SummarySome 2011-2021 Mustang and F-150 vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine may exhibit a ticking noise at idle after an engine oil change. It is often referred to as typewriter noise because of its similarity to the sound of a mechanical typewriter. The noise in question may be heard on some engines when engine temperatures reach 150F (65àâÂÂC) or higher and engine speed is at idle up to approximately 1700 RPMs. It can typically be heard at the front wheel well and is often isolated to the transmission bell housing or oil pan area. The typewriter noise is not detrimental to the engine function or durability and has no short or long term effects on the engine. This an operating characteristic of the 5.0L engine and no repairs should be attempted.

Some of the affected vehicles may have software logic errors affecting the heated mirror and the ITRM. The heated mirror may not output heat at temperatures below zero degrees Celsius. Also, a battery drain may occur under a certain sequence of events due to a logic error in the ITRM. Under certain specific sequence, the ITRM battery drain may result in the inability to start the vehicle .A customer could experience a battery drain within 14 hours under the following conditions: the trailer is connected, vehicle is unlocked, parked, and the engine is off.

Once PCM functionality has been restored, change the engine oil and filter and reset the engine oil change reminder. For claiming, use causal part 12A650 and M-time.

Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and advise to connect to their FordPass account and enable the vehicle to accept the OTA. Schedule a follow-up appointment for July 2021, and contact the customer to understand if OTA was received, and confirm if the service appointment is going forward. Monitor OASIS for updates.

First, an FDRS session must be created on the vehicle prior to removing the faulted module. Once the session is started, run the Programmable Module Installation and replace the module only when instructed by FDRS. Installing a new module prior to starting a scan tool session may result in incomplete module configuration with DTCs U2100, U2101 and/or U2200. Once a session has been started, continue to follow normal WSM procedures to repair the vehicle.
