I was driving down the road and all of a sudden the check engine light came on, the check the parking brake light came on, and the service electronic stability control system light came on. The engine then started making a knocking sound. These trucks have a known lifter issue. I had a 2021 that had the same problem. It was still under warranty so I was able to get out from under it. This one isn’t and they want $9,000 to replace the engine. There is a recall on the 6.2 liter but not for the 5.3 liter for some reason. These engines have an issue

I own a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD equipped with the 6.6L Duramax diesel engine and Allison-branded 10 speed (10L1000) automatic transmission. VIN: [XXX]. While pulling away from a traffic light and accelerating to approximately 20 to 30 mph, the transmission suddenly began shifting harshly and erratically, experienced delayed engagement, unexpectedly downshifted, and would not shift into overdrive. At the same time, the check engine light illuminated and a Reduced Engine Power warning appeared. There were no warning lights, messages, or transmission symptoms prior to this incident. I pulled into a parking lot for approximately one hour, but when I resumed driving, the same failure occurred again. The transmission malfunction created a safety concern because the vehicle unexpectedly lost normal shifting and power while operating in traffic, making it difficult to accelerate and maintain speed safely. I contacted OnStar, which reported both an engine and transmission fault. I then drove the vehicle to my independent diesel mechanic, who diagnosed a failure of the transmission control valve body caused by an internal solenoid that is not serviceable separately, requiring replacement of the complete transmission control valve body assembly. The repair has been completed, so the original failed component is no longer available for inspection. The failure was confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by Chevrolet, law enforcement, or an insurance representative. I contacted General Motors to determine whether my VIN was included in the existing transmission control valve recall and was advised that it is not. I am submitting this complaint because my truck experienced the same symptoms and the same component failure as vehicles covered by the recall, despite my VIN not being included. The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH and towing a trailer on Route 16 with his children inside the vehicle, within 10 minutes of driving, there was smoke coming from underneath the vehicle and entering the cabin. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver pulled over safely. Additionally, the contact stated that there was no issue prior to the failure. First responders arrived on the scene but were unable to use fire extinguishers to contain the fire. The contact called 9-1-1. Within approximately 10 minutes, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, which reached an estimated height of 10 feet. A Police report and a Fire Department report were filed. The driver and his two children sustained smoke inhalation. The contact's daughter was vomiting; however, medical attention was not provided. The contact stated that a nearby vehicle and the trailer were damaged from the fire. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.

When driving, the vehicle’s computer detects an issue with the vehicle’s transmission and throws a “Reduced acceleration. Drive with care” which causes a strong jerk like if the wheel locked up momentarily. The check engine also turns on and the vehicle stays stuck in 5th gear at all times. Code P0747 is thrown as well.

VEHICLE: 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, VIN [XXX] DEFECT: Transmission suddenly, violently downshifts from a high gear to a much lower gear with no driver input, at highway speed. Causes RPM spike, violent jerking, Check Engine Light, loss of vehicle control. Occurred 5 times. Not fixed despite 4 dealer repairs, 61 days out of service. 5/12/26 - 1st failure, 70+ mph on I-5, stuck in low gear. 5/14-6/8/26 - Repair 1, Bud Clary Chevrolet: valve body solenoid replaced. 6/13/26 - 2nd failure days later, Hwy 12 (no cell service), spouse + [XXX] infant in vehicle, forced to keep driving to reach safety. 6/13-6/17/26 - Repair 2, Harvest Chevrolet: same fault codes; valve body connector found loose. 6/17/26 - 3rd failure, same day picked up, same [XXX] location. 6/19-6/26/26 - Repair 3, [XXX] Chevrolet Diagnosed by TSB#25-NA-301: wiring found chafed/pinched. Dealer's own paperwork says cause of fault codes could not be determined. I requested full internal transmission inspection; declined. 6/26/26 - 4th failure, same day picked up, ~100 mi later, [XXX] [XXX], family in vehicle. Dealer denied promised tow after 4-hr wait; transport arranged. 7/1-7/17/26 - Repair 4, [XXX]: GM's national Technical Assistance Center directed wiring circuit replacement (GMTAC Case #XXX). Again requested internal inspection; again declined. Service tech said GM engineering was dictating repairs and I'd "just need to drive it until it fails again." 7/20/26 - 5TH FAILURE: XXX near mile marker 24 (Kalama/Woodland, WA), ~75 mph, [XXX] in vehicle. Uncommanded downshift nearly forced my truck into an adjacent semi-truck. Same day picked up from Repair 4. SUMMARY: Code P0776 present at every repair; P0716/P0717 recur. 4 fixes attempted, none resolved it. Internal inspection requested twice, denied twice. Near-collisions XXX and XXX. Infant in vehicle for 2 incidents. 2nd owner; active GM powertrain warranty through XXX. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The vehicle experiences a sudden, violent drop into "limp mode" during active traffic acceleration. The internal Output Shaft Speed Sensor completely drops its signal, causing the vehicle to rapidly lose speed in active traffic lanes, creating an immediate and severe rear-end collision hazard.Diagnostic Evidence:Dealership (Crews Chevrolet) officially scanned the vehicle and documented history codes DTC P0722 (Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal) and DTC P0700. The dealership technician verified that the external wiring harness is fully intact, isolating the failure strictly to the internal transmission sensor.Manufacturer Actions:General Motors Corporate (Case thread::oxEmaLlrKKms4NDj0d9wJ0w::) is actively refusing to authorize the dealership to drop the transmission pan to replace this failing component under the active Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty. They are citing the "intermittent" nature of the safety hazard as a reason to deny diagnostics, forcing me to either operate an unsafe vehicle or leave it parked.

