The car in question is a 2026 Honda Passport Trailsport Elite that I purchased in August of 2026 -- and that I'm now thinking of selling! Occasionally when accelerating from a stopped position the acceleration will hesitate for a full second, followed by a slight herky jerky motion. This presents a dangerous situation --- particularly when turning left with oncoming traffic barrelling down. This does not happen all the time but its scary and I end up just waiting to turn rather than risking getting t-boned. I notice on Reddit and the Honda forum that this is a known issue! Nobody has offered a reason. I feel like selling the car it's so bad.

The vehicle experienced a sudden internal mechanical failure while driving, resulting in loss of propulsion and complete engine failure. The vehicle was towed to an authorized franchised dealership service center (Gardena Honda) for inspection. No check engine lights, warning lights or any pile pressure warning! Oil change was 2,500 miles until next service. Upon complete teardown and diagnostic inspection, factory-certified technicians confirmed internal engine damage, specifically connecting rod bearing failure leading to a seized engine requiring a complete engine replacement ($9,375.00 total repair cost). This internal failure presents a severe safety hazard: an unexpected engine stall or lockup at highway speeds risks loss of power steering, loss of power brakes, and an immediate crash. Symptoms align directly with NHTSA Recall 23V-751 and ongoing federal investigations regarding Honda 3.5L V6 engine connecting rod bearing failures, where out-of-spec manufacturing leads to premature bearing wear and sudden engine seizure. The vehicle is maintained according to manufacturer specifications and has 55,649 miles. The failed components remain preserved at the dealership service department for federal or manufacturer inspection upon request.

Cracks appeared on my headlight lens, some all the way through. Its a condition called crazing. Honda refuses to replace saying that I damaged them, which I haven't. If it rains hard, water can enter causing a short , headlights going out or a short causing a fire.

When we come to a stop position, the Fuel Savings Cut off does not start back up and the car stalls and shifts back to N. Takes for ever to re start if it can re start. This has happened to us more that 6 times. I took it this morning to Flow Honda of Charlottesville and talked to the service manager, Jackie. I felt like she thought I had three heads and didn't know what I was talking about, even though I enclosed a printed copy of the issues Honda was having with the Fuel Savings feature cut off.

I just bought the brand new vehicle about a month and a half ago. Went on a vacation in [XXX] National [XXX]. I was cruising along XXX in [XXX], smooth highway, no one near me, great weather, and all of a sudden, there was a huge boom sound so loud, and glass fell down on me, I looked up and my sunroof had exploded and shattered, while the shade was open. I never saw any vehicle near me or bad weather or problem. Just cruising speed on an open highway. I read online and have been told this is a known occurrence with sunroofs in Honda Passports, and have researched online seeing it happen to others. I pulled over and called my Honda dealership. The recommended a crash wrap and to close the shade. I couldn't get it wrapped until I got home to [XXX], and my dealer did that. The shattering occurred on XXX about noon. It was scary, and I had glass in my hair, lap, and all around me in the car. No issues prior that I was aware of. I was looking straight ahead on the open highway when this occurred. The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the infotainment system screen intermittently turned off while driving approximately 65-80 MPH. The messages "Network Communication Lost" and "Most Net Off" were displayed. The failure caused the rear-view camera to become inoperable and the speakers to make crackling sounds, which distracted the driver. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a second dealer, Honda of Princeton (987 State Rd, Princeton, NJ 08540), where the FAKRA connector was replaced several times, but the failure persisted. The dealers attempted to repair the vehicle nine times over four years. The contact related the failure to Warranty Extension: 21-012 (2019-20 Passport/Pilot MOST Bus Network Connectors) and NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V431000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

Vehicle has excessive battery drain at times. Auto start-stop causes car to stop in traffic and difficult to restart. The original battery was replaced at 3 1/2 years of age. The replacement battery failed after about 2 years of service and replaced under warranty. That battery has now failed again. The car is a little over 6 years old and by all rights should only now need a replacement battery. I suspect parasitic drain problem but the dealer has only replaced the battery and no other parts I'm aware of.

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while stopped at a stoplight, the contact attempted to accelerate; however, the Start/Stop system failed to restart the engine. The check engine warning light illuminated, and there was an alarm sounded. The message "Shift to Park" was displayed; but the gear shifter failed to shift into park. The brake pedal was depressed with excessive force and waited for a while before the vehicle was shifted into drive and the vehicle was driven forward. The vehicle was driven to the desired destination and shifted into park. The dealer was contacted and an appointment was scheduled. The failure mileage was 30,600.

