On November 27, 2025, my 2019 Honda Odyssey experienced a sudden and catastrophic engine failure while traveling at highway speed. The vehicle had been serviced at an authorized Honda dealership the previous day (oil change and tire rotation), and the failure occurred approximately 55 miles after that service. While driving on the interstate, the engine abruptly lost power, expelled a large quantity of engine oil onto the roadway, and then caught fire in the engine compartment. The driver managed to pull over safely and extinguish the fire. This was a significant safety hazard to the driver, passengers, and surrounding motorists. The dealership later reported that the engine suffered internal mechanical failure involving broken connecting rods, which caused extensive engine damage and oil loss. I reviewed public information and discovered that certain Honda 3.5L V6 engines from similar model years have been recalled for internal engine defects that may lead to connecting-rod issues or catastrophic engine failure. However, my vehicle’s VIN is not currently included in those recalls, despite experiencing a similar failure pattern. This incident involved: Sudden loss of engine power at highway speed Immediate oil loss onto the roadway Engine compartment fire Risk of collision or injury Given the severity of the incident and the similarities to known recalls for related engine failures, I am submitting this report to request that NHTSA review this event as part of potential broader safety concerns involving this engine family. The underlying cause should be evaluated to determine whether a defect or pattern exists that could affect additional vehicles not currently included in recall campaigns. No injuries occurred, but the incident posed a serious risk to life and traffic safety.

The glass sunroof exploded on our 2022 Honda Odyssey. No prior issues, dents, etc., serviced consistently by the local dealership. While driving on the highway an explosion sound occurred overhead. No overpasses were nearby, nor were any projectiles witnessed. Thankfully, the interior sunroof shade was completely closed, preventing the thousands of pieces of broken glass from falling into the vehicle. Thankfully, we were also able to avoid an accident in the moment. Talked to local dealership and Honda Americas. Both simply said I was out of warranty, even though this is a massive safety failure. A simple google search will show this is a known issue across Honda Odyssey sunroofs, Honda CRV back windshields and Honda HRV back windshields. All of these cars should be recalled.

Driver side sliding door will not open in freezing/cold temperatures. It tries to open, sometimes halfway and then closes. It also fails to latch sometimes when reclosing. This happened January 2025 and again December 2025. Dealer wants us to replace motor/cables and rear latch. Rear latch has been recalled on 2019 odysseys but they say our VIN is not included. This door has been problematic since purchasing vehicle.

The front right sensor goes off randomly. Sometimes all day long for days, then nothing for a week or 2 then back to it. Various lengths of time, usually stressfully long times, with nothing aroundcausing stress and making fucus hard. It started a few months after getting the van. We cleaned it, had the dealer inspect it and no one has ever figured out why we have to live with this blaring warning alarm. The dash says object warning with it and if i close that out nothing stops the alarm but putting it in park which I can't do on the interstate or in pickup line at school

Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2015 Honda Odyssey. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after the purchase. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 7,274. The contact took the vehicle to a Honda dealer to have the vehicle inspected, and it was later discovered that the mileage on the Title was over 200,000. The dealer checked the maintenance history on the vehicle and found that the vehicle was last serviced in 2024, and the odometer was approximately 198,000.

Dash has warning light showing "Power Tailgate Problem", and power tailgate will not function. The next day there was heavy rain, and the dash had a flickering warning showing the tailgate was open. This also caused the interior lights to flicker on and off as the tailgate open warning was flickering on and off. I returned the van to my home for fear that the tailgate would open automatically while driving down the road. I had the tailgate control module replaced on February 27, 2025 for this same issue, which was due to a tailgate seal leaking water onto the tailgate control module that shorted the module. This is now the second time within less than one year this same module has shorted out. This is a known issue with a class action lawsuit already filed against Honda that should result in a recall. The potential danger of the tailgate opening while driving makes this minivan not usable to transport my kids for fear of their safety.

- #11703313December 5, 2025ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH at nighttime, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact pulled into a parking lot and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle started shuddering while driving at 25 MPH. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a nearby independent mechanic and caught another ride to her destination. The contact returned to the vehicle the following morning and drove the vehicle to the mechanic's parking lot. The independent mechanic retrieved DTC: P0303. The contact was informed of an engine cylinder misfire and that the failure was related to an unknown Extended Warranty Coverage. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The dealer contacted the manufacturer and advised that the VIN was not included in the Extended Warranty Coverage. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

The engine was the component that failed. While accelerating, I first noticed a slight knocking sound. At steady speeds the noise went away, but during the same drive it became progressively more frequent until it occurred under all driving conditions. When stopped at a light to make a left turn, the vehicle shut off immediately as soon as I released the brakes. There were no warning lights, diagnostic messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. Because the vehicle lost all power in the middle of a multi-lane intersection, my family and I were stranded in the roadway for approximately 1.5 hours until a tow truck arrived. The vehicle could not be moved out of traffic. After towing, a retired mechanic who operates his own shop inspected the vehicle. He performed a brief, approximately 15-minute preliminary evaluation and reported that the engine is seized. Based on his initial observation (without engine teardown), he believes the cause may be a failed crankshaft bearing, but this has not been confirmed. No dealer or manufacturer inspection has been performed. Insurance declined involvement because mechanical failure is not covered. No police report was filed.

