I took my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 to the dealership after Cylinder #5 seized while driving, and I was forced to replace the entire engine. At the time, I contacted the dealer and was told there was no recall related to this issue. However, I have since learned that GMC has issued a recall for similar engine problems affecting 2021–present Sierra 1500 models, but not for my 2020 model year. I believe this issue may be related and would like further investigation and consideration.

I was driving my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 on a local street when the dashboard suddenly displayed a “Brake Failure” warning. I immediately realized I had no braking power and had to safely roll into an uphill parking space to stop the vehicle. While waiting for the tow truck, I researched the issue and discovered there is a known recall related to the brake calipers on some 2020 Sierra 1500 models. However, when I entered my VIN, it showed no open recalls. I also contacted GMC directly, and they confirmed that there are no active recalls associated with my vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle's onboard information system indicated that the front brakes were at 65% and the rear brakes at 80%, suggesting that brake wear was not a contributing factor.

My engine slowed down on the interstate. My steering wheel was visibly shaking and I lost the steering access control. The truck threw an Cylinder 6 error code. At the mechanic, they identified that at least one of my camshaft lifters had failed. If I had continued to drive my vehicle, the engine block would have eventually locked up.

While driving vehicle I received a message on the dashboard, "Reduced acceleration, drive with caution" and then the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to local Autozone to get code read and was told "P1028" was the error code. Schedule an appointment with local GMC dealership for diagnosis. After three days dealership told me that the technician has diagnosed my truck with faulty "Engine Coolant Control Valve". I was told the part is backordered with no ETA. Asked for a loaner vehicle while truck is waiting repair and was told there was nothing available. When asked about what I should do transportation, dealership told me I could come pick up the truck and drive it until part arrived but I would need to watch for further engine issues as the engine could overheat. How do you tell a customer to just continue driving a vehicle with a known issue. Additional fear is what if additional harm is caused and because I drove the vehicle with a known issue they won't cover the cost of repair? This all seems fishy and unfair as a consumer.

My Truck has been consuming oil since new, latest documented consumption test was 1.25 quarts in 1967 miles. GM dealership said that is normal and no further diagnosis is required. GM says acceptable consumption is 1 quart per 2,000 miles. This truck has a 6.2L engine that is not under the current recall ( N252494000 ). The engine problems affect more vehicles that the current recall and should be investigated.

The incident occurred during a journey from Sacramento, CA, to Winchester, CA, a distance of approximately 486 miles in my 2022 GMC Sierra AT4, equipped with the recalled 6.2L V8 engine, which has accumulated around 61,000 miles. I was driving when a loud bang caught my attention over the music. After that, I heard swooshing sounds three times before the engine lost power. I was able to move over to the right shoulder throughout heavy traffic; I managed to make it safely. During the maneuvering of my truck to the shoulder, I noticed on the dashboard that the vehicle was telling me to shift the vehicle to neutral and start it. I shifted the vehicle to neutral, but it did not start. Upon inspecting the fuses and battery for any obvious issues, I proceeded to check the harmonic balancer for signs of engine seizing. The engine had completely locked up.

Subject: Urgent Safety Complaint Dear GMC Customer Service, I hope this message nds you well. I am formally reporting a serious safety issue with my GMC vehicle. The car has experienced multiple dangerous incidents due to likely electrical or software faults, losing power suddenly on two occasions while driving. This is especially concerning given the low mileage of 20,000 km and that the vehicle is still under warranty. Vehicle Information: • Model: GMC Sierra SLE, 2024 • VIN: [XXX] • Current Mileage: 20,000 km Description of the Problem & History: 1. First Incident (At 3,000 km): o The vehicle completely shut down due to an electrical or system software issue while driving. o The vehicle was towed to the dealer and held for over two weeks for repairs. 2. Second Incident (Recently): o The vehicle again lost functionality; the gear was stuck in 1st gear, and I was unable to manually shift. o This occurred while driving, creating another unsafe situation. o The vehicle was again taken to the dealer for repair, and to date, I have not been informed of the root cause. Actions Taken: The vehicle was brought to Sarhan, UAE (Sharjah), Al Ghandi Auto after the rst incident. Despite inspections and repair attempts, the issue has recurred, indicating it was not resolved. And I am prepared to provide photographic or video evidence if necessary. Additional Context: • The vehicle is less than one year old and has been regularly serviced on time at authorized centers. The recurring issues strongly indicate an underlying reliability or manufacturing defect. Due to the severity and recurrence of these failures, I refuse any further repair attempts. I formally request either a full refund or a replacement vehicle, as this is unacceptable for a new car. Please acknowledge receipt of this complaint promptly and advise on the next steps for a swift resolution. Sincerely, [XXX] Phone: [XXX] Email: [XXX] Location: Sharjah, UAE INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint and request immediate resolution regarding my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 equipped with the L87 6.2L V8 engine, which has been out of service for more than 30 consecutive days due to a recall-related defect. The vehicle is inoperable, and I have been informed by the authorized dealership that no loaner vehicle will be provided, with no clear estimate for when parts or repairs will be available. I have contacted both General Motors Customer Assistance and the local dealership to request a loaner vehicle. In both cases, I was informed that no loaner was available. I was advised that I could rent a vehicle at my own expense, and that GM would only consider reimbursement up to $44 per day, but only after the recall is completed and only if my case is deemed eligible upon review. This reimbursement policy—requiring me to first pay out-of-pocket without guarantee of repayment—has placed significant undue hardship, financial burden, and emotional stress on me and my family. This situation is especially frustrating considering the vehicle: Remains under GM’s lifetime powertrain warranty; Has been completely unusable for 59 days without replacement; Has left me with no reliable means of transportation, and Involves a known defect acknowledged by GM, yet with no definitive timeline for resolution. As a result, I am suffering direct and ongoing consequences, including: Out-of-pocket transportation costs; Disruption to daily life and mounting stress that no consumer should face after purchasing a premium, modern vehicle from a manufacturer of GM’s reputation. Accordingly, I am requesting the following: Provision of a comparable loaner vehicle immediately, or full reimbursement for a rental vehicle retroactive to the date the truck became inoperable; Compensation for loss of transportation and impact on life. If GM cannot resolve the defect in a timely manner, a full repurchase or replacement of the vehicle under federal warranty law.

- #11665900June 9, 2025POWER TRAIN, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
I am the original owner of a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 6.2L L86 engine and 8-speed 8L90 transmission. I began experiencing severe transmission shuddering and harsh shifting, especially at lower speeds or under light acceleration. When the issue occurs, I press the gas and the engine revs up to 6,000 RPM without reaching 20 MPH, making it extremely difficult — and dangerous — to merge into traffic or cross intersections. This issue has worsened over time and is now a critical safety concern, especially with children in the vehicle. I have researched this issue and found that many owners report the same transmission defect, and there is an open class action lawsuit and a GM Technical Service Bulletin (TSB #18-NA-355) describing the exact symptoms. The vehicle has become unsafe to drive. GMC should issue a recall or mandatory repair program for this known defect before someone is injured or killed.

Vehicle currently has 104K and needs a 3rd engine. The same issue happened to the second engine as the first. While Driving the engine just stop working. They say it is a problem with the camshaft. Metal gets into the transmission and that also has to be replaced. A vehicle engine should not just stop working! Especially on an interstate. GMC refuses to add this engine to the recall list. However, I don't understand how the safety of families can continue to be placed in jeopardy.
