Twice in the past two months the vehicle enters a rough low RPM. Will not respond to the accelerator and the engine shuts down. First was in a parking lot the second while driving in school zone traffic. Was able to safely get off the road the second time. The parking lot I waited a few minutes and the engine ran normally. Same for the second time, waited a few minutes and it would not start then a few more minutes it started and ran. Both times all dash warning light lit up but just for a few seconds. If this happens at highway speeds a good outcome seems risky.

On [XXX], my brakes failed on my 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid on a busy interstate in Atlanta, GA. I had it towed to Ed Voyles Hyundai in Smyrna, GA and after "looking at it" they were not able to diagnose the issue. I informed them my brakes went out, they ran a diagnostic test and found where the message came across the dash, but stated it was fine and to bring it back if it happened again. On [XXX], it happened again. My brakes failed and the same alert was sounding off in my vehicle. I took it to Ed Voyles again and they were finally able to determine it was the ABS module on my vehicle. This was due to an electrical short in the brake system. I found out it is the same part as the recall. I emailed the service manager and he agreed. However, Hyundai Motor America will not allow them to remedy the issue because they haven't "come up with a remedy". The recall is listed as severe! Not only will it catch on fire, but the brakes also fail! There is a burning smell that comes from under my car and I am not sure how there is no remedy for a recall that could cost HMA way more than to replace some ABS modules. I don't feel safe driving my vehicle and I am not sure how to get more attention to this matter. It is immensely unsafe to allow millions of people to drive in a potential failing brake fire hazard. I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata that had its engine replaced as part of the recall. The car was taken to Hyundai of Central FL in January 2022 and repairs were completed in May 2022. Since that time the car has had several repairs that I feel are a cause of the faulty engine and or engine related to the replacement. These repairs include oxygen sensors both front and rear replaced, additional sensors, catalytic converter, transmission flush. Just in this month the car has been taken to Greenway Hyundai in Orlando weekly for a check engine light. The car was taken last week after the check engine light came on again and oxygen sensors needed to be replaced again. After the car was picked up last Wed, the check engine light on again and is currently sitting at Greenway Hyundai in Orlando for additional diagnostics. I may have to pay for diagnostic fee again and additional repairs again. So far, the repair costs exceed $3,000. The car displays show that it is one notch from overheating, runs a little sluggish, knocking noise at times and are experiencing similar issues when prior to when the engine was replaced initially back in May 2022. I am afraid of the car seizing up while I'm driving potentially causing an accident or fire as several consumers have noted the same. I have corresponded with Hyundai Corporate on several occasions asking for assistance as I quite frankly do not feel safe Hyundai or Kia vehicles. I had also asked for some type of assistance with my repair costs again that I feel are engine related otherwise why else would the check ENGINE light be displayed. In all instances Hyundai Corporate has simply skirted the greater issue and provided me with a staged response. Now I’m being told that possibly the injectors need to be replaced on a car whose engine was replaced less than 2 years ago. I’ve asked Hyundai several times to replace the car in like kind and quality because they are allowing a car to be unsafe to be operating .

Hyundai states this vehicle may catch fire while parked or while driving. They have advised not parking inside due to fire risk. We do not feel safe driving the vehicle any more than on local low speed city streets, as it might be impossible to safely pull over should it catch fire while driving at high speeds on a highway. We have been waiting months for Hyundai to fix this, cannot get a straight answer as to when that will happen. They have refused to provide a loaner or rental car, so we are currently stuck with a car that is close to completely useless and apparently presents a fire hazard even while sitting in our driveway. Can NHTSA assist?

Sunroof burst while driving on freeway at a low speed due to heavy traffic. There were no overpasses or bridges above the vehicle when explosion was heard. No point of impact on sunroof from possible rocks and glass is shattered but in one piece and it appears to have burst outwards as it’s bowing upwards. Sunroof had rarely ever been used prior to this and vehicle is only 1 year old. Only some tiny pieces of glass came off initially, but headliner collected them instead of landing on driver/passenger while driving.

Last week as I was driving the engine oil warning light came on. I pulled into a parking lot immediately and turned off my Sonata. After a few minutes I checked the oil and found no oil on the dip stick. I added oil and returned home where I checked online and discovered that there was a recall for Hyundai Sonatas using or burning excessive amounts of oil and ruining the engine. I called my local dealership and was told that my VIN is not included in the recall. It cost thousands of dollars to repair or replace an engine. How could my VIN not be included? The dealership offered no help. I go to the local dealership to have my oil changed every four to five thousand miles.

