I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the ongoing recall issue with my 2017 Hyundai Elantra. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with both Hyundai and the dealership’s handling of the recall and the associated repair costs. We received a recall notice for our vehicle last year, at which point we promptly took the car to the Hyundai dealership. Despite multiple attempts to address the issue, we have experienced significant delays, poor communication, and no clear resolution from the dealership or Hyundai. After several months of waiting, we were informed that the recall, which pertains to paint damage caused by a manufacturer’s defect, would cost $3,200 to repair. Furthermore, we were advised that we would be responsible for an out-of-pocket expense of $1,000. We find this situation both perplexing and unacceptable. As consumers, we should not be burdened with costs related to a defect that is clearly the responsibility of the manufacturer. We purchased the vehicle in good faith and expect the manufacturer to uphold its responsibility for repairs related to defects covered by recall notices, especially when the problem is identified after the warranty has expired. The fact that Hyundai is only offering to cover 60% of the repair cost is unreasonable and further exacerbates our frustration. I am requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigate this matter and hold Hyundai accountable for its failure to resolve the recall issue in a timely manner, as well as its refusal to fully cover the cost of repairs related to a defect for which we should not be responsible. Please consider this letter a formal complaint, and I kindly ask for your assistance in resolving this matter promptly. I both dealership and Hyundai corporate admitted they sent the letter after the warranty expired. We’ve been dealing with this issue for over a year. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

My engine is ticking. The auto shop told me that my motor is shot and the same thing happened to my sons car. We both have the same car same year. There has been a law suit for this issue.

Steering wheel makes clacking noise when turning left or right, especially if making sharp right angle turn or when parking. I think I noticed it first in early November 2024 while parking. Since then it has been occurring with greater frequency as well as both directions. I called a repair shop 2 weeks ago & was told it was a common problem with Hyundai's. I went to a different repair shop last Thursday, Dec 5th, 2024, for a tire repair & asked for estimate on steering issue. They told me it was a really big project to replace some sort of ball like piece & required taking the whole steering assembly apart. He said when it goes I'll loose steering & likely have an accident as a result. He said that as my car has less than 29,000 original miles on it (28,630), I should go to the Hyundai dealer as they should pay to repair it as it's a huge safety issue & shouldn't happen to such a low mileage car. I tried to go there but they'd moved & I didn't have a phone to query new location. At home I called and got VM for a man in service dept. Left msg. No one responded so I called again Fri, Dec 6, 2024 & was put throughto a differentman in the service dept's VM & left another detailed msg, this time incluing VIN#. Now is Monday 12/9/24 & still no reply. I looked online & saw there was a recall for this vehicle from 2008-2010, but nothing came up when I entered my VIN on this NHSTA site. I believe my vehicle should be included and I don't think I should have to wait until an accident has occurred, or have to spend thousands out if pocket to repair an Issue that appears to be more widespread that initially considered. Can you help please? I prefer bring proactive and not incurring any damage to life, limb & property for my self, any potential passengers, or anyone else who might be harmed should I experience power steering loss. Thank you.

Ignition coil failure. Causing misfires and rough idle. Misfire initially found in cylinder 2 when check engine light illuminated and check with an OBD II reader. Swapped the cylinder 1 ignition coil with cylinder 2. Check engine light returned the next day with the same signs. Check engine light and rough idle. OND II code scanner now says misfire in cylinder 1. The rough idle makes for slow acceleration until above 20mph.

The high beam shutter that switches from high to low is not working. The car has 68,000 and I don't think this is something that should not work at that low mileage considering it is not in use all the time. I just dont see how it stops working all of a sudden when most of the time drivers do not use their high beams everyday. I just got inspected because its required in our state and both mechanics confirmed this problem. We bought a new bulb and that is when we found out the problem.

My steering wheel started making loud rattling and clunking noise. This happened when I turned or slowed down or went over a bump. It got worse very quickly. I suddenly could not steer at all. So I ran into a pole. Thankfully it wasn't another car or a person. Many people have this same issue. This needs to be recalled ASAP. It's either the pinion and rack issue or the steering wheel issue.

The horn on my car has completely stopped working. We have checked the fuses, but that is not the issue. A "Google" search reveals that this is a common, and known, issue and happens to the 2023 trim models; not just the Elantra, but others as well.

I purchased the car brand new March 2023. I noticed the front driver headlight fogs and has condensation in cool weather. I mentioned to the Dealership and they said it was a known issue but no fix for it. The light was sealed properly. This has been on going since 2023. The condensation has gotten worse and is a safety visability issue.

The back up camera has stopped working. If you read google, yelp, and other forums, a lot of back up cameras have stopped working as early as 24k miles. My vehicle is 2 years old and back up camera has died. I drive a lot of miles for work but cameras do not use mileage. The is a safety hazard as we had a 7 year old killed from a vehicle with no back up camera years ago. I do not agree with having to pay $1000.00 to have this item replaced. Hyundai also did not give me a proper diagnosis. Just need to relace the camera for $980.00 in a link that was a text message.

The oil level burns down to next to nothing approximately every 2 months, with no oil light warning or engine light. However, the engine light does periodically come on but shuts down itself before able to get it checked. The same issues occured with my son's 2017 hyundai which caused the engine to blow and catch fire. His was recalled and repaired. His was a different model. The oil burn on my car has occurred at least 3 times. The steering feels as though it is grinding at lower speeds an makes parking difficult as well. Both of these issues are most concerning.

We lease 5 Hyundai 2024 Elantra Blue hybrids that were bought new a few months back. We have experienced the same issues with 3 of the 5 so far. Cars will STALL at low speeds and sometimes ENGINE LIGHT goes on. Cars will suddenly not accelerate after stopping at a stop sign. Extreme danger for our drivers who are transporting developmentally disabled clients to outings and shopping, etc. Hyundai REPLACED throttle body replacement but same issues reappeared 2 days after getting car back. Now, Hyundai is claiming the GPS units plugged in may be causing this, but other 2 are not experiencing this issue (2 of 5). They refuse to work on further unless GPS units are out, but customer needs GPS units per insurance. So we need help from Hyundai in dealing with the dealer Zimbrick East of Madison, WI. We need the vehicles, but don't want our employees at risk.
