Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain Genesis 2023-2024 G80, GV80, 2025 GV70 and 2023-2025 GV70 "Electrified" vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."

The vehicle's horn has failed 3 times and has been replaced twice. We have opened an incident with Genesis of America to escalate this concern.

Description of Safety Defect & Incident Sequence Severe moisture intrusion inside the driver-side headlight assembly triggered a sudden cascade of critical safety sensor failures while driving, followed by an active electrical short, component melting, and smoke (fire hazard) after the vehicle was shut off. While driving, a dangerous cascade of electrical and safety sensor failures suddenly occurred. Multiple critical dashboard warning alerts triggered simultaneously, including: Turn Signal Out, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and Speed Control. Upon parking and exiting the vehicle, the driver-side headlight housing was found completely obscured by severe internal condensation. Despite the vehicle being turned off and the ignition key removed, the turn signal bulb remained actively flickering, indicating a severe, uncontrolled electrical short circuit. Upon opening the hood, a strong odor of burning plastic/rubber was present, and an active trail of smoke was visibly emanating directly from the headlight assembly area. To prevent an imminent vehicle fire, the main headlight fuse had to be immediately located and pulled. This defect represents a critical safety hazard, causing a sudden loss of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) while driving and a severe electrical fire risk while parked. This is a known issue by Genesis under "Genesis Technical Service Bulletin TSB 23-BD-002G"
While slowly backing into a parking space in an underground hotel garage, the rear parking sensors never activated — no audible warning at any point — and the vehicle's left-rear corner struck a concrete wall corner, cracking the taillight and damaging the bumper/quarter panel (~$3,000 repair). Sensors function normally at all other times; this was an intermittent non-activation. Rear dashcam with cabin audio documents the backup with no sensor tones before impact. No injuries.
The headlight assemblies on both the right and left side have water pooling which severely dims nighttime visibility and creates an immediate risk of total headlight failure while driving at highway speeds. The Forward Collision Avoidance safety sensors have begun flashing or malfunctioning due to the excessive moisture.

The vehicle experienced a failure of the High Pressure Fuel Crossover Pipe, a safety defect subject to NHTSA Recall 26V-229 (Manufacturer Campaign 033G). While operating the vehicle over 200 miles from home, a strong odor of raw fuel was detected inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was immediately parked at an authorized Genesis dealership due to the risk of pressurized fuel leaking onto hot engine components and igniting an engine compartment fire. The dealership confirmed the defect and performed the recall service, completing and invoicing the repair order on August 5, 2026. However, the manufacturer failed to fulfill its statutory duty to provide a remedy without charge and within a reasonable time under 49 U.S.C. § 30120: Unreasonable Logistics Delay: Following the completed repair on August 5, 2026, the manufacturer failed to arrange flatbed transport back to the home state dealership until August 21, 2026—leaving the vehicle stranded on the out-of-state lot for 16 calendar days solely due to internal corporate logistics delays. Failure to Remedy Without Charge: The manufacturer provided no loaner vehicle. After directing the owner to secure rental transportation, the manufacturer retroactively imposed an undisclosed $60/day reimbursement cap—a limitation that does not appear anywhere in the official federal recall notice. This action shifted over $1,100 of out-of-pocket rental and carrying expenses directly onto the consumer. The replaced/inspected fuel pipe assembly was serviced and recorded by the authorized dealership under Warranty Claim Campaign 257.
