2021 Land Rover Discovery 48V mild hybrid (MHEV). Recurring 12V system failures: repeated depleted/dead 12V batteries and no-start events. The 12V battery has failed and been replaced three times during my ownership (two documented at a franchised Land Rover dealer and an independent shop), plus a prior replacement under the previous owner per the vehicle history report. Symptoms: the vehicle will not start without a jump, repeated low-battery and SOS/telematics warnings, blank infotainment display, and full battery depletion after the vehicle sits unused for as little as 3 days, even with a battery maintainer in use. Dealer cloud diagnosis confirmed two contributing faults. First, elevated parasitic/quiescent current draw from control modules not entering proper sleep state, measured at 1.6A versus a normal value near 0.01A. Second, inadequate 12V charging. The dealer replaced the 12V and telematics backup batteries and applied software updates to multiple modules (including TCU and BCM), yet the failures recurred. This VIN has an open safety recall on MHEVs (NHTSA 26V-248, manufacturer D126) describing a DCDC converter internal fault that causes loss of 12V system charging and a "Stop Safely, Electrical Fault Detected" warning, with potential loss of motive power, coasting to a stop, and loss of exterior lighting. The remedy is not yet available. Safety risk: loss of 12V charging and battery depletion can cause stalling, loss of motive power in traffic, no-start and stranding, and loss of lighting, all of which increase crash risk. On one occasion the vehicle barely started after sitting at an airport lot, nearly leaving my family stranded. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by both a franchised dealer and an independent service center. The vehicle and the failed batteries are available for inspection on request. Warning messages first appeared before the current failure and have recurred across multiple battery replacements.

I was driving home from work late at night in December 2025. A Signal came on that said pull to safety or something like that and then I lost power steering and brake control and my entire dash in my vehicle went pitch black. I was in the middle lane on route 290 and I was very lucky not to hit any other vehicles, but it was incredibly scary because I had no control of my vehicle and there were many cars and trucks on the road around me. I coasted off slowly to the side and I had to sit in 15° temperatures for an hour while I waited for AAA to come and tow my vehicle. They towed it to my home and were not able to get it off the ramp so they had to tow it to the dealership because the battery had died. The vehicle for a couple weeks before was slow to start, which I did not realize at the time was a sign that the battery was being drained. It was brought to the dealer and discovered that the DC DC converter and the BECM was the issue. My vehicle is open for inspection if you need it. The converter and BECM have been replaced after fighting with the dealer and with Landrover. Landrover is aware of the situation because they had to work with the dealer on their systems.Unfortunately, I am out almost $1000 because they made me pay for the replacement of the battery ( and the towing ) . Honestly I am having PTSD every time I drive past the area where I almost crashed. Landrover did not even want to accept responsibility, but the dealer did as we have purchased two vehicles from them that we also maintain meticulously.

Supplement / update to prior NHTSA complaints regarding my 2021 Land Rover Discovery MHEV (VIN: [XXX] y prior complaints, Jaguar Land Rover has issued Recall 26V248 for DC/DC converter failure leading to loss of propulsion in 2021–2024 Land Rover Discovery MHEV vehicles. My vehicle experienced the same real-world failure condition: sudden loss of propulsion in traffic with my children in the vehicle. Jaguar Land Rover corporate has stated my VIN is not included in the recall population despite my vehicle being a 2021 Discovery MHEV and experiencing the same defect condition. I am submitting additional documentary evidence from Jaguar Land Rover Portland showing that during the repair process: * I was advised the vehicle would only run while connected to external jumper power and would shut off once that external power was removed. * Two days later, I was advised the installed battery would only charge to 6 volts and that another battery was needed to continue testing. These communications raise concern that this failure event involved broader electrical consequences and further support that my vehicle experienced the same defect condition described in Recall 26V248. The dealership ultimately completed repairs and charged me for the failure, while JLR maintains my VIN is excluded. I am requesting NHTSA review whether my VIN was improperly excluded from the recall population and whether the affected vehicle population should be expanded. The failing component is the same as Land Rover Discovery 2017-2020 recall /N221 service action. Complaint is to extend this service action/ recall to later production models of Land Rover Discovery in the years 2021 and 2022. The same issues are occurring as reported with Land Rover discovery 2017-2020. Due to a faulty sealant mechanism, the windshield is leaking water on the inside of vehicle causing visual impairment whilst driving in rain, snow and wet conditions - an unsafe way to drive. The water is also known to leak into electrical components causing cameras to not work, causing steering issues and causing electrical safety warning systems not to function. Land Rover Discovery (specifically 2017–2020 models) has faced issues with water leaking from the windshield, causing potential electrical damage and cabin moisture, as detailed in a Service Action (N221) and a 2020 class-action lawsuit. While often handled as a technical service bulletin (TSB) rather than a safety recall, dealers are instructed to inspect and, if necessary, replace the windshield.Key Details Regarding the Windshield Issues:Affected Vehicles: Primarily 2017-2018 Discovery 5, though reports have continued for 2020 models.Problem: Improper sealing leads to water leaks, causing moisture in the cabin and potential damage to electrical components.Service Action/Recall: Service Action N221 outlines instructions for dealers to test for leaks and replace the windshield if necessary, under certain circumstances.Action Needed: Owners experiencing this issue should contact their local Land Rover dealership for a check, as it may be covered by the manufacturer's warranty or a goodwill repair. However, service dealers who I have called are requiring me to pay $250 for a diagnostic of their own issue. As well as keep the car for several days just to evaluate.

