Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Prius Prime, 2023-2026 Prius, and 2025-2026 Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. Water may enter the rear door switch and cause a short circuit, allowing an unlocked rear door to open unexpectedly.
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A software error may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

I purchased my 2023 Prius new which comes with a 5 year 60k mile powertrain warranty. My car, at 42.2k miles, has developed a clicking sound when the steering wheel is fully turned to the left and the vehicle is moving slowly. I brought it to the dealer today Oct 2, 2026 and their technician was able to reproduce my concern. However I came across two problems: 1) Their technician claims it is a "suspension" issue and 2) I was told even if it were CV related it would not be covered under warranty. Toyota is aware of this clicking sound and even has multiple bulletins about this exact same issue on their other vehicle models, all of which are covered under the 5 year 60k mile warranty. For example: T-SB-0106-20: "Some 2015 – 2021 model year Corolla vehicles may exhibit a clicking noise when making turns greater than 90 degrees and accelerating with the steering wheel on full lock, such as when performing a U-turn" Other bulletins include: T-SB-0053-25 and T-SB-0028-26. My research shows that suspension related issues are diagnosed with symptoms such as a single clunk sound when hitting bumps or driving over uneven pavement whereas CV issues are diagnosed with symptoms such as rhythmic clicking as the car accelerated through a turn. And upon reading my manual, I confirmed that CV issues are covered by the 5 year 60k mile warranty.

The 2023 Toyota Prius Prime features fixed, non-adjustable rear suspension geometry. My vehicle arrived from the factory with the Right Rear Camber out of specification (-2.2°, max spec limit is -2.0°). Because the rear camber is non-adjustable and cannot be corrected, it caused rapid, unseen inner tread wear down to the steel cords by 20,000 miles, creating a severe tire blowout risk. Authorized Toyota dealership Ourisman Fairfax Toyota inspected the vehicle under RO #6195543/1 and verified that the camber is out of spec and that there is NO external physical damage to the suspension. Toyota Corporate closed my case and refused to address or reimburse the defect under the 3yr/36k Basic Warranty. I had opened a case with Toyota Brand Engagement Center (case number 260827002489) and they had denied any sort of responsibility.

The vehicle exhibits an unaddressed factory programming defect where the Plug-In Charge Control ECU fails to enter sleep mode while plugged in or resting. This causes continuous, heavy parasitic drain on the 12V auxiliary battery, causing chronic low-voltage state across critical systems. The 12V auxiliary network supplies power to the primary control units, CAN-bus communication modules, and dynamic stability systems. Operating under chronic low-voltage causes system instability, erratic sensor processing, voltage brownouts, and rapid degradation of the 12V battery. In severe traffic or isolated operations, a depleted 12V battery creates a distinct safety hazard, including sudden loss of propulsion control, electrical failure, and stranded conditions. Toyota acknowledged this software logic flaw internally under Technical Service Bulletin T-SB-0054-24. However, because Toyota classifies this defect as a TSB rather than a mandatory safety recall, owners are left vulnerable to unexpected low-voltage electrical failures on public roads and are forced to pay out-of-pocket for an ECU reflash to repair a pre-existing manufacturing defect. This issue requires a mandatory federal safety investigation and zero-cost recall to update all affected control modules.
