The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, there was white smoke coming from the engine compartment and the exhaust. The contact retrieved DTC code: P0420 for spark plug failure. The spark plugs were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was diagnosed with spark plugs and catalytic converter failure. The spark plugs were replaced. The contact stated that the spark plugs looked burned. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the catalytic converter was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the vehicle had been consuming an excessive amount of engine oil for almost two years. The contact stated that engine oil was added every 600 miles of driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with the cost for a diagnostic test. The contact declined to pay for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.

The Charging system malfunctioned twice. The car is available for inspection upon request. I am not sure if it may put me at risk but it does give the directive to stop the car. I have taken the car to Hyundai the first day it malfunctioned and explained the charging system malfunction. Hyundai only completed any known recalls. My car has never had any warning lights to come on until the charging system began to malfunction.

The engine started knocking while I was driving around a lot of cars and while I was going to AutoZone to see why the check engine light was flashing on my car wouldn't accelerate and randomly started stopping and I was fearing for my life when I was going on the highway to go back home. For almost a year now I noticed the oil in my car started burning more and more like I would only drive 1k miles and it would already be done with, so I had to replace it. Hyundai knows this is a problem with this car because I called and asked them about the oil and told me specifically it's an engine problem once it starts knocking then you can come fix your car but want me to pay and fix the whole engine and work process.

I bought the new car on 11/21/22. There have been two incidents with the same cause. Incident #1: On 1/25/23, while I was on a six lane highway with high speed traffic and rush hour level traffic, the car began to fail, with 'bucking', failure to respond to the gas pedal, loss of power, and difficulty steering. At that time, the check engine light also went on (it had not been on previous to the event starting). I was able to get the car off the highway, where it completely died - it would not move. It was towed. Mileage at this time was 1,330 miles - the car was 2 months old. It was diagnosed that "Cylinder #3 fuel injector is stuck open causing drivability issue". The likelihood that I would have been hit, by another car on that multi-lane highway with cars at high speed, and hurt or even killed is extremely high, if not certain. I did not file a report with NHTSA about the first incident (I was not aware of this service.) Incident #2: On 12/7/24, while I was again on a six lane highway, high speed traffic, night darkness, rain, and rush hour level traffic, the car began to fail in the exact same way as in 2023, 'bucking', failure to respond to gas pedal, slowing, difficulty steering, etc. I was able to get off the highway before it completely 'died'. It was undriveable and had to be towed. There was no warning light prior to the event occurring. Mileage at the time was 21,091. The probability, considering the rain, the dark, and the fact that I was on a 'super highway', that I could have been hit, hurt or even killed is extremely high. The diagnosis was 'TSB indicated #3 Fuel Injector be replaced." I do not have any of the old fuel injectors. In addition, I routinely - multiple times a week - have small children in this car. These events could have happened when I had a carful of small children with me. My routine schedule means there was also the high probability of others being hurt.

After my car gets going and warms up, the engine has a problem. When it is time for the engine to shift to a higher gear, it makes a revving sound like the clutch has been pushed in and the gas pedal is being pushed. This mostly happens around 25 and 45mph. When you hit the as to make it stop it jerks and sometimes skids. If you take you foot off the gas it stops, but also slows down. When you hit the gas again it jerks again. If you try to speed up to get it to stop, it jerks again and this time pretty badly.

- #11630579December 13, 2024VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I purchased a new 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited on [XXX]. At about 2000 miles I noticed the speedometer of the car and the WAZE app were reporting different speeds. This is an intermittent problem so sometimes the vehicles speedometer and the WAZE app match and other times the vehicles speedometer and the WAZE App disagree. I've repeatedly taken this car to the dealership where I purchased it complaining about the problem and they can't seem to find a problem. Hyundai documented the problem is with WAZE and there's "DELAY" in the signal from the satellite to the WAZE App, even though I've stated my other vehicles speedometers and the vehicle speed reported by WAZE match. Hyundai documented this anomaly is what gives the vehicle it's "UNIQUENESS." Yet they won't resolve this issue. There are several functions in the car that are dependent on the the vehicle's speedometer being correct and when the speedometer is incorrect, these other functions don't work properly either. I've taken the car onto freeways where there are measured mile postings. Sometimes when the speedometer indicates it's at 60 MPH it takes 60 seconds to traverse the mile. Other times, when the speedometer indicates its at 60 MPH it takes 63 seconds to travel the measured mile. it's not just my car, there are many other customers around the United States that are experiencing this problem and I/we can't seem to get Hyundai to address, fix this problem. My personal opinion is this; Hyundai knew about this problem before they put the car out to the market for sale. So Hyundai knowingly sold a defective vehicle, before they sold the first one of these vehicles. - #11630593December 13, 2024EXTERIOR LIGHTING
I purchased a new 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited in May 2024. At about 3500 miles I noticed the low-beam headlights did not adequately illuminate the road. When driving at night, the low-beams don't illuminate the road signs nor do they adequately have any vertical illumination. When pedestrians are walking on the roadway, the low-beams barley light the calf of a person's leg, but there's no indication of the persons body being illuminated. Using the Hi-Beams, these problems are somewhat resolved. The roadways are better lit, the road signs are better lit and pedestrians are a little more illuminated. I've addressed this with Hyundai, and while there's screw(s) to vertically align the headlamps higher, it seems they are adjusted all the way to the top position. Even if the headlamps could be adjusted vertically, because the headlamps are so recessed under the hood, the hood cuts off any possibility for lights to vertically illuminate people. In my opinion, this is a serious safety issue that's caused by a design flaw and the NTHSA should seriously considering deeming this vehicle unfit for road use at night.

- #11630616December 13, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY:SOLENOID
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the traction control and ABS warning lights illuminated. The vehicle later failed to restart. The contact stated that the engine had previously been replaced. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the starter solenoid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V107000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

My Passenger window fell down and will not go up, It is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk is that the window is being help up by tape and if it falls all of a sudden while driving could break the glass and spread inside as well as cause object to fly out of the vehicle. This has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone No warning lamps or messages. I put my window down and then it never went back up and motor was just running and probably made it worse

When the vehicle is turned off the 12v Lithium battery will die. This is a intermittent occurrence that has happened approximately 7 times since [XXX]. Today is December 12, 2024. The car is currently at All Start Hyundai dealership in Pittsburg, CA. This dealership initially denied the car had a problem because they could not duplicate it in a 24 hour period and told me "the car is operating as designed". When I insisted they check the health of the battery, the service department would not do this until they received technical advise from Hyundai headquarters (HQ). It is a multistep process to get to the battery and requires removing the back seat. When HQ advised the battery check, the service department found the battery was swollen and needs to be replaced. I have found information on chat boards and YouTube where other car owners having the same issue. Why hasn't Hyundai HQ issued a recall and replaced all the batteries? The dealership has told me there are batteries in inventory in a warehouse in Los Angeles California, yet HQ has them on hold on back order status. What and why would the battery not be available for the cars having the issue? I believe a swollen 12v Lithium battery is a safety hazard and should be recalled. I took my vehicle in for an oil change and was advised that my car failed a recall. The PCV valve failed. After the dealership, explain this problem to me I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. Imagine being told that the fuel tank can expand and pop up the backseat of your vehicle at any given moment or even cause the car to blow up and no warning lights coming on to alert you that this part had a defect.
