE HEADGASKETS, ENGINES OVERHEAT AND GET DESTROYED AND MINE HAPPENED SUDDENLY, AND LUCKILY I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE. WELCH AUTOMOTIVE FRANKLIN NC WAS THE FIRST MECHANIC TO DIAGNOSE, THEN STAMEY PERFROMANCE FRANKLIN NC WAS THE SECOND ONE TO CONFIRM, PARAMOUNT KIA ASHEVILLE NC WAS THE MOST RECENT ONE WHO STILL HAS IT AND NOW IS TRYING TO GIVE IT BACK WITHOUT FIXING..... ODDLY ENOUGH THEY RECALLED THE 2015-2016 SORENTOS WITH THE SAME MOTOR AND ISSUES, BUT NOT SEDONAS...... I CAN ADD DIAGNOSIS FROM WELCH AND STAMEY PERFORMANCE AS WELL IF NEEDED, BUT THIS IS KIA SAYING THE HEADGASKET COOLANT LEAK FROM THEIR OWN MECHANIC. ALSO HAVE MORE EVIDENCE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS. The problem started in late July of '23 and I already filed a complaint back then. But I want to file again and emphasize that this is systemic issue with all 2016 Kia Sedona vans. Last year, I was driving with five kids in the car on the way to the beach. While exiting a traffic circle (anyone who has ever driven in NJ knows how dangerous NJ traffic circles can be) when we lost power. The van would not accelerate over 35mph, and we had to drive home in limp mode on the shoulder. Thankfully it was early in the morning, and no one was on the road. Had this happened during a busy time, we would have been rear-ended or worse. I took it to my local mechanic who did $200 worth of repairs, but the vehicle still would not run at full speed and had a very rough idle. I should add prior to loss of power, there were ZERO warning lights, and the car was running fine. I was just about due for an oil change, and I change it on a regular basis according to Kia's recommendations. Then I took it to Kia, and they said they could TRY to fix it for $8000 but they couldn't promise it would work and said my other option was a complete engine replacement. Currently, I have been continuing to drive the van locally because I cannot afford another car. If I drive more than 35-40 minutes the car completely loses power and I have to pull over to the side of the road, turn the car off and wait a few minutes. When I turn it on it will run fine for another 35-40 minutes. I know it is my choice to continue to drive the vehicle, but I wanted to report that the loss of engine power happens almost daily and continues to be a danger. Thankfully, I stick to back roads and avoid highways and I have not lost power on a busy road, yet. I am concerned that there are MANY MORE complaints with the NTHSA for the EXACT same issue and there doesn't seem to be any movement with investigations or recalls. Kia continues to sell these used vans to people who have no clue. This is a life-threatening issue!!!!

On June 6th 2024 My 2016 Kia Sedona experienced sudden power loss accompanied by thick smoke out of the exhaust and a loud ticking while on a busy main intersection. Kia's Gross negligence to recall its known troubled engines is causing needless highway incidents. From stolen cars, engine failures and now fires, this is the second Kia I have had fail.

While driving the check engine light came on, the radio started talking about an engine failure, and my van lost all power. I was on an interstate going at least 70 mph, my children in the vehicle and cars, trucks, and semis passing us. We were almost hit trying to get to the side of the road. I took the van to the Kia dealership where they informed me that it would need an engine replacement. Before this incident there was no warning of the failure at all.