Driving going 30 mph, vehicle stopped accelerating. Error code was Engine Control System failure. Codes P2178, P0301 and P0087F0 were shown at dealership. Car was taken to dealership for repairs where the fuel injector on cylinder #1. 16 days after receiving car back, we went to start the car and it wouldn't start. After several attempts, gasoline began spewing from the car leaking an entire tank of gas on our garage floor and driveway. Very dangerous! Being towed to dealership again today.

I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata that has had repeated engine issues including stalling overheating and shutting off. The car engine also caught on Fire on [XXX} and was reported to Hyundai Consumer affairs where a case was opened. The car was in the dealership for repair until [XXX] I have a warranty that the dealership or Hyundai did not honor for the engine, power train. The services that were repaired was a replacement of a engine piece which is Continuously Variable Valve Timing) System which controls the controls the open & close timing of intake valve to improve engine performance. On approximately [XXX] 3 days after picking the car up which I had to incur the cost of the repair as Hyundai did not honor my warranty the engine as well as oil light came on The car repair included transmission oil flush and engine oil replacement per the dealership. I contacted the service manager Mr Espinoza who was overseeing my case and informed him of the continued issues he asked me to drive the vehicle in to be looked it. as we have had inclement weather in my area i was unable to take the vehicle in. On [XXX] I attempted to drive the car to the services department at Pohanka hyundai only for the engine to make a roaring noise and stall also there was no engine oil in the car wherefore it should’ve been. I contacted the dealership and told they were busy and to bring it next week. i am requesting hyundai to buyback the car. I was driving the vehicle with 2 other occupants onboard on [XXX] towards US-101. The EPS warning light already came on after entering [XXX] from [XXX], but initially, I didn't think it was much of an issue. As I merged to the right lane in preparation of entering the highway, the steering began to feel very stiff, so I immediately made a right turn into a local street when there was a little bit of steering left. As soon as I pulled over, the steering locked up completely, and both the EPS warning light and the dash display's lane-departure system warning were activated. Luckily no other vehicle or humans were endangered at the time. I put the car into park and powered it off. When I powered it back on again several minutes later, the issue resolved itself and I was able to continue driving with normal steering, and steering remained normal after several power on/off cycles which included both local and highway driving. Come to think of it, ~3 months before this incident happened, I already noticed occasional stuttering of the steering wheel and humming of the EPS assembly when the car is stationary or at low speed. I took the car to a third-party repair shop on the next day since the Hyundai dealership appointment is a week away at the earliest. They ran diagnosis before telling me that the steering sensor in the EPS motor assembly failed, and this happened very frequently for 2017 Sonata Plug-in hybrids. This happens so often, apparently, that Hyundai issued service bulletin [XXX], but this very much looks like a recall to me, as when the system fails, steering is lost completely, and could cause great harm to myself as well as the occupants onboard, not to mention other vehicles around me. I was lucky that it happened before I entered the highway and also had a place to pull over. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine started making a weird knocking noise & was smoking from oil lid. Was driving & the noise got louder & then started to making a squealing noise. Started heading towards the dealership & it slowly started loosing power. Got to the turning lane to turn into the dealership parking lot, car immediately died in middle of road causing me to almost be hit by another vehicle . It started up long enough for me to make it into the parking lot. Car is now currently sitting at dealership waiting till Monday for Hyundai Service center to look at it. I originally had an appt scheduled for Tuesday to get it looked at but it didn’t last that long. speed limit was 35, I couldn’t even drive over 20 mph & had my emergency hazards on.

My vehicle has been consuming oil very often. I have done regular maintenance on it since I purchased the vehicle. I first noticed the issue in August of last year. My remaining oil in my engine before an oil change would be little to none. I brought it to a Hyundai Dealership and they told me they can do nothing. They told me if my check engine light came on and my engine seized, to call them. I had a check engine light of O2 sensors being out. I replaced those. My engine continued to consume oil. I had another check engine light come on last week and it was my timing sensors. They went out. I replaced those and my technician looked inside my engine, and it is filled with metal shavings. My timing chains will go off if I drive my vehicle and my engine will no longer function. Hyundai in Sioux Falls, South Dakota told me numerous times they did not see why my engine was consuming oil. They also told me they would have a tow truck come get my car to repair if it was seized or damaged. They refused to last week. They told me the only way to fix my engine is if the code of P1326 was present. My code now is P001000. I am stuck without a car because i cannot drive mine.
