Preferred Method: Remote Software Update (RSU)

Performing a Remote Software Update (RSU) is the preferred method to address the 2024 BMW X5 BCP software error. Owners can check for available RSU offerings via their vehicle app or a BMW dealer can check through the Dealer Cockpit via the S-Gate portal or AWP. The process follows instructions outlined in SI B09 01 25. An example display shows "Remote Software Upgrade RSU installation ready".

If the software version to be installed is S18A-24-11-525 (RSU version 11/2024.25) or higher, the RSU installation can be started in the vehicle. Owners should follow the instructions presented on the Central Information Display (CID). During installation, it is recommended to exit and lock the vehicle, ensuring no device is connected to the on-board diagnosis connector (e.g., ICOM). No further interaction is required once the software has been downloaded. After approximately 30 minutes, the RSU installation should be checked for success, verifying that S18A-24-11-525 or higher has been installed. For models F95, F96, G05, G06, G07, and G09, if the current integration level is S18A-24-07-555 or lower, the vehicle should be programmed using ISTA 4.50.1x or higher, released October 24, 2024. A vehicle test must be carried out, and fault memory deleted if required. It is crucial to "Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10)" during this process. ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
