I own a 2018 Hyundai Sonata 2.0 turbo I paid cash for it in [XXX] with 2011 miles on it for 24,000 cash didn’t start having problems until 2022 then the I kept hearing a knocking on the left front wheel. I had it look at several places because the Hyundai of Louisville dealership kept telling me my title was branded I didn’t know what that meant till I took my title to the tag office and had the sheriffs department check the title out and it was an still is 100 % clean then my engine kept getting worse an in may of 2023 the engine stopped working I had the car towed to the local dealership and they couldn’t even look at it till Aug of 2023 the they told me I shot out a code 99 and they refused to update my software for the knock sensor system and wouldn’t honor the regular 60,000 miles warranty my car only had 48,000 miles on it . They didn’t bother telling me about the faulty GDI 2.0 turbo engine in August of 2023 I had to research it and find out on the internet that it’s a excessive oil consumption problem with this faulty engine. I had my car stolen for 6 days in April of 2023 and everything was taken out of my glove box an trunk . My oil change receipts were kept in an envelope in the glove box and were stolen with all my car registration an insurance papers . So the dealership refused my free engine replacement because I don’t have all my oil change receipts and blamed me for the oil being out of the engine which is due to the faulty GDI 2.0 turbo engine the dealership has now had my car 300 days I’ve been walking to and from my work I can’t afford a new engine all I want is me free engine replacement I have all the articles printed of all the engine problem with the cars catching on fire or just stop running period . I need some representation on having the Hyundai of Louisville Kentucky on Dixie highway to get me my free engine replacement they want 14,000$ for a new engine. I have an oil leak. After getting an oil change I have to add 1-2 quarts of oil before my next oil change. I do have my oil change as recommended. This has happened so far on the last 3 oil changes I’ve done.

The brake lights keep going off, they have been replaced several times. The passenger airbag deployed on a stop sign and cracked the entire windshield. The steering wheel feels like it’s going to come off. Please help

Car continues to burn oil within a week of getting oil changes, the oil will be black and it will be low sometimes there will be no oil and there is not an oil leak. Right now we had to pay for a combustion test and have to drive 1,000 miles then check the oil at Hyundai again and already our oil is starting to burn and is low. Hyundai said if the combustion test comes back still burnt or low Hyundai would give me a new engine and yea it’s low and already a tint dark not as dark as it used to get but still it’s low with no leak and we did not get the promised new engine after paying almost 600$ for the test… Also electrical wise the computer randomly sounds like static when Siri talks also the music does not play and randomly the maps will close out we have tried new cords we have tried everything and it still happens.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
While driving at about 45mph a warning flashed on my dash. I couldn't read it before it disappeared, but it was something about front collision., contact dealer. the car immediately lost all power. Everything was still running, but I had no acceleration. I had to back down a busy road into a vacant lot. I had just come off of the highway when this happened, if I had still been driving on the Highway, I would have been hit by a car from behind, since there was no warning at all. The car was towed to a Hyundai dealership. After a diagnosis, it was said to be the Throttle body. I had to wait for the repair because the part was on back order. I was told that there was another car there waiting on the same part. I am afraid to drive the car now, even though the repair was made. I feel this is a safety hazard, and that someone could be injured or killed because of this issue with the car.

The engine seized up while my wife was driving on the freeway forcing her to pull over. There is a settlement about these engines indicating that they consume too much oil and Hyundai offered a lifetime warranty for them which we were denied because a previous owner didn’t take care of the oil changes it appears. I have fought with Hyundai to replace this engine simply due to the fact it’s a bad engine and countless millions of customers know this. I was advised that some customers have reached out to you to inspect and sometimes this forces Hyundai to do something. If we didn’t qualify for this replacement we shouldn’t have received a brochure and we shouldn’t be in trouble for somebody else’s actions. The vehicle shouldn’t have been sold to us in the first place.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel was constantly pulling to the right. The contact had to steer to the left to keep the vehicle centered. The failure persisted even after wheel adjustments had been made. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that an alignment was needed. The wheels were aligned. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owned a 2019 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while stopped at a red light, smoke was present coming from the hood and a burning oil odor was present inside the cabin of the vehicle. Moments later while driving, flames were seen coming from under the hood before the vehicle stalled. After exiting the vehicle, the front of the vehicle burst into flames. The local fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was destroyed and later towed away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. A fire report was taken at the scene. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at 65 MPH, an abnormal knocking noise began to emit from the vehicle as the check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The vehicle began to lose power as the contact's daughter coasted the vehicle into a parking lot. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V568000 (Engine) which was linked to the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.

