Component/system: Engine / powertrain – excessive engine oil consumption. The original engine is still in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. On 11/7/2025 my dealer (Ourisman Hyundai in [XXX] ) added 2 quarts of oil at 90,999 miles after the dipstick showed a very low level. After that visit, we drove approximately 713 miles (mostly highway, including a college visit trip), and the oil level again dropped close to the same low point on the dipstick. On 11/22/2025 at 2:10 PM, with mileage at 91,815, the dipstick again showed a significantly low oil level. I am concerned that this abnormal oil consumption could lead to sudden engine failure or loss of power while driving at highway speeds, putting my family and others on the road at risk. This vehicle is used regularly for my daughter’s college visits and everyday transportation. The dealer has acknowledged the concern, previously performed a combustion chamber cleaning on 8/11/2025 (Invoice #XXX), and has submitted a request to Hyundai for assistance. However, a formal oil consumption test or official diagnosis has NOT yet been completed, so the exact cause is UNKNOWN. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealer, and Hyundai Motor America has opened a case, but there has been no final decision or repair yet. There have been no warning lamps or messages on the dashboard; the only symptom has been repeated, excessive oil loss between visits, verified by multiple dipstick and odometer photos. - #11700995November 22, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
We were driving on I4 in stop and go traffic. Our speed was under 25 mph and we were over a full car length back from the vehicle in front of us. I was actively braking to come to a stop due to traffic and the forward collision / emergency braking kicked in and stopped us immediately. This caused a car behind us to almost hit us and cause an accident due to sudden stopping. This happened 3 separate times within a 30 minute timeframe with 2 different cars behind us. The system will take control of braking the car and the steering wheel, and will not always give it back immediately to be able to continue driving. This has occurred previously when slowing down due to someone turning in front of us just in every day driving, and has almost caused a wreck then as well. Our local Hyundai dealer said there was no recall or issue with the system. This is dangerous and going to cause an accident sooner or later.

Part(s) Affected: Engine / Engine Control / Stall / Loss of Power Summary: My 2016 Hyundai Tucson (VIN: [XXX] ) has an active P1326 – Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS) code, which indicates rod bearing wear and imminent engine failure. The vehicle experiences: •loss of power •inability to accelerate •engine hesitation •risk of stalling while driving These are serious safety risks. This issue is part of the Hyundai/Kia engine defect settlement XXX), yet Hyundai refuses to provide towing or address the safety risk despite the P1326 code being a known precursor to engine seizure. The vehicle is currently unsafe to drive, and Hyundai Customer Care has refused to escalate my case according to settlement requirements. This is a safety hazard that can cause engine seizure and sudden loss of power while driving. Details: •Hyundai Case #: XXX •Engine settlement code P1326 confirmed •Hyundai refusing proper support •Vehicle should not be driven NHTSA intervention is needed due to Hyundai’s failure to address a known safety defect. As I was parking my car in a parking spot going about 5 miles or less. My car surged forward at a very accelerated speed, and I ended up running into a brushed and a metal fence, which is what stopped me. There were no warnings that went off on my car. No emergency brakes, nothing.

While driving my car to Virginia to see my daughter, the oil light came on in the middle of a highway, where the speed limit was 70, The car slowed down and I had to pull off to the shoulder as the car lost all acceleration, making it very dangerous on a highway I waited for about 2 hours for a tow truck I waited for almost 2 months to get my car back and it happened again after having it back for a little over a week Mind you, I bought the car brand new with 45 miles on it and the first problem happened a little over 2 weeks after I bought it Hopefully this can be resolved so that my car doesn’t spend more time being serviced than me driving it

I’ve experienced repeated electrical and mechanical issues with my 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. These include full battery drainage without engine activation (leaving me stranded), multiple warning lights, and recently a heater failure that remains unresolved. I’ve had over 8 service visits in two years, and Hyundai has not responded to my formal letter. A detailed timeline is available if needed.

