The primary concern is that these improperly installed plugs could allow water to enter the vehicle, potentially leading to corrosion or a persistent musty odor inside the cabin.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may eventually notice signs of water ingress, such as dampness or visible water stains. The long-term effects could include corrosion of vehicle components in the affected areas. A common indicator of water intrusion is a persistent musty odor within the vehicle's interior.

Repair Procedure Summary

To correct the issue of the 2024 BMW 430i paint body plugs, technicians will perform the following steps:

1. The exhaust system will be lowered sufficiently to gain access to the left-side heat shield. This shield will then be removed.
2. Technicians will inspect two specific areas of the vehicle's body for the correct installation of the paint body plugs. They will check if the plugs are present and properly seated.
3. If the body plugs are found to be present and correctly installed, the vehicle can be reassembled, and the Delivery Stop campaign can be closed.
4. If any body plugs are missing or improperly installed, new body plug(s) will be installed and sealed using a specialized adhesive.
5. Finally, the vehicle will be reassembled, including reinstallation of the heat shield and exhaust system.
