THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE TO INSPECT AND VERIFY THE INSTALLATION OF THE SPARK PLUG WIRES ON CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A GEN V GAS 5.3/6.2L V-8 OR 4.3L V-6 ENGINE (RPO L83/L86/LT1/LV3). THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE LOOSE SPARK PLUG WIRES THAT ARE NOT SECURED AT THE SPARK PLUG OR COIL ATTACHMENT. LOOSE SPARK PLUG WIRES CAN CAUSE A MISFIRE CONDITION RESULTING IN P0300 DTC BEING SET WITH MIL (“SERVICE ENGINE SOON” LIGHT). CONTINUED OPERATION WITH THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER."

  14461 - CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE MAY HAVE A MAIN ENGINE WIRING HARNESS THAT IS NOT PROPERLY FASTENED AND MAY COME INTO CONTACT WITH A SHARP GASKET TAB USED FOR CONTROLLING EMISSIONS (EGR GASKET VERIFICATION TAB). THE SHARP GASKET TAB CAN CUT INTO THE WIRING HARNESS AND EVEN SEVER WIRES IN THE HARNESS. DEPENDING ON WHICH WIRE IS AFFECTED, YOU MAY RECEIVE A “REDUCED POWER MODE” INDICATOR LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, OR YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO START YOUR VEHICLE. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO START YOUR VEHICLE, IT MAY NOT RESTART AND WILL NEED TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER. DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT AND/OR REPAIR THE MAIN ENGINE HARNESS FOR CONTACT WITH THE EGR GASKET VERIFICATION TAB. THE EGR VERIFICATION TAB WILL THEN BE MODIFIED TO PREVENT FURTHER CONTACT.

Technician will need to use J?38792-A Electronic Vibration Analyzer 2 or CH?51450-NVH Pico Oscilloscope Diagnostic Kit to measure the frequency of the vibration. Technician will need to remove and replace the exhaust muffler clamp that joins the three-way catalytic converter assembly to the pipe of the muffler assembly.