Began to have a small shake in the steering wheel at first I thought i had thrown a tire weight on the front. The shaking became increasing worst to the point I felt unsafe driving the vehicle. I took it to a service center on February 2, 2026 to have it inspected. They informed me a belt in the driver's side tire had shifted, causing the steering shimmy while driving. They said that there was no visual damage to the outside of the tire. When ask they cause the reply that it sometimes happens. I had to have the tire replaced as well as a second for balance. The thread on the tire was recorded at 5/32nds. The tires that were replaced were: Continental CrossContact LX Sport 265/45/R20, DOT A3XKD8WV 2120 104H. I have seen that a similar tire that was produced by Continental the same year was recalled by your organization

The driver’s front seat has an internal manufacturing defect causing severe physical pain and numbness, creating a hazardous distraction and impacting my ability to safely operate the vehicle. While operating my 2026 Honda Passport, the driver's front seat induces intense pressure and localized pain against my tailbone and lower back within 20 to 30 minutes of driving. Investigation reveals a known community design flaw where a rigid internal component or improperly fitted seat ventilation hardware creates a hard, localized ridge right at the cushion junction. The sudden onset of severe tailbone pain and lower extremity numbness forces me to constantly shift body weight and alter my seating posture while the vehicle is in motion. This causes an extreme, continuous driver distraction, delays my reaction time to brake or steer, and makes maintaining proper vehicle control difficult during extended highway travel. I have had to resort to using aftermarket padding that alters my driving height and position, potentially compromising the engineered effectiveness of the vehicle's airbag and seatbelt safety systems. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection. The service department turned me away, despite several others concurring that they can feel the presence of the intrusion. I’ve sat in several other Honda Passport Trailsports where the same seat defect is not present. I was informed by Honda that the seat is built "within factory specifications," meaning the design flaw cannot be corrected by swapping standard components.

My 2022 Honda Passport EX-L began experiencing intermittent starting problems in July 2025, including hesitation and clicking sounds. The battery was replaced in July 2025, but the problem continued. The main safety concern involves the Idle Start Stop system. When the engine shuts off while stopped at a traffic light, releasing the brake pedal does not always cause the vehicle to restart normally. At times it struggles or fails to restart, requiring a manual restart. This can leave the vehicle unable to move in active traffic and create a collision hazard. On September 1, 2026, at 61,133 miles, an authorized Honda dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed the concern. The technician documented that it would not start or would struggle to restart after Idle Start Stop activation, found the starter weak, and recommended replacement. I paid $200 for the diagnosis. Honda Corporate advised that another software/system update was applicable and had not yet been performed; an earlier update was reportedly performed in 2023. Honda also advised that replacement starters were backordered/out of stock. The starter was repaired by an independent shop on September 10, 2026. Honda advised that the starter was not covered because the warranty had expired. I asked whether it would have been covered if the warranty were still active, and Honda stated it would not because the condition is not a recall. No police or insurance inspection occurred. The vehicle was inspected by Honda and serviced by an independent repair facility. Repair documentation is available. No warning lamp or message was observed. I request that NHTSA investigate whether this is a safety-related defect involving the starter, Idle Start Stop system, software, electrical system, or related components. I have invoices of the cost associated with the battery replacement and stater repair.

The AD Steering Rack as noted on their service invoice. It started to get sloppy with a lot of give about 4 weeks ago. I asked my husband to drive it to verify my concerns which he did. During that time it had a mind of its own and seemed to want to steer itself. It was not on steering assistance mode nor could you activate that. At 34,000 miles, we immediately went to the nearest dealership and they verified in writing on their invoice a manufacturers defect. We had initially reported a severe condensation problem at 30,415 miles on Jan 27, which they would not address because my timeframe warranty was due to expire in 4 days and they said it would take weeks to diagnose. It is our thoughts that the condensation issue reported to them on jan 27, at 30,415 miles is related to the malfunction we experienced 4 weeks ago. No warning lamps prior were present at any time. When the dealer gave it back, it now has a new severe clunking noise when you turn the wheel. We took backroads home fearing a loss of control of the entire steering. The dealer would not honor any type of warranty until they received a code from corporate. To date, we have received nothing. Our car is grounded, we can no longer drive it and are still obligated to pay 777.00 per month to Honda Finance Corp. It was obvious that our safety and the safety of others on the road were compromised when the steering became sloppy and loose and steered by itself. This is available for inspection at any time.

