The vehicle intermittently and unexpectedly shifts itself from Drive (D) into Park (P) while completely stopped in active traffic. When traffic moves and the accelerator is pressed, the engine revs safely in place, but the vehicle does not move because it has uncommandedly entered Park. The driver must quickly apply the brake and manually shift back into Drive to avoid being rear-ended. This has occurred on 6 separate occasions within the first two months of ownership, creating an immediate, severe collision hazard at active intersections. Dealer/Manufacturer Actions: The vehicle is currently on its 3rd service visit at Genesis of Lindon for this exact issue and has been out of service since August 10, 2026 (accounting for 11 business days on this visit alone, and over 20 calendar days total across all visits). The dealership has been unable to replicate the intermittent electronic/software fault during limited 15-mile test drives. No error codes are stored, and no dashboard warning chimes or lights appear when the uncommanded shift occurs. A corporate case has been opened with Genesis Motor America, and a formal written notice under the Utah New Motor Vehicles Warranties Act has been submitted. The vehicle is currently deemed unsafe to drive by the owner and remains at the dealership.

Component Focus: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING / VISIBILITY/WIPER/DEFROSTER (HVAC) Description of Safety Defect: My brand-new 2026 Genesis GV70 Turbo (under 5,000 miles) suffered a sudden, catastrophic cooling system and heater core failure while in operation. The vehicle has a severe design defect: it completely lacks a low-coolant fluid level sensor in the expansion reservoir. Because of this engineering omission, the vehicle dropped its coolant level completely below the minimum safety line and filled the enclosed passenger cabin with highly toxic, atomized ethylene glycol (antifreeze) chemical vapors through the HVAC vents without triggering a single dashboard warning light, chime, or error code. The climate control system simultaneously malfunctioned, dropping fan speeds when stopped and forcing occupants to breathe in the concentrated toxic fumes. This is a severe health and safety hazard. A driver could easily be overcome by hazardous chemical vapors or experience sudden engine failure at highway speeds because the vehicle provides zero electronic warning of a critical coolant loss. Local authorized dealerships refused to accommodate the vehicle or provide a safe loaner vehicle despite the car being completely undriveable and chemically hazardous to sit inside. The vehicle is currently disabled at a dealership

While driving at 35mph on a straight section of road the warning sounded, the display said "steering wheel locked" and I could not turn the steering wheel for about 5 seconds, then it returned to normal operation. We bought the car new in July 2025. I found numerous posts on line describing similar or worse experiences. The dealership performed tests and could not determine a cause.

The contact owns a 2026 Genesis GV70. The contact stated that while driving 14 MPH, the brakes independently engaged, causing the contact’s head to hit the driver’s side door/window area, sustaining an injury to the head. The contact lost consciousness for a brief moment. No warning light was illuminated however, the contact mentioned the vehicle engaged Emergency Mode. Neither the dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. There was no medical attention required. The vehicle was not yet taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100.
On XXX while driving at approximately 5mph in a parking lot my Genesis GV70 shifted from Drive to Park by itself causing the car and my wife and I to lurch forward and come to a stop! The car would not come out of Park and a warning came up after the fact saying to contact immediate service. My wife and I were in the car and there were no injuries. If this occurred at a higher rate of speed on a busy highway I cannot imagine what would have happened. I immediately called Genesis Road Assistance for a tow. The car was towed by flat bed to the dealer in [XXX], where I purchased the car, approximately 10 miles away where it sits today waiting for service. My wife and I are afraid to drive this car ever again as it is brand new with only 250 miles on the odometer. *No warnings of any kind prior to the incident.