The internal transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) and its associated internal circuit/lead frame assembly failed. The vehicle is fully intact, operational, and available for inspection upon request. When the Output Shaft Speed Sensor intermittently loses its signal (dropping to 0 RPM while the vehicle is stopped at red lights or in traffic), it forces the vehicle into an immediate electronic "limp mode." Upon pressing the gas pedal to accelerate, the transmission violently slams into gear with massive mechanical force. This sudden, unpredictable jerking and hesitation while accelerating into active traffic creates an immediate risk of being rear-ended, losing traction, or losing control of the heavy vehicle in an intersection. The problem was officially confirmed via a diagnostic computer scan by an authorized GM dealership (Crews Chevrolet), which pulled and documented history codes P0722 (Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal) and P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction Warning). However, the dealership declined physical teardown or sensor replacement because the electronic failure is intermittent and could not be replicated during a brief technician test drive. Yes. The vehicle's external wiring harness was physically inspected by an authorized General Motors dealership technician, who confirmed the external wiring passed inspection. This officially isolates the intermittent electrical drop to an internal transmission component failure. It has not been inspected by police or insurance. Yes. The symptoms appeared suddenly without prior warning. The transmission began shifting erratically and violently, immediately followed by the illumination of the dashboard Check Engine Light (Malfunction Indicator Lamp). The onboard computer triggered diagnostic trouble codes P0722 and P0700.

While traveling at night on the highway at excess of 70mph the engine in my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 6.2L L87 experienced a sudden, complete mechanical failure and loss of propulsion while driving. There were no warning lights, sounds or any other indication the motor would instantly stop working. This created an immediate crash hazard for me, my children and my dog. The vehicle is completely inoperable and I paid $125 to have it towed home. Upon talking to the dealership service ce manager they are refusing to inspect/replace my engine under Safety Recall N252494001. The same dealer is also requiring a large diagnostic fee prior to looking at the vehicle and has stated they will require additional fees as needed. They also refused to provide a loaner vehicle.

An internal transmission Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) failure causes the vehicle to enter "limp mode" and shift violently, creating a risk of rear-end collisions or loss of control, according to the report. A GM dealer confirmed diagnostic codes P0722 and P0700, isolating the issue to an internal component after an inspection of the external wiring harness.

When shutting the vehicle off, I repeatedly get a “shift to park” error message. The truck will not shut down fully until this message goes away and can drain the battery. I have read this is a common Chevy problem in other models and others who I have talked to have the same issue. The local dealer wanted $170 just to scan it even though I feel they know the issue. The problem started right after the warrant expired and GM sent through a “software push notification” with no explanation what it was for. This feels too coincidental for me and GMs response was to take it to the dealer, not covered by warranty.

We purchased our 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 in XXX, it was discovered in the purchase process that the vehicle had an active recall on the engine which was pending a "fix." This was completely downplayed by the dealership as a minor issue that would be addressed. We waited several weeks for the "fix," which was essentially a change in the oil viscosity. On XXX, our [XXX] son, was out of town, driving the vehicle, which suddenly lost all power on the highway leaving him completely stranded. The vehicle would not turn over at all or even shift into neutral. There were no warning signs, no sensors activated, in fact, the Chevy App showed (and still shows) the vehicle as "everything looks good" "no diagnostic issues!" We had the vehicle towed back to our hometown/dealership (Missoula, Chevrolet in Missoula, MT), where it has now been determined, the engine completely seized up/failed, the original "fix" was not adequate, and we are now waiting for a new engine to be put into the vehicle! After reading about other vehicle owners experiences, I am quite skeptical of the new engine as there have been multiple experiences where the new engines had the same issue. This recall is impacting the safety of drivers, most concerning was our [XXX] left stranded in a rural area with very spotty cell service, and the vehicle would not even shift to neutral to get it to a safer area, this needs to be addresses as soon as possible to prevent others from being put into this situation. Truck stutters and idles terrible. Vehicle warning light keeps saying, reduce acceleration and drive safely. Two years ago an injector went bad, and it was fixed. 6 months ago, we had it in the shop, of course still under the 60k mile warranty. Said it was fixed, it wasn’t. Just had it back there, and they replaced the the torque converter. Shaking stopped for a month. Now it is even worse. Believe it is faulty injectors. Sadly, we’re not passed the 60k warranty period and feel unsafe driving our truck which we need every single day. Truck is nearly paid off and feel like we got jipped as this truck continues to have problems after problems

Truck continues to shutter after having the torque converter replaced and the 2nd injector replaced. Been in the shop several times over the last few years, and still giving warnings on the dash saying, reduce acceleration drive safely. Feel like we just got a terrible vehicle. Almost paid off, and it’s just unreliable. Sadly we need this truck every single day, and the local dealerships have now pushed the problem out so far that we’re passed out 60k warranty period.