The contact owns a 2019 HONDA Passport. The contact stated while driving the vehicle at an undisclosed speed, he noticed that the vehicle had reduced power and could not accelerate very well, accompanied by an odd noise coming from the engine bay. The contact stated that he had an independent mechanic confirm that the noise was a possible engine issue leading to the destruction of the camshaft and other components. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they confirmed a main bearing connecting rod failure and a code stating a lack of oil in the engine, although the vehicle has shown a good history of maintenance. The contact stated he had gotten an emissions warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact stated the issue he noticed was the odd sound, which first sounded like a ticking noise and became louder over time. The contact also noted the dealer had discovered metal shavings in the oil pan. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer confirmed the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.

The Auto Idle Stop feature failed to restart the car after sitting at a stoplight twice this past week. The dealer (Frank Leta Hoda) diagnosed the problem as a "bad starter". I believe this falls under the active investigation EA22005 - No Start After Auto Start/Stop Engages. The vehicle is two years old with 40,378 miles at the time of reporting the problem to the dealer. I reported this to Honda Corp and was assigned case number 16619534 which is being reviewed. The two incidents happened without warning during drives when I had already pushed the button to disengage the Auto Idle Stop feature and was not expecting the engine to turn off at all.

I purchased the 2023 Honda Passport used with 47,500ish miles. It came with a factory 60,000 5-year powertrain warranty. The ONLY reason i paid cash for this vehicle. At 49,900 miles, the engine developed a subtle engine knock. At 50,460 miles, engine has clearly audible knock at idle - 2,000 RPM in gear (under load). 9/1/26 Antrim Honda, [XXX] denied hearing obvious noise. They did not collect oil or oil filter but charged a $190.00 diagnosis fee. The dealer’s conclusion: the noise is a “common engine characteristic of the 3.5" but is contradicted by the presence of bearing material in the oil. With 1,000 remaining on the previous oil change, completed by Keystone Ford, prior to my purchase, XXX, I changed the oil myself. I changed it into a new, cleaned pan, inspected and found heavy metallic “gold dust” bearing material suspended in the used oil. I have retained both the used oil and the oil filter for Honda’s inspection and independent laboratory analysis. No warning lights or codes on the dash. Driving from [XXX] to [XXX], just over 1hr into trip @ 100 miles out of town and on one of the many steep inclines on the route, the engine power seemed to pulse, as if increase and decrease of gas/acceleration, then has every single alert possible illuminated on dash with the bell sound: Electric power steering system problem, steering assist reduced. Electric parking brake system problem, parking brake not available. Brake system problem, brake performance may be reduced. Brake hold system problem, apply brake when stopped. Vehicle stability assist system problem, reduced traction and handling. Trailer stability assist system problem. Hill descent control system problem, apply brake when descending. Hill start assist problem, vehicle may roll upon brake release. Adaptive cruise control system problem. Collision mitigation braking system problem. Road departure mitigation system problem. Low speed braking control problem. Emission system problem, avoid heavy acceleration and high speed. All wheel drive system problem, only front wheels may be powered. All alerts ending with 'See your dealer' The car then had reduced power which was a significant safety concern and driving risk when navigating hills and traffic flowing at 75mph uphill while this vehicle going slower and slower regardless of gas pedal pressure: 65mph, than 60mph, than 55mph, than 50mhp eating gas like crazy. Coasted into gas station to asses. At low speed there was a rattle upon pressing gas pedal coming from under the hood. The vehicle is 3 months old and has 4,197 miles. It is not simply that the alerts illuminated, those systems were all affected: braking, steering, acceleration, lane departure, cruise control etc. all were not working. Heavy acceleration and high speed were not even an option. Somehow made it back to [XXX] in limp/aux mode. Dealer has had vehicle for 6 hours and no update other than, 'it's not the battery' INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The 9-speed transmission in my vehicle has been acting very strange after owning it since March 2026.These issues did not start until May 2026. When driving the vehicle at low speeds (under 30mph) the transmission is very jumpy and jerky. When you let off the gas the vehicle rocks back and forth and the rpms drop dramatically. It often feels like the transmission is skipping gears. I took my vehicle to the honda dealership to address the issue and they said there was nothing they could do to fix or look into my issue. I am very upset and I feel like I’ve been cheated out of my hard earned money. Honda needs to address this issue and provide relief for all of the owners who are in the same predicament. Be accountable Honda!