I purchased my 2024 Land Rover Discovery new in March of 2024. In October of 2025, I found a large amount of water leaking through my windshield. Land Rover had my vehicle from October 2025 until April 2026. When it was returned to me it had mold in that had to be remidate3d and now my screen is starting to short. I am concerned of the safety of this vehicle and the amount of water that went into the electrical system.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding a sudden and complete loss of power event while driving my 2021 Land Rover Discovery. The vehicle experienced a DC-DC converter failure with no warning, resulting in a sudden shutdown. The engine lost power, critical systems went offline, and I was unable to shift the vehicle into neutral. The vehicle became immobilized in active traffic, creating a dangerous situation. This incident occurred without warning and left me with no ability to safely move the vehicle out of traffic or rely on normal emergency functions. This presents a serious safety hazard to both the driver and others on the road. The vehicle has been at the dealership since mid-January 2026. The dealer has stated that the DC-DC failure caused additional component failures. However, no root cause has been identified beyond “internal failure,” and I have not been provided confirmation that the system has been properly tested or that the issue will not recur. I am concerned that this failure can cause cascading electrical issues, including loss of the 12V system, impacting multiple critical vehicle functions at once. The lack of a clear diagnosis and verified repair raises concerns about reliability and safety. Given the sudden loss of power, inability to move the vehicle, and absence of a confirmed root cause or validated repair, I am formally requesting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration open a defect investigation into the MHEV/DC-DC system. This failure creates a significant safety risk, including vehicles becoming immobilized in active traffic without warning. The risk of recurrence without a defined cause is especially concerning and may indicate a broader issue.

Our DC converter caused an electrical malfunction which is apparently such a big problem that our dealership can not get the necessary parts to fix the problem. We are being told we are number 21 in line.

The contact owns a 2022 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked, and several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and turned off. The contact waited before restarting the vehicle; however, after driving for several miles the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the vehicle jerked, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal before the vehicle stalled. The message "Emergency Braking Assistance Not Available" was displayed. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The contact called for assistance and another driver arrived the scene and followed behind the vehicle back to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ground studs were not connected and had failed to function as intended. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The contact stated that before the electrical failure, the message "Check Coolant" was displayed. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V457000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

Car displayed a warning noting of an “an electrical fault” but was still running fine otherwise. Drove straight to service center roughly 5 miles away. About a half a mile away from service center the car experienced a cascading number faults in quick succession. First it was safety systems, then air suspension, followed by transmission and finally steering, which point the car was able to roll and some steering though required significant effort. This occurred during traffic, where luckily i had just gotten off the highway. I was able to coast the car into the middle of a shopping center parking lot where it became immobile. A fortunate timing of intersection traffic lights being green likely helped avoid a collision or hitting a pedestrian as all vehicle systems shut down. Towed vehicle to factory service center. Dealer confirmed a a failed DC-to-DC Converter (48V to 12V in mild hybrid system) led to vehicle shutdown and damaged auxiliary 12V battery. Requires a new DC to DC converter but is on backorder for weeks with no ETA available. Car remains immobile until a new part is received.

The DC-DC converter went out in December. The vehicle has 53,000 miles on it, so it is just out of warranty. I live 100 miles from the nearest dealership so I had it towed to a local shop. I was originally told the part was on back order until Mid-February. I was told yesterday, they think it may not be available until May 2026. If this is such a big issue that they can not keep up with the part, why is this not a recall item?

I was driving on Ware Rd about 50 MPH on my way home. The vehicle turned off while I was driving and had to turn into a street before the vehicle stopped moving. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure. If I had been on a highway, there would not have been a way for me to get out of dangerous traffic. The dealer checked the vehicle and determined that it had suffered a catatrophic engine failure. They had no explanation on the cause of the problem. My vehicle had just run out of warranty with only 60,000 miles on it.
