This revenue growth occurred despite a marginal reduction in global vehicle sales, which totaled 2,395,000 units—a decrease of 16,000 units year-over-year.
Operating income for the quarter stood at 1.063 trillion yen ($6.6 billion), a decline from the 1.166 trillion yen ($8.0 billion) reported in the prior year. However, income before income taxes reached 1.963 trillion yen ($12.3 billion).
Net income attributable to Toyota Motor Corporation saw a significant increase, rising to 1.477 trillion yen ($9.2 billion) from 0.841 trillion yen ($5.8 billion) in the previous fiscal year's first quarter. Currency conversions for FY27 are based on an average exchange rate of 160 yen to the U.S. dollar, while FY26 figures used 145 yen to the dollar.

Japan experienced a sales increase of 43,000 units, totaling 524,000 units. However, operating income there, excluding swap impacts, decreased by 104.8 billion yen ($655 million) to 538.6 billion yen ($3.37 billion). Europe saw sales rise by 9,000 units to 307,000 units, with operating income increasing by 15.8 billion yen ($98 million) to 113.2 billion yen ($707 million).
In Asia, vehicle sales grew by 18,000 units to 439,000 units, though operating income, excluding swap impacts, declined by 11.2 billion yen ($70 million) to 209.5 billion yen ($1.31 billion). Other regions, including Central and South America, Oceania, Africa, and the Middle East, reported a sales decrease of 85,000 units, totaling 332,000 units. Despite this, operating income in these regions increased by 2.6 billion yen ($16 million) to 101.0 billion yen ($631 million).
Toyota's financial services segment also contributed positively, with operating income increasing by 41.7 billion yen ($260 million) to 229.7 billion yen ($1.44 billion).
Fiscal Year 2027 Outlook
Looking ahead, Toyota projects consolidated vehicle sales for the full fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, to reach 9.70 million units. This forecast assumes an average exchange rate of 160 yen to the U.S. dollar.
The company anticipates consolidated net revenue of 54.0 trillion yen ($337.5 billion) for the entire fiscal year. Operating income is projected to be 3.4 trillion yen ($21.3 billion), with income before income taxes estimated at 4.57 trillion yen ($28.6 billion).
Toyota also forecasts a net income of 3.25 trillion yen ($20.3 billion) for the full fiscal year 2027. These projections provide insight into the company's expected performance and strategic direction for the remainder of the financial period.