. When auto start/stop engages at stoplights and fails to restart radomaly but not always, the vehicle remains stationary and blocks traffic lanes when battery light turns on. This creates hazardous conditions where other vehicles must maneuver around a stalled vehicle in intersections, risking rear-end collisions and traffic disruptions. Dealer was not able to replicate Issue as this, i expeted this becouse happens randon times maybe based on weater or after driving for longer peroids . Dealership's only recommendation was to manually disable auto start/stop every time the vehicle is operated. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle and defeats the purpose of this safety

2019 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ) - Fuel injector failure at 51,000 miles, November 2025. Cost: $1,260. KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT: Honda Service Bulletins 20-100, 21-002, 22-002 acknowledge widespread fuel injector failures in 2018-2019 Odysseys caused by debris from manufacturing process. Honda extended warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for certain VINs. My VIN excluded despite identical failure. EVIDENCE: (1) Same symptoms/codes as covered vehicles (2) Fuel pump replaced under recall same visit - proves manufacturing defects (3) Proper maintenance with receipts (4) Dealer admitted injectors shouldn't fail at this mileage (5) Hundreds of similar complaints online HONDA DENIED COVERAGE: American Honda denied goodwill because I don't have dealership service records. This makes no sense - manufacturing debris in injectors isn't caused by where you get oil changes. SAFETY ISSUE: Sudden power loss, multiple warning lights, stalling risk while driving. REQUEST: Investigate why Honda excludes certain VINs from warranty coverage for acknowledged manufacturing defect. Require expansion of coverage and reimbursement program. Pattern of defects (fuel pump recall + injector failure at 51k miles) indicates quality control problems. Thousands of owners affected. The power tailgate on my 2021 Honda Odyssey suddenly failed. A “power tailgate problem” warning appeared, and the tailgate became completely inoperable. It would not latch manually or automatically, even when applying force. The latch would spring back open, and no mechanical sound came from the door. Because the tailgate would not latch, the interior lights stayed on, and the vehicle continued to display “tailgate open” warnings. I could not secure the tailgate for driving, which created a safety hazard since the door could not be properly closed during travel. A few days later, both sliding doors also stopped functioning, and none of the powered doors (tailgate or sliding doors) would operate from the interior switches, exterior buttons, or key fob. The Honda service center inspected the vehicle and reported that the tailgate control module was corroded and had clear evidence of water damage. They stated that they would not replace the module until the vehicle was evaluated by a body shop because a water leak was likely present and would continue damaging components. The body shop later confirmed that water intrusion was entering through the upper left rear pillar, caused by a leak in the roof seam area. Water traveled into the rear side panel and damaged the tailgate control module and related electrical systems. Their findings were documented and also confirmed by my insurance inspector. Prior to the failure, there were no symptoms. The only warning occurred at the moment the system failed (“power tailgate problem”). The issue occurred without any impact, accident, or misuse. The defects caused multiple powered doors to become inoperable, which is a significant safety risk for both passengers and the driver. Based on publicly available information, this appears to be a recurring problem in 2018–2021 Honda Odyssey vehicles involving water leaks near the rear pillar leading to electrical control module failures.

Every time I accelerate while I am turning, the car stalls for a second or two. And often when I attempt to accelerate in general, such as when I first turn on the engine to begin driving, the car stalls. I took it to Honda twice, and was told "it's a known issue with these models"

Vehicle bought certified pre owned in April 2024 with Honda 182-Point checklist completed. In November 2025 owner experienced the second row driver side sear shifting forward and back approximately an inch easily while seemingly locked into place. Took vehicle to local Honda dealership for diagnosis. They said the LEFT MIDDLE SEAT FRAME has failed and the estimate for replacement is $2350.93. Could not get a definite straight answer as to the safety of this seat for our children.

On 11/28/2025, I turned into the Walmart parking lot in Kemah TX, came to the stop sign, turned right and the passenger side airbags deployed. The passenger side curtain wall and passenger seat air bag deployed. There was no warning, no impact, no wreck just a loud explosion sound. My daughter was sitting on the passenger side, had a loud ringing in her ear form the noise. I was unable to properly see to drive home.

Driving on the interstate with cruise control. All of a sudden the car braked (no one in front within eye shot) and cruise control stopped. I had to tap the brake manually then accelerator to get the car back under my control. Ever since then I get ACC, LKAS and other warnings when the car starts up. It seems like the front camera catastrophically failed while driving and almost caused the car to come to a complete stop on the interstate. It was very scary.