2023 Hyundai Sonata N-Line bought on [XXX]. Engine Control System failed 2 times w/in first 4 months. 1ST ENGINE INCIDENT ● [XXX] (Approximately 1:30 p.m.) ○ I was driving (1,949 miles on odometer) at an intersection when car lost power, lights on dashboard starting flashing & ignition shut off in the middle of intersection. ○ On dashboard notification stated “A possible condition with your engine control system has been detected with your 2023 Hyundai Sonata [XXX] ) on [XXX] at 1:25 p.m. A full system check is recommended to be done soon”. I also received notification via email. ○ Couldn't get appointment until [XXX] Cesar advised me they did diagnostic test & test drive & couldn’t find the problem. They made no repairs & made a notification in system of this problem. He stated that if it happens again to bring the car back. 2ND ENGINE INCIDENT ● [XXX] ○ My husband & I were driving (4,177 on odometer) & I was pulling out of a side street to make a left hand turn into a busy 4 lane street & as I drove ½ way across street my car lost all power, lights on my dashboard started flashing, ignition shut off & two cars were driving towards us about to T-bone us my driver's side. Cars braked suddenly to avoid hitting us. ○ On the dashboard of my car was a notification stating “A possible condition with your engine control system has been detected with your 2023 Hyundai Sonata [XXX] ) on [XXX] at 1:15 p.m. A full system check is recommended to be done soon”. I also received this notification via email. Dropped car off at Fontana Hyundai on [XXX]. Did diagnostic test & engine specialists inspection; couldn't find problem They said we will replace this part and hope it doesn't happen again. How do you put someone back in a car when you haven't diagnosed the problem; that's a serious safety issue, my life is endangered. Supposed to pick car up [XXX]. WAS PARKED IN BANK PARKING LOT. STARTED ENGINE, PLACED CAR IN REVERSE AND CAR ACCELERATED AT A VERY HIGH RATE OF SPEED. (LIKE I WAS IN A DRAG RACE!!) APPLIED BRAKES, WHICH DID NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. DID NOT STOP UNTIL I RAN INTO A PARKED CAR. WHOLE INCIDENT TOOK JUST SECONDS. CAR HAD BEEN IN FOR REGULAR SERVICE AT THE DEALERS ON [XXX]. NOW HAS 16,597 MILES ON VEHICLE. CAR TO BE SERVICED AT RACHELS COLLISION, 720 S NOVA ROAD, DAYTONA BEACH, FL ON MONDAY [XXX]. IF I HAD NOT RAN INTO A PARKED CAR, I WOULD HAVE ENTERED [XXX] IN DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, FL WHICH WAS CROWDED WITH MOTORCYCLES.... FRIDAY NOON DURING BIKE WEEK. I purchased my 2017 Hyundai Sonata brand new. At only 37,000 miles, it literally ran out of oil without any prior warning on [XXX], stranding me on the side of the road. The Hyundai dealership has required two oil consumption tests and a combustion chamber cleaning, but the problem continues. This excessive oil consumption issue is well known and well documented by thousands of other Hyundai owners whose vehicles have a Theta II 2.4L engine. Hyundai requires the engine to completely fail before it qualifies for an engine replacement. A friend of mine's Hyundai Sonata caught on fire due to this very same issue while going over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, FL in June 2023. On [XXX] I was driving on [XXX] [XXX] from Rockville, Maryland when my vehicle (2018 Hyundai Sonata Limited) started to lose power and control and all dash lights started to show. I was able to move the vehicle to the highway shoulder before all power and control failed. Had I been moving at a higher speed or in heavier traffic, or been slower to react this could have led to a catastrophic incident. When the roadside assistance showed up they found that my alternator had completely detached from my vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the Sheehy Hyundai dealership in Waldorf, MD and examined on [XXX]. The maintenance staff informed me that there were 3 other similar cases they're working on, and that there is a flaw in the design of the alternator bracket using aluminum materials that failed, and that they've reported this systemic issue to the manufacturer but have yet to receive any indications that this would be considered for a recall despite the catastrophic impact this could have. My 2017 Hyundai Sonata is using oil at a ridiculous rate. The rapid oil consumption has caused me to be left stranded twice & I had to have it towed to a mechanic both times. I’m having to take it every 2 weeks to be checked by a mechanic & it’s low everytime I take it to him. He’s had to replace all the spark plugs 2 different times since October of 2023, which is very costly for me. I’m a single, working mother of 4 children. 2 of which are in college. So I definitely can’t afford all the towing & repair fees. I purchased an extended warranty, which covers the engine, when I bought the car. My mechanic has reached out to them to tell them his findings & recommendation. The warranty company thinks it is normal for the car to use a quart of oil every 2 weeks. I need help asap as my warranty will expire in 8,000 more miles. Please help me resolve this issue so I’m not left stranded again.