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson is experiencing severe oil consumption, which appears to be related to a known manufacturing defect affecting Hyundai engines from this period. My vehicle is burning through oil rapidly between normal oil change intervals, and it has begun showing signs of low oil levels despite no external leaks. This creates a serious safety concern because the engine can fail without warning. The dealership has acknowledged that excessive oil consumption is a known issue for this engine but refuses to provide assistance because I do not have “enough oil change documentation” over the years. However, this issue is not caused by lack of maintenance — it is a widespread internal defect that Hyundai has issued multiple technical service bulletins for. My car has been maintained, and oil changes were performed at regular intervals, even if I do not have complete paperwork. The rapid oil burning is ongoing and dangerous. I am concerned about the engine seizing, stalling, or failing while driving, which could lead to a crash. This is a safety hazard that should be investigated and included with other Hyundai engine cases. Requested Action: I am asking NHTSA to investigate this oil consumption defect affecting the 2017 Hyundai Tucson and require Hyundai to provide a remedy, including repair or engine replacement, regardless of perfect maintenance documentation, since this problem stems from a manufacturing flaw.

Instrument cluster screen and HUD go entirely blank intermittently, for various lengths of time. Loss of speedometer is a safety issue. Also, have no idea of what other functions may, or may not be working. Dealer acknowledges seeing and servicing this problem for other owners. And Hyundai owners online forum report the same issue. Dealer has replacement component ordered, but not 100% sure of cause or solution. No warning whatever. First occurred shortly after purchase in July 2025, with less than 1000 miles on it.

the engine failed without warning. While going up a hill the car lost power. Yes, the dealership said it was a known problem. Yes, the dealership fixed the problem by putting in a new engine which I was responsible for 5% of the cost which was 739.66. The only warning that was given was after the car failed, the engine light and the oil light went on.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled, and there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to Auto Zone, and a scanner was used to diagnose the vehicle. And it was determined that the catalytic converter had failed. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed the vehicle with oil intrusion into the catalytic converter. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil, and an abnormal sound was coming from the engine. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled again. The contact was adding seven quarts of oil for every 3,000 miles driven. In addition, the catalytic converter failed to function as intended. No warning light was illuminated. The contact was concerned that the engine could fail. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The screen display in front of the driver showing speed, gas level, warning signals, traffic lane departure alerts goes blank and flashes on and off. Sometimes no screen at all for miles. At times all warning signals are lit up for many miles. This is an ongoing problem that has not been fixed over 3 visits soon to be 4.

- #11699883November 17, 2025SERVICE BRAKES
The issue started just before my vehicle had 60,000 miles on it and only occurred every once and a while but, now it happens more often. When braking at low speeds my car makes a hissing/buzzing noise and the pedal goes soft. We got to a dealership when it had 60,420 miles on it. The dealership had it for two weeks saying they have never experienced anything like this issue before. They even contacted Hyundai Tech to help them. No warning lights ever came on and that was my concern. Finally after two weeks they said my tone ring on my driver's front side was bad and causing a false 0 reading. When I asked why the warning lights didn't come on they told me everything was working like should. Then after I pointed out that they said it was reading a false zero they were like no that must have been a typo its reading four miles under the rest and that's causing the abs system to activate. I'm from Ohio so I know what my abs sounds and feels like when it activates. It's a pulsating feeling not a soft pedal. When my abs truly activates my traction control light comes on. As I stated no lights have ever come on. This issue causes longer stopping times. There hasn't been any accidents because my wife and I try not to drive it. It's going to a third shop to try and figure out the issue. Yes the vehicle is available for inspection.

2 times, while driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle automatically slammed hard on brakes to full stop without any danger or other vehicle near, causing neck pain/whip lash. 3 days ago, I attempted a U-turn in busy intersection, suddenly the vehicle braked hard and came to full stop without any danger near. The dash lights lit up, the vehicle stalled. I was in middle of very busy intersection. It would not move forward. I reversed just in time to miss being slammed into by fast moving oncoming traffic.

On 10/13/25, I was driving on a state hwy & lost all power. All of my warning lights came on. I managed to pull into a driveway & when I tried to start it, puffs of smoke were coming from under the hood. I got it to my mechanic & he said my starter was burnt up. He replaced the starter & discovered that my engine is seized up. It was a scary incident especially driving on a busy state highway. It put my life & others lives in danger. There were no warning lights on prior to this. I acquired the vehicle in February from a car lot. I have had it serviced regularly.
